- Rough riders, both rules and models.

- Sargents able to take lasguns for free.

- Some way of destroying the loyal 32 (a.k.a. soup) without hurting the gaurd, I like the platoon idea but that could be over the top.

Tier 1: Easy to do

Lasguns for sergeants for obvious reasons.

 

Tier 2: Doable now

Specialist Detachments for penal legion, sentinel recon force, and Inquisitor-requisitioned force.

 

Tier 3: Long term development

a. Complete overhaul of Astra Militarum infantry design cues. Universal to all regiments: flak armor and lasguns, put the torso, arms, guns, grenades, canteens, etc on a single sprue. Second sprue has legs, shoulder pads, heads, and other aspects unique to regiment. Standard/Cadian, Jungle/Catachan, Trench/Steel Legion as the ones released. Valhallans should be easily convertable by just GSing hats on the Trench models. Vostroyans should be easily kitbashed from Jungle and AdMech.

b. Post-Specialist Detachment introduction codex with all the rule design concepts now available. There are a lot of interesting options that open up looking at balancing between points, command points, and special rules. Conscripts without regiment, but a slew of pre-battle stratagems from which they can pick that could either make the from a forge world (FnP) or a shrine world (Ld buff), etc. A stratagem which gives regiment to scions or conscripts. One could effectively create a flexible "build-your-own company" within a regiment using such things. Variable CP cost for options (1 for X, 2 for Y) is something we've seen now and that would allow more fine-tuning for balance towards specific units. The Specialist Detachments and are a good rules reason to take non-CP heavy detachments to get the most out of them married to a core CP detachment and I'd love to see more of this to strengthen monodex builds. For example, spend some CP to upgrade the Super-heavy Detachment and now the 'blade can overwatch for infantry units within 6" and make heroic interventions.

Generic General, 2cmmds plus an aura re-roll buff on 1s and 6s gen another shot

K9 units sound fun

Rough Riders with Horse, Lizard and Motorcycle options 

update Catachan, include options for Penal legion

add Valhallan / Vostroyon plastic options 

new Scion Elite unit - akin to Acolytes with Rockgrinders, strong assault/melee weapons

new Scion Elite Vehicle - 5 man  Fast Hover tank with a strong assault weapons?

Conscripts 3pts cheaper with No regimental doctrines sounds fair

Beastmen!! with both chaos and imperial options

Tank Cmmd with 3 orders 

Vanquisher Turret stronger 3d3w

My wish would be a single rules source and fix errant point values. Do away with forge world and fold those models into a real comprehensive living codex printed FREE online. Sell me models and fluff and paint guides but I am way past worn out of buying rules that go stale in a week and require a back breaking pile various books to reference. A boy can dream right?

My wishlist:

 

- I'd like a way for tracked vehicles to run over infantry. It's just silly how 4 Gretchin can lock down a 60 ton tank. Maybe a strategem for 1-2 CP: VEHICLEs over 10 wounds only, move maximum movement in one direction, can move over INFANTRY and SWARM units, cause D3 mortal wounds to those units, cannot shoot or charge this turn.

- I'd love infantry based fast attack unit, maybe with Grav-Packs and short ranged weapons.

- An elite unit with carapace armor and ballistic shields armed with shotguns.

- A command vehicle: No guns worth mentioning, but the ability to give orders to all vehicles including artillery. Character with 8 wounds.

- New plastic infantry with a completely new look. Not just remade existing regiments, but something that really captures the spirit of what it means to be human in the 42nd millennium. 

- Rebalance for all super-heavy tanks: Less Firepower - more durability (such as T9, 2+ armor, W30). Make it really hard to kill them, but not overly punishing if they get to shoot for a couple of turns. Also make all of them usable and fit a certain role.

- Fix Wyrdvane Psykers.

- Make Vox-Casters useful or free. Useful could mean orders work only on a roll of 3+, with Vox-Caster they always work.

- Remove Command Squads and make medics, regimental standard bearers into characters.

- Add a higher ranking officer than Company Commander

- Rebalance Psykers: Primaris gets to cast/deny two powers for ~70 points, Astropath one power and smite on 2 dice for 36 (without staff).

Lasgun option for Sergeants - they can take Boltguns, Bolt Pistols, Plasma Pistols and a host of powered melee weapons - let them take Lasguns! :wallbash:

 

I'd love to see a return of Rough Riders to the 'dex. The sheer amount of conversions and love for these guys across the 'net is amazing. Bring 'em back GW!

 

Of course, no IG feedback response would be complete without a call for a new plastic mini line. :biggrin.:

Codex

Make sniper rifle a threat not only for the Guard characters, give it S 6, AP -1 and may be BS+1, and make it cost 2-3 more points 

Make Exterminator cannon Heavy 8 
Make Vanquisher cannon at least Heavy D3 with 2D3 damage
Give back the second Hellstrike missile to Valkyrie, or make it Heavy 2

Make Deathstrike collaterial damage radius 12" with D6 mortal wounds if unit has 10+ models
Remove stupid 36" limit from the Master of Ballisctics ability.

Undo Commissars nerf and points reduction

Include Manticore into Aerial Spotter stratagem.

 

Imperial Armour

As i mentioned before Bring Vendettas back to the Codex

Give back the second Hunter-killer missile to Tauros Venator

Nice and easy, reinforcing what other have said.

 

  • Lasguns for Sgt's
  • Rough Riders (An HQ would be a nice to have). They can even pick a box like the new cult bikes and write the rules assuming they're bring used as the model (so a heavy weapon on the 4 wheeler). Just let me use my Stags without carting round the Index!
  • Some special characters for all Regiments so there's another reason not to just take Cadians and Catachans.
  • Fix the Vanquisher

That'll do! Just don't make us any more powerful please.

Whilst I love the idea of adding new units in, I doubt that is going to happen. IG already have a pretty good model line. I think it would be good if GW gave us Upgrade Kits for each regiment or at least head swaps. But remember, they have to compete with plenty of 3rd party guard bits sellers these days such as anvil industries. Unless the bits they sell are cheap, it wont be a good move for them.

 

Being honest, I think IG are in a good spot right now, not too powerful, not too weak. As others have pointed out, we need some internal balance changes. This is what I would wish to see change in a version 2 codex:

 

1) Conscripts - they are almost useless now and not even fluff players take them. I would be happy to lose the regiment trait in return for going down to 3pts.

2) Commissars - the old execution rule should come back, kill 1 model and the others pass. However, when you execute a guy you should role a dice. On a 1 the unit frags the commissar and still has to take the test. This would balance it out as the more units take a test the more chances you have of rolling a 1 and lossing the commissar. This reflects the old way commissars worked back in 3rd edition. You could also take it a step further and say that catachans frag the commissar on a role of a 1 or a 2. This would be fluffy, but also stop the return of catchan combat blobs of doom. Dont know if that is going to far though.

3) Extermintator needs double shots for sure, at the very least it should have 6 shots.

4) Vanquisher should be a 1 shot Volcano Lance

5) Everyone should be able to take a lasgun. Its well documented in many Black Library books that officers use lasguns!

6) Command squads should get a bonus for working with an officer. Simple solution is the officer gets +1 order for being with 3" of a command squad.

 

Thats all the small changes I think need to happen to improve the internal balance of the codex. Give people the reason to bring some units outside of the norm. It would be cool to see more conscripts, command squads and more than just the Battle Cannon Leman Russ :smile.:

I did my bit comrades, hopefully we can see some old and loved Guard regiments coming in plastic :wink:

Mines in!

 

Mentioned the "Guard overpowered" thing and pointed out its really "Guard are good at CP's" so asked for a fix for that. Then just Lasguns for Sgt's and Vanquisher turrets.

 

I also pointed out it's a shame conversions are being actively discouraged by having unit options stripped down to exactly what comes in a box and nothing more. GW make dozens of excellent cavalry units, just let us stick a Guardsman on top!
