The title comes from my proven tactic so far with Bjorn - surrounding him with buddies and just walking him straight into the enemy lines.

So I'm going to my first real tournament the first weekend of June. Bugeater, 2,000 points, standard ITC set up. I've been toying with lists based around what I've had work in the past with my limited experience in 8th edition. I've ended up designing two lists that I think are pretty strong, although they each have some weaknesses that I'll get into. Anyway, suggestions are welcome.

1st List - Thunder

HQs

Bjorn the Fell Handed

 - Heavy Plasma Cannon

Rune Priest Jurgen Windcaller on a Bike

 - Runic Sword, Psychic Hood, Storm Bolter

Iron Priest Ulf Blackbrow on Thunderwolf

 - Thunder Hammer

Wolf Guard Battle Leader in Terminator Armor

 - Power Axe, Combi-Flamer

Troops

x3 5 Grey Hunters

 - Plasma Gun

Elites

5 Wulfen

 - 4 TH/SS

 - Pack Leader w/ Frost Claws

5 Wolf Guard Bikers

 - 5 Storm Bolters, 5 Storm Shields

Heavy Support

x2 5 Long Fangs

 - 4 Missile Launchers

5 Hellblasters

 5 Plasma Incinerators

Dedicated Transports

x3 Razorbacks

 - Twin Linked Lascannons

So the gist is that the Hellblasters stick with Bjorn for the entirety of the match, acting as his bodyguard and getting that delicious reroll 1s to safely overcharge all the time. Ulf Blackbrow and the Razorbacks will also be nearby so Ulf can heal everyone and the Razorbacks can also get that reroll. Wulfen will outflank, and the TDAWGBL will be in the teleportarium. Usually, he will deep strike next to the Long Fangs, but if the opportunity is too good, he'll go somewhere else (like with the Wulfen, or if the Grey Hunters all get out at once). I'm considering swapping Ulf for a Wolf Priest and outflanking him with the Wulfen.

2nd List - Lightning

HQ

Bjorn the Fell-Handed

 - Twin-Linked Lascannon

Rune Priest Jurgen Windcaller on a Bike

 - Runic Sword, Psychic Hood

Iron Priest Ulf Blackbrow on Thunderwolf

 - Thunder Hammer

Troops

x3 9 Grey Hunters w/ Wolf Guard Pack Leader

 - Blood Howl: 2 Melta Guns, WGPL w/ Combi-Melta, Frost Sword

 - Sun Wolves + Sagacallers: 2 Plasma Guns, WGPL w/ Combi-Plasma, Frost Sword

Elites

5 Wulfen

 - 4 TH/SS

 - Pack Leader w/ Frost Claws

5 Wolf Guard Bikers

 - 5 Storm Bolters, 5 Storm Shields

Fast Attack

x2 Cyberwolves

3 Interceptors

 - Assault Bolters

Heavy Support

5 Hellblasters

 5 Plasma Incinerators

Dedicated Transports

x3 Rhinos

 - 2 Storm Bolters

The core of this list is the same, except the Long Fangs and TDAWGBL have been traded out for 2 Cyberwolves for anti-infiltration, Interceptors, and bulking out the Grey Hunter packs. The point of this list is just to barrel forward as much as possible and crash into the enemy lines. I'd almost want to have the WUlfen on the board turn one to make this drunken charge even more intimidating, but I think putting them in Outflank would force the enemy to hold back a little to guard their table edges. At the very list, it will keep them safe for a couple turns.

Overall, I'm leaning towards Bjorn for my Warlord since his Saga of Majesty would make his reroll 1s aura into a 9" sphere, which is great since I have so many mobile units surrounding him. On the other hand, i was considering Frostfury on Jurgen and Armor of Russ on Ulf, meaning that I could put Saga of the Beastslayer on either for some decent anti-armor. Assuming SotBS affects Frostfury, meaning that I'd be wounding monsters and vehicles of T7 or lower on a 4+ for 2 damage a pop. Speaking of Frostfury, I've found it ideal for Rune Priests on Bikes, since it gives them punch and lets them advance to their heart's content since it is an assault weapon.

Thoughts?

Hmm, so tempted to make a Wolf Lord named Hannibal just so I can annoy my opponents by having all the Space Wolves constantly say "I ain't gettin' on no goddamn plane Hannibal".

What type of tournament? ITC rules?

I stopped taking cyber wolves because they give up easy kill points on turn 1 and sont survive to bubble out DS. It seems like EVERYONE has indirect fire (loyal 32 usually comes with mortars and wyverns common addition) when i go to tournaments

Yes. ITC rules.

I haven't had much experience with facing indirect fire yet, but you make a good point about it. My only problem with replacing them is that, besides being anti-deep strike, the Cyberwolves are there because I didn't know what else to do with 36 points and I figured if nothing else they could draw a bit of fire. And by having the two of them, I can qualify for an Outrider detachment for an extra command point.

I would ditch the wolves honestly

Kill points are a big deal in ITC format and picking off a wolf is too easy

In a tournament people will take advantage of that

Casual games are better for them

If you really want that CP you can go vanguard instead

sell the wolves and your frost swords

buy a great company champion...he can do the job of DS bubble and not be targeted bc character

I agree with Armour of Russ on the Iron Priest. 2+/4++ is tasty and forcing an opponent to strike last is great if they try and rush Bjorn with a heavy hitter like a Flyrant or greater daemon.
Sanguinius stood up, stretching his wings to their full extent. He flexed his hands. "I need no blade".
It was as though Sanguinius gleamed with pale light, his face white, eyes becoming blood-red, surrounded by the golden crown of flowing hair. Guilliman had witnessed glimpses of of his brother's wrath before, but had never seen the true Blood Angel unleashed. Sanguinius surged forward on alabaster wings, half a meter from the floor, whiteness streaming from him like flames.

With the point cuts to the master crafted power sword, I could get the Great Company Champion just by dropping a stormbolter on each of the rhinos and dropping the Cyberwolves. The Champion really doesn't do anything for me, so I might just drop the frost swords too so i can have a banner man following behind Bjorn - and, more importantly, the Hellblasters.

Oh definitely. That increased heroic intervention range is actually super helpful, which is why I packed a bunch of hard-hitting characters into the lists. I've gotten a lot of usage out of it, and the only sour note I've noticed about the Iron Priest is the lack of invuln, which the Armor of Russ solves rather nicely. And hey! The slowing down enemy initiative is great in conjunction with that heroic intervention. Not only do you have to deal with an Iron Priest more than you bargained for, the unit you assaulted with will go last

I attended Bugeater last weekend using a modified version of the above lists. I managed to get a couple battles in against my usual opponent, a Chaos player who uses daemons and Heretic Astartes interchangeably. What I learned was that having a large number of bolter shots, while nice a lot of the time, didn't give me much in the way of anti-armor or reach, both of which I desperately needed when so much of my list needs to be in the midrange to do most of their damage. With that in mind, I mind a couple small changes and ended up with the following list. Because I forgot that Battalions can't have 4 HQs, I accidentally lost a command point just to cover that.

The final version of my list was this:

HQ

Bjorn the Fell-Handed

 - Twin-Linked Lascannon

Rune Priest Jurgen Windcaller on a Bike

 - Runic Sword, Psychic Hood, Storm Bolter (Frostfury)

Iron Priest Ulf Blackbrow on Thunderwolf

 - Thunder Hammer, Bolter, Armor of Russ

Wolf Priest Rejvik Flametongue

Troops

x3 9 Grey Hunters w/ Wolf Guard Pack Leader

 - Blood Howl: 2 Melta Guns, WGPL w/ Combi-Melta, Frost Sword

 - Sun Wolves + Sagacallers: 2 Plasma Guns, WGPL w/ Combi-Plasma, Frost Sword

Elites

5 Wulfen

 - 4 TH/SS

 - Pack Leader w/ Frost Claws

Fast Attack

3 Cyberwolves

Heavy Support

5 Hellblasters

 5 Plasma Incinerators

Flyer

Stormwolf

2 Lascannons, 2 Twin Heavy Bolters, Twin Helfrost Cannon

Dedicated Transports

x3 Rhinos

I'll be making a post about how it worked out in the main Space Wolves discussion board, but I wanted to post this here to show how my list developed.
