Hello all I'm a freshly disillusioned space marine player looking to rebel against the light of the emperor. I got the chaos shadowspear side off ebay, Abby and another squad of the new marines. I like the idea of being able to summon demons and am curious if any are better then the other. I'm thinkin black legion doesnt get any great benefits from them but I think it would look cool on the table. Also just any more advice where to go next would be great I'm not really looking to min/max I'm more of a fluffy player, but im also not opposed to it. Anyway thanks all hoping to kill some loyalists soon.

Welcome to the fold, Brother Captain Slambo. May your blood sing to the glory of the dark gods, and your hearts beat with the Warmaster's fury.

At the moment, due to the reserve rules, daemons are far better off fielded in their own side detachment rather than summoned, so I'd recommend that. The daemon subforum will have more specific advice on what particular daemonic units are strongest these days, though recent khorne releases and upcoming slaaneshi releases may tip the scales a bit. Otherwise, consider some terminators and maybe a terminator sorcerer to accompany the Despoiler. You wouldn't want Abaddon to be lonely.

As noted by others, fielding daemons is best in their own detachment, and which daemons you want will likely depend on what you have in your other detachments.

That said, some broad generalizations:

- Khorne are the best in melee, and have access to rerolling charge distances, which gives them the best chance of any daemon of getting into melee after being deepstruck or summoned;

- Nurgle are the most resilient, which make them good if you want units to hold objectives with;

- Slaanesh are the fastest, but with no means of improving charge distances, so are no better at getting into melee than other daemons if they come out of reserves/summoned.  As well, the are the most fragile;

- Tzeench are the shootiest and the most generalist, with units that do the broadest variety of roles - the other gods tend to do one thing to exclusion of all else.
