Rubicon Primaris and existing characters

So... The Rubicon Primaris is supposed to be a deadly process, with no guaranteed result of success.

As GW starts turning all the existing characters into Primaris, I wonder: Do you think any of our current characters will die in the process?

Would GW be willing to shake up the status quo of the game like that?

I think they will for lesser characters.

I don't see azrael dying, because that requires at minimum a new supreme grand master belial, and a new grand master of the deathwing ________. In fact, i think the leadership of the big 4 chapters are safe.

If we ever get a da expansion or something, maybe a successor grand master would get a mention of dying in the process. for example grand master nakir of the consecrators, and they'll introduce a new rubicon/primaris master through his death.

HQ will die, but i think it'll be the lesser known/used characters

To be honest I think it’s just the mcguffin that explains why every marine doesn’t go through the process to be bigger faster and stronger.

Well, yeah.

... still, having SOMEONE important DIE of the process, as it is SUPPOSED to be a dangerous one with a high mortality rate, would at least make it easier to swallow, wouldn't it?

I figure GW would actually want to give us some sense of consistency with their own lore, in order to get on our good side about retiring our marines and buying the new stuff.

I volunteer Asmodai to die in the process! I also want Belial or Sammael to be the first if the unforgiven to get the upgrade, just so that we have some idea what direction they want to go with Primaris in snowflake chapters.

I would be happy if we just get a new Azrael model. It does not have to be a primaris model.

Maybe Azrael as Seneschall to the Lion. I guess he has to give back the Lion Helm at some point. So a good reason to make a new model.:biggrin.:

If we believe that GW's long term plan is for Primaris units to become the norm, then you have to find some way to upgrade the Deathwing and Ravenwing to Primaris, without breaking the existing fluff of the Dark Angels having a natural distrust of Primaris outsiders. Rubicon Primaris seems the only way around this, so perhaps how it would work is that they develop a refinement to the process which should improve survivability, test it out on Belial, and then roll out to the rest of the DW.

Rumor has it a new box set is coming with the aftermath of Vigilus, with Dark Angels and another faction.

Woumd make sense.

We already have every Primaris Equivalent except Terminators and Bikes. Tacticals, Scouts, Assault with Jump Packs, Assault on foot, Centurions, Devastators... Its just TDA and Bikes missing.

It only makes sense that, when releasing them, they do so with a DA release.

After all, what better chapter for Terminators and Bikes than us?

I guess that all DA SC Will be made primaris at some point

And in the fluff DA started to trust primaris cause there is a whole generation of primaris marines made by DA on the Rock now cause BobbyG gave all chapters the technology to male primaris at home

By now the more trusted primaris are all within a primaris "inner circle" until Azrael decided what to do with them (read until GW Will make primaris TDA and bikes so se Will have primaris DW and RW)

So it's Just a matter of time

P.S.: about the BOLS "rumors" i Will be surprised if Just a single Word of that junk Will be true

I feel like at some point they will need to put primaris in the DW and RW. How they will do that I have no idea. I can see jet bikes in the Ravenwing but the DW is trickier.

I think a primaris terminator isn’t too far out. Bikes also. As many has said before, primaris will be the new thing going forwards. People will be mad for a couple of years (read as forever) but new players will start with primaris and never know the difference. It would be cool to make all OG marines vets so vet tactical squads and give them more options. I guess it’s sternguard at that point tho. I would love to see some primaris terminators. Maybe a gravis suit with a 4++?

I'm not expecting Primaris bikes or Terminator armor - rescaled TDA probably, but not Primaris "Terminators." There may be an additional armor with a fourth armor layer, but Gravis is pretty hefty already. Based on what Jes Goodwin said in his second Voxcast interview, I think we'll probably just see some variant Aggressors, and GW will eventually decide that the Unforgiven break with the all TDA 1st Companies. Plenty of ways to fill the "heavy mailed fist" without the Marines having to be in TDA.

I agree with Bryan, I think Gravis armour is the terminator equivalent for the new range, so we're unlikely to see Primaris TDA (which would be contrary to the lore of terminator armour being ancient and rare anyway).

I'm thinking that in the future, there will probably be a 'heavy infantry' release for Primaris (in the same way that we've just started seeing the Vanguard wave of lightly armoured recon troops). That release would include a greater variety of options for Gravis armoured troops, for example a melee unit with shields and great swords, heavy weapon squads with twin las-talons, Gravis armoured chaplains and librarians etc etc. And I think at that point we'll start seeing these new units painted in the bone armour of the Deathwing, representing either classic marines who have passed through the Rubicon or Primaris veterans who have progressed through the ranks and entered the Inner Circles of the chapter.

I'm not so sure about the Ravenwing, as the impression I get is that GW is trying (as much as possible) not to duplicate existing units with the new range. Jetbikes are an option, but I could equally see them changing the lore of the Ravenwing to include other types of fast moving unit like jump troops. Primaris have always reminded me of the Mobile Infantry from Starship Troopers (the book, not the film), with power armour itself providing them with their strength and abilities - including mobility. Perhaps there will be a 'jump infantry' wave at some point, with variant units of Inceptors or Suppressors painted in the black of the Ravenwing?

I think just releasing Gravis Squads as the new Deathwing, might be the way they go.

But, changing the Ravenwing into Jump Units? The Blood Angels are all about Jump Infantry. One would expect we retain our focus on bikes and speeders.

No reason for GW to alienate a whole group of costumers, by taking out the signature style of the codex out of it.

Its true that the DW and the RW seem to have been poorly designed as a cohesive whole, in this edition. But they still have their roles.

I expect GW to probably f*** up the dynamics of the units, again, as they did in our current codex (i.e.: no synergy between the units), but the roles should sti be there.

I’m concerned because GWs aim to have the new primaris units have different roles to the space marines has lead to the bizarre identity crisis that is the suppressors.

I'm anticipating some kind of repulsor bikes at some point that have some gimmick to differentiate them from normal bikes. Probably something similar to the anti charge aura on the regular repulsor, probably slower than regular bikes but not by much. Also, some zany new weapon that no other unit has that is functionally identical to boltguns. They will also be absurdly overpriced at first so that you'll have to get the next Chapter Approved to make them usable.

EDIT: I'm really expecting that no future marine vehicles will touch the ground. All repulsor all the time.

Maybe we will get Jump Terminators. Gravis Armor with Repulsor Technology. Maybe with missiles that fire without LoS and have a minimum range, so that we are forced to deploy them and use them as distant non-moving fire platforms that can jump/float around.

Edit: Oh, and the missiles don't do damage, but rather work like T'au Markerlights.

So I’m going to briefly derail this topic but seriously at what point did Guilman look at the plasma incinerator and think yes short range rapid fire, this weapon would be best utilised by troops walking steadily until its in maximum fire range. Then he checks out the new auto cannon and thinks yes long range low rate of fire loss of accuracy when moved, let’s drop it in from orbit and then bound around the battle field like a kangaroo.

Arrggghhh someone make this make sense.
