Thousand Sons ITC

Not sure how many of the sorcerers here compete in ITC events... they are quite popular in my area and I play in them fairly often.  I was wondering what opinions are out there about the new faction ruling?

I understand some people who are driven to compete for BEST IN FACTION now are limited by not having access to the range of chaos soup in their <Thousand Sons> army and they either need to change lists or compete in <CHAOS>.  Those that play to win events will still play soup... so what does this mean for the health of the community?

Over all I think it is good for BEST IN FACTION competitors as they will be all on the same playing field with more limited access to unit variety.  BUT those that want to win events AND best in faction will struggle with some of the best tools being taken away - we are pretty luckly with a fairly good mono-codex.  Also for those focused on BEST IN FACTION, say a lower quality index like Grey Knights... if their local meta is really bad and they win 3 local events, then go to 2 larger events and get face stomped they will likely out score a better player who mid-tiers at local and larger events.

Just some thoughts...

PS- not sure mono Thousand Sons is my jam so might stick with <TZENTCH> and keep pure deamons in the list...

The community as a whole probably nothing at all. Those who want to compete at the top levels will still do so with little to no changes.

Those who truly are gunning for "Best in Faction" will make tweaks in their list for sure. Pure factions won't magically make it to the top tables (with the exception of Tau/Orks). Though there will likely be an increase in pure faction lists way to early to tell.

Or worst case scenario, imo, part of the year some players will compete with soup as is the status quo and make their points and for another portion of the year play pure faction to gun for "best in faction" and the people winning "best in faction" won't change much as whether or not they play soup will determine where they want those ITC points to go for any given tournament.

Here is hoping to an eventual boost from GW to mono factions (they won't do anything to lessen or make soup worse), and a campaign book featuring us with new specialist strats, relics, etc. and possible new units.

I know...a pipe dream. But one can hope!

Personally I'm not really a big fan of ITC but I do play it and make a point of using their scenarios leading up to their tournaments.

Although it will never matter to me (I don't play a dozen ITC events a year), I love the new faction ruling and my understanding from the size of the vote, is most other people are overwhelming in favour of non-soup.

This is something that will hardly change the meta though. Those that chase the 'win' will still soup it up, and Xenos don't care. But the thing that will come out of this is Thousand Sons are not nearly as strong as people like to say they are.

I personally rarely play my Thousand Sons in soup format. But I get told, or asked about seeing some miscellaneous net list that won ITC event XYZ or whatever.  None of those "Thousand Sons" winning armies meet the current criteria for best Thousand Sons faction.

When people show me these lists I often say, "I don't remember seeing Mortarion, Khorne Daemon Princes and 80 Plaguebearers in the codex."  Those will now appropriately be labeled as Soup and I'm good with it.

On the other hand people like me who stay within the constraints of "Thousand Sons" will have a much better time contending for best in faction, but sadly they won't win much else.

That's been my play style for the most part. I stick with just the sons codex or ally in some Tzeentch daemons but that is about it. Not a big fan of seeing "Thousand sons" but the only thousand sons part is ahriman and some son daemon princes.
