Battle for Armageddon

Recommended Posts

Namely, how would one go about trying to replicate the force led by Brother Captain Aurelian that banished Angron beyond just 100 basic terminators and a single brother captain?  Could things like Paladins, Chaplains and Librarians fit seeing as they are in terminator armour and would be logical inclusions in such a force that were not present in the fluff at the time it was written?

Also, anyone else hoping to have a Grey knight ask the custodes why they did not aid them with Angron?

I'm assuming that the company would have its normal complement of terminator armored command staff.

It would be weird for them to tell the company chaplain to hang out on the battle barge, "We're only facing a daemon primarch. Not a test of our faith at all. Stay behind. Kick your legs up."

Similar reasoning for the librarians, "Psychic support? Against and opponent like a daemon primarch?!? Pfft. Don't worry, dude. It'll be easy. We got this."

Paladins are, iirc and strictly speaking, a part of the company, so perhaps there literally weren't any there. Seems unlikely though. You don't leave your best behind when going up against something like that. Heck, I bet the only reason there wasn't a grandmaster there was because grandmasters were more nebulous things in the fluff back when this was first written.

"100 Grey Knights and a Brother Captain."

Read: Take whatever the hell suits your fancy.

The task was to banish a Daemon Primarch.

I don't see why there would be only the basics around.

Accomplish the task given above, and build your force to tank, take out, and delay the allied support of, a Daemon Primarch.

One more thing: you know at least one of this thing's names, so, weaponize that fact through Psychers all day.

Wasn't that where Hyperion earned the title Blade Breaker? He was one of only 13 to have survived out of the 109 Grey Knights sent there.

Hyperion was iirc an Interceptor, so you have at least one Interceptor squad for sure.

Sounds right.

I need to go reread The Emperor's Gift now.

Heh.

I thought before Guilliman came back Custodes never stepped off Terra for any reason.

Also, speaking of golden armour didn't the BroCap who led the GKs against Angron have gold Terminator armour? Just something of note if you don't mind painting up a BroCap model dedicated to being that particular hero in the lore.

Exactly, but the fact they have chosen to now, when a daemon primarch had previously entered realspace and they did nothing,

Where is the golden armour from? in the bit about the battle in Index Chaotica it's described as steel blue grey. I admit some of the descriptions and way the Brother captain seem to be able to martially hold his own against Angron is a bit odd.

Also who is Hyperion?

I think that they never set off from Terra simply because no one ever ordered them to. Their priority and training was to protect the Emperor on Terra, and the rest of the Imperium never had the authority nor expectation for them to do anything but that. It was only when Guilliman returned to Terra and "spoke" with the Emperor granting him the direct authority to lead the rest of the Imperium, where he finally gave orders to the Custodes to step outside and do some work. They would have been also useful along with the Sisters of Silence when the Grey Knights fought the Daemon Primarch Mortarion.

Never mind about the golden armour. He was referred to as Taremar the Gold or the Golden Captain due to "the maddeningly long list of noble deeds" he had preformed.

Hyperion was once a psyker under the training of Inquisitor Ravenor, but then recruited to be a Grey Knight where taking part in the battle of Armageddon - he was able to shatter Angron's blade at the defence of his fallen brother - before Brother Captain Taremar challenged the Daemon Primarch in battle.

Now while I can't back anything up with GK lore, my Black Templars Captain rocks the Helbrecht style himself and has *fabulous* golden armor.

Adds a lot more character than just using the Captain sprue you see everywhere and painting him black like all his men.

So why not have your warlord stand out a little?

I'd likely keep him in either Grey knight silver blue or maybe try a marble effect, I'd like to potentially get some ssisters of Silence and custodes at some point to do a trifoil Talons of the Emperor force so should likely keep the grey knights grey :P
Also, I take it there is a more recent source for the conflict of Armageddon?

I'm not sure if there is one anymore recent about the Armageddon battle, but the novel The Empoeror's Gift actually centres around that event. And you get a close up description of it through the eyes of Hyperion, right in the middle of the battle / slaughter! It's quite inspiring for a GK player.

  • 2 weeks later...

If it's a narrative set up, point them as GKTs but play them as paladins, double the shots for all heavy/special weapons not including the incinerator, and give all shooting weapons +1 to wound across the board.

Unlimited psychic powers with all units.

Narrative grey Knights should have the shooting of a Custard Jetbike captain and the attacks to follow it in a unit that can teleport around the board at a whim (and successful psychic test). Each unit should (locally) outshoot and outfight most non elite units.

Regarding Emperor's Gift, all Grey Knights (unlike any other chapter) all have a suit of aegis power armor and aegis Terminator armor.

Technically speaking, we should have access to Terminator armored Purgation squads. The interceptors wear the power armor because...GW wanted a model vareint so "it's only able to be used on the smaller armor" *rolls eyes*.

Hyperion and the squad he was part of were rocking TDA because one is going to be taking a lot of AP when fighting the rampaging hordes of Angrons Daemonic and mortal forces, half measures aren't needed.
