Hey guys, I have been on and off this forum for a while but I am just starting my guard army. At least just starting the painting of it. I have a test model in the works and some pics of it, but not sure how to upload them here. I post on a phone, so any help on how to upload pics that way would be appreciated. Looks like a good start, are you going for a winter or urban scheme?

Winter, basically the regiment has been trained specifically for high altitude fighting. Of coarse that will not stop commanders from throwing them into whatever combat situation arises.

Cool, what basing scheme will you use? A snowy tundra would look nice I reckon.

That is exactly what I plan on at the moment. I have never used snow before so should be interesting.

Sounds good to me, keen to see the first finished miniature :tu: The new (relatively) GW snow texture is good from all accounts, certainly looks good when I've seen it on models. I'm sure GW aren't the only people who've got a decent snow though so you can probably get the same result in many ways :)

On the subject of bases, heres a good example/tutorial for creating snowy bases with the GW texture paints:

 

The guard scheme is even pretty close to yours to boot!

To get 'icy snow' effect on bases you can use baking soda with 'super glue' (Ethyl Cyanoacrylate) or any other 'clear' glue that doesn't get yellowish with the time.

Spyboy, I'd suggest going with a premade snow texture - GW's Valhallan Blizzard is nice but it's very expensive. Vallejo does a Ground Texture Snow in a 200ml pot for approximately twice the cost of GW's 24ml one.

 

I used both brands on the five bases below and I can't tell the difference:
