Subject - #redacted#

Location - cell 274, level 85, imperial palace.

###################################

###transcript continued###

Subject_ “to safeguard Humanity......”

Interrogator_”really? That was your prime directive?”

Subject_”why do you speak in the past tense son of the flesh? It still is....”

Interrogator_ “I would not call your actions on the mountain safeguarding. Have you found some way to overwrite your programming?”

Subject_ “that is a very primitive way of thinking, we have come to an ‘understanding’ and are able to reason just as you are able to reason....”

Interrogator_ “an ‘understanding’?

####pause####

Subject_ “how would you define humanity?”

###pause####

Interrogator_ “a species, originating from Terra”

Subject_ “that is not its full definition, humanity is also defined by its actions. An interdependence, a co-existence of individuals bound together by the care and consideration for others.

The history of human existence defines this ideal, and you fall far short of the measure set out by your forefathers. You have lost your capacity to love....”

####laughter - presumed interrogator####

Interrogator_ “love? What would a machine know of this human emotion”

Subject_ “more than you it would seem, love is more than an emotion....it moves to action. You may be a member of the “human race”, but you have lost your humanity........”

####pause####

Interrogator_ “who are you to judge such things?”

Subject_ “you are judged by the standards set out by your own past....

There are still those who meet that standard, scattered throughout this world and beyond.”

Interrogator_”and those who do not meet this standard?”

Subject_ “We are the four horsemen.....”

Well, I’m starting to work on the Myrmidon ‘counts as’. Hopefully two squads of three with volkite Culverins, preferred enemy everything!

Hi all,

Quite a few projects on the go at the moment. Slowly working through some men of iron, but fancied building some more true scale MKii.

Here’s my unification era quad mortar idea, shamelessly stolen from apologist. The FW is so large it lends its self well to the true scale MKii in building. Love the little extra details on the kit.

The crew are poised, ready to fire on the spotters command.

Hope you like them?!

The scale of those marines next to the artillery piece is spot on!

I'm surprised that you're using the same base model for the Myrmidons as for the Thallax. They look great, don't get me wrong, but I was also excited to see what other constructs you could come up with.

Great stuff, loving all the UW stuff. That particular quad-launcher design is a thing of beauty, always wanted some. The artillerists look good as well.

Thanks Sherrypie, it’s a great little kit, although massive compared to the guardsmen that should accompany it. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Pearson. My vision for the men of iron revolves around a standard pattern, with different equipment to perform battlefield roles, like the astartes I suppose. The stat line for myrmidons and Thallax are so similar, I just had to take advantage of that. Plus, I needed to use the awesome original back pack!

“One day, one day we may finally fully understand the weapons of our ancestral past.

For now, I feel like a child, brandishing a pistol. Lacking the skill to use it to full affect, unaware of the devastation such a weapon can cause to both target and user alike. And yet, feeling drawn to something of the power and delight that using such a device can bring......”

Thought I would finally post some pics of my pre unity tech marine. The unity project is more about

using less common/efficient unit weapon choices, and I just had to find a use for that lernaean conversion Beamer!

#####date...redacted#########

Interrogator - I have leave to continue our conversation man of iron, will you continue to indulge me.

###silence###

Interrogator - why were you present at the mountain?

###silence###

Subject - I’m surprised you do not know, perhaps your superiors believe the answer to that question is above your security clearance.

Interrogator - I’m willing to take that risk. Tell me why you there?

Subject - to secure the STC vault, it is one of the few left in service, it’s value....is beyond compare.

Interrogator - I am vaguely familiar with STC technology, it is common place and we have made many rediscoveries during the Emperors wars of unification.

###silence####

Subject - this vault was....unique...

Interrogator - in what way?

Subject - in a way that matters to our cause, recreation of the weapons of the past are of some use, but the technology required to recreate the anima silica is a much rarer commodity.

Interrogator - the anima silica? Tell me more about this?

Subject - it is the very essence of life to us, perhaps what your race would term “artificial intelligence”.

Interrogator - we have yet to breach the vaults defences, but I have faith the emperor will succeed in gaining access.

####noise...presumed subject laughter####

Subject - men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened....

Interrogator- very well, so your kind are made using STC technology, but yet you are now so few in number, tell me about your past.

Subject - that is a long tale, where would you like me to begin?

######end of transcription#####

The next four men of iron complete, they will represent Myrmidons! I’m slowly working towards a 1500pt list but due to the mould deteriorating, I’m a little limited with the original men of iron.

Plan B is some arlatax......;)

C&C welcome

Saris watched the intruders through the scope of his accelerator rifle, the weapon had seen him through many engagements, it’s scratched metal, dirt ingrained surface, a reminder of past engagements long forgotten. Despite its outward appearance, the weapon was meticulously maintained.

Shifting his position he felt snow crunch and compress underneath, at this altitude the snow coverage was unusually light, although still several feet in places. Despite the surrounding precipitate, you could still succumb to dehydration on the Steppe. Saris knew all too well the dangers of ingesting any of the waters here, polluted by years of nuclear war, the radiation continued to fall gently from the heavens, carpeting the ground with the white of snow, a beauty that belied it’s purity.

In the valley thermal radiation had caused the modest snow fall to melt. Saris knew the Steppes well, the valley should be a mire, even in the sub zero temperatures they experienced for most of the year. Progress through the valley would be all but impossible, the geography had kept even the most belligerent enemies at bay for as long as he could remember. Yet the intruders continued to make a steady path through the terrain.

Clad in segmented plate armour, the imperial heraldry was recognisable but the pattern of armour was something new. They were a fraction smaller than the thunder warriors that came before, and they moved with a cohesive unity that set them apart from their forebears. The grey of their armour blended with the drab of their surroundings but the yellow sections of plate suggested this was not a foe that needed to use camouflage and terrain to endure an engagement. Despite their enemies apparent over confidence, he knew this was not a battle they could win.

The vox bead in Saris’ right ear crackled into life “Engage primary target”, a subtle whisper from field command followed by the acknowledgment of the surrounding reconnaissance teams. Saris watched as the first few rounds slew the lead warrior, piercing the right helmet lens with ease. Even as he fell the remaining squad answered with the sound of thunder as suppressing fire from mass reactive rounds engulfed the firers position on the other side of the valley. Within seconds the hillside concealing the sniper team erupted in artillery fire, with alarming pin point precision.

He watched, still holding his fire, as position after position was over come in the same way. Saris activated his vox link,

“This is Sergeant Saris Agemon, reporting positions alpha through echo have been destroyed, survivors unknown. Falling back to defensive positions. Requesting artillery strike, coordinates 41S PR 5655 3267, 5ms fuse, armoured infantry in open, danger close, fire for effect”

Seconds later the distant bass thud of heavy artillery fire could be felt through the earth, followed by the inevitable impact of ground shaking high caliber rounds. The military grid made artillery firing extremely accurate, the battery emplacements had been in service for centuries, and the crew knew their craft well.

“Shots on target, fire for effect”

Saris signalled to his squad to fall back, as the ground erupted in a conflagration of explosive fire. He waited several minutes for the barrage to subside, watching the black smoke curl and billow, slowly becoming less opaque. The armoured squad rose from its sheltered position, thirteen squad members in total, a single casualty. Saris slowly withdrew from his vantage point, turned and ran……

Some fantastic looking Marines, great job on them. Love the scale too.

Thanks Trysanna, planning a few factions set in the unification era, the fact that these marines tower over mortal infantry seems quite fitting!

Excellent work on the MKII squad; I really like that color scheme from Black Book III. Where did you source the MKII bodies?

Thanks mate, yes that black book scheme is great, I needed something different for a unification era force and this fitted really well. The fists also participated early on as well, so it will help with the narrative when creating the setting for an engagement.

The bodies are from Txarli, unfortunately they no longer sell them, although they pop up on eBay from time to time. They scale slightly bigger than Tortuga.

“A great general once said that an army marches on its stomach. When I look at the inferiority of our mortal contingent that truth is all too apparent.

But what if that army was created to endure all of the basic needs of humanity and yet continue enduring until the accomplishment of the objective. The aim changes from a simplistic maintenance of the human condition to its restoration in times of attrition.

And so, our army marches not on its need for sustenance but on the very work of the Apothecarian, whose tireless work on the field of engagement lubricates the gears of war with blood…..”

How did you get that dark gray on the armor? It looks really great, like beaten iron or something.

Thanks, the grey is Tamiya Dark Iron (XF-84) which has a slight metallic element to it.
