Da Orkz ETL VII Muster

WAAAAGH!!!

Ok, ya gits, it’s come to that time of year again. Where all the frater split into their clans, draw lines in the sand, and kickstart their buggies in a tear across the dunes for a raucous good time with only a mild amount of extreme violence.

Oh, wait, no, that’ll just be us.

ETL VII is coming, and after the successful showing we greenskins made last year in WAAAGH!!! Warhead01 (or ETL VI as them ‘umies called it), I’m hoping we can build and build, going for that unstoppable green tide the galaxy fears. So, get your boss poles, sharpen up them choppas, and reorder the green paint, cause ETL VII is nigh!

What’s ETL?

E TENEBRAE LUX (or ETL) is a board-wide, community painting event. We are grouped up into factions and compete to complete the most points in painting across the event. It seeks to motivate the frater to build their collections while socializing and interacting with their sub-forums. It is a challenge, one to paint units for your chosen army over the length of the event to the best of your ability.

There are rewards, both individual and collective. Anyone who completes their vows will be able to place the “Custos Fidei”, the ETL badge of honor, in their signature. Collectively, faction compete for the “Primus Inter Pares”, the ETL champion, by counting up all the points painted. In this way, even the smallest contribution does its part in the collective goal.

Da Legend of WAAAGH!!! Warhead01

Last year was the 6th ETL event on the Bolter and Chainsword, but it was our first, as the Xenos wasn’t added to the B&C until 8th edition. What do the runtherdz have to say about our conquests from last year?

Well, we:

  • Finished 3rd (out of five factions) within the Xenos forums
  • Our completion percentage was 86%, third best across all forums (20 in all)
  • Our average vow was 637, good for 10th (out of 20)
  • And we accomplished all that with 4 participants, tied for 2nd fewest (with two others)

All things considered, we should be very pleased with what we accomplished. The hope is that if we see our mob grow, while maintaining those stellar numbers, we can improve our position this year.

Who we gotta krump?!?

All of them, obviously. But the Blood Axe boyz are telling me we should “pry-or-i-tyz”. So, I will break the competition down into two parts:

  • Da Xenos - Ya, the panzees, the tin ‘eads, those four armed buggers and their toothy masters, and the blue mek-lovers are our “teammates” in this competition. We came in 3rd last year, but make no mistake, we were way behind the first place Tau. We’re with them all for ETL Magister but competitors for two solo titles.
  • Da ‘umies, beakies, spiky ones, and more beakies, but older this time - I’m combining all them because, realistically, we’re not competing with them for much. The truth is, us Xenos are small change compared to the longer established forums, and while I would love to puff my chest and throw down the gauntlet, I can’t ignore the reality. Still, any single forum or faction we overcome is still a helmet we can add to our trophy rack. Every other faction of forums is competing for the ETL Magister award.

The ETL VII

While there is no official announcement yet, the word is that this event will be very similar to last years. We’re past one of the historical start dates, but the ETL is coming, and it runs for 3 months once started. As per Semper's post, ETLVII will run from June 1st to September 1st.

Assuming the rules are the same as last year, here's what we can expect:

  • To join a faction, you must make your first vow within the first month of the event. Once you declare for a forum, that is the only one your vows contribute to for the event.
  • You can make up to 5 vows, for a total of 20,000 points. The vows are sequential, so you must complete one before you declare the next.
  • Any uncompleted vows wipes out your entire contribution. MAKE NO VOWS YOU CANNOT COMPLETE, as even missing your 5th vow by a single unit will erase everything you’ve accomplished in the first 4 vows.
  • A picture showing the unpainted unit when you vow, and a picture when the unit is complete is all that is required. We heavily encourage posting work in progress pics in various threads.
  • Units must be unpainted at the start. They can be primed.
  • Units and points are the most up-to-date versions, must be a legal unit from the Codex or Index, and must be WYSIWYG.

What’s da plan?

Last year, we made manageable vows and got maximum participation from a small group of members. We’ll build on that.

  • Use the next few weeks to get ready. Inventory and purchase what you want to work on, build models, and work out what you think you can accomplish this summer.
  • Be reasonable about what you think you can do. Select units you want to paint, and make manageable vows that won’t wear you out
  • Make a plan for vows. There’s multiple strategies for this, such as starting big and then revowing with single units, or starting with a character, doing a big vow, and then finishing with a character, and so on and so forth. There is no right way, but if you have an idea of what you want to accomplish, you can maybe use future vows to push you through finishing a previous vow.
  • Participate! This is a community-building event, so get in this thread, the outpost when Semper posts it, and let's talk strategy, share progress, and have a good time.
  • My personal strategy: keep in mind the competition is by points, and as a horde army, painting lots of boyz and grots may not be the best strategy. Prepare characters and vehicles to maximize your time-to-points ratio.

Orkz are the best, cause we’re green. And strong. And definitely a collective. Last year, Warhead01 lead us and got his name blazoned across the stars as the Warboss of ETLVI. Who will be the warlord of ETLVII?

In the interest of organizing things better, please use tags for your threads. You can check this post for how to use tags. The official tags for the ETL are:
  • E Tenebrae Lux
  • E Tenebrae Lux VII
  • ETL
  • ETL VII
Thank you. Edited by toaae

Plannin' time!

As I mentioned above, I'm going with characters and vehicles this year. I did boyz and a mek gun last year, and as satisfying as it was painting those, they combined for a paltry amount of points while requiring me to paint a bunch of stuff. This year I'm better prepared. I'm going to start with a few characters, knock out some vehicles, and I plan to finish with a Stompa. I just need one of those in my collection, rules be damned.

Keep in mind that accomplishing fewer and smaller vows is infinitely better than failing to finish any size or number of vows.

Finally.

I think this year will I should work on more vehicles. At best I think I can manage 5 of them.

I didn't see the start date....

The plan. Only what I can get finished. Ideally we should try to hit a high percentage at every update but stageted after the first vow.

So 100 on the first update and take turns there after. You complete a vow then I vow and we trade off so we maximize our 100 percent.... Or not we're Orks so I am sure we'll just do what ever.

Any one who has a cool plan should thow it in so we can do big things.

But as I said I am only considering 5 vehicles.

If you know your time is limited doing a few small vows may be your best bet. If you want to paint more tou still can. Remember you can paint along as well as vow...if that lets you scratch the itch and help the warparty.

Aye, smart words from last year's Warboss. Coordinating would be cool, but I know I can't say for certain how long things will take for me, so I'm not sure that would work.

Also, there is no start date yet cause Semper hasn't given us one. I'm inclined to think this will be the lastest start for an ETL, probably June-August.

Sad to report that at this point I am still not really excited enough to spend any money on new models for the ETL. My view is that if I do not feel 100% excited or interested in something then I shouldn't spend money on it. And to that end it is unlikely I will participate for the Orks this year. The only good news I have is that I am once again finding some interest in 40K after nearly 6 months of zero interest.
I hope the Orks do as well or better this year than last year.

Though I promised you last year “In 2019 you’ll have my choppa!”...unfortunately I’ll be away for about three weeks of the ETL and really need to focus on my Mentors/GSC for AoP2019, so unfortunately....

In 2020 you’ll have my choppa! :D

This gives me more time to get models ready too ;)

Boo, hiss!

No, it's fully understandable. Time is a valuable commodity, and I applaud anyone participating in Armies on Parade. Best of luck with your entry!

Thanks.

Next year’s AoP will be my Snakebites-and-Bad Moons-versus-Necrons. Unless I don’t get to enter this year, in which case everything else push a back year :(

This is fantastic timing for me! I'm just getting back into 40k and just starting orks. Right now I don't have a whole lot bought or built, but I'm going to use this as motivation to get going with them.

Welcome to the B&C! Any contribution to the WAAAGH!!! is appreciated, and we're always eager to have new gits stalking among us.

I have sad news: I decided to run for the Chaos Space Marines for my first ETL.

But it would be awesome, if there would be an Ork painting event after ETL. Is there something planned? :whistling:

Planned? Not at this time. But I would love to see us do something. Let's table this for now, but anyone who wants to brainstorm or has thoughts about an Ork-event can feel free to either make a new topic or message me.

So I thought it was a little quiet here and was looking around for something I could get excited to paint. I found something but as I have been stretched a little thing this month due to...Warhammer... Ok, I'll be honest it all the Space Marines fault. :whistling:

I just missed 2 models at an absurdly low price.

But I will keep an eye out early next month so I can throw in with the rest of you Bosses for at least one vow.
Spoilers.

I was looking at a Kustom Busta Blasta.
Because of course I was. :biggrin.:

Hmm. Looks like I may go with Guard for this year's ETL. Not enough orks completely unpainted points-wise, plus they're already more playable that my Guard who are severely lacking infantry and can't even get a battalion going, never mind a brigade (enough models for the troops, but not painted). I'll probably end up doing non-event painting during the summer for the orks though, since I need to finish up the tankbustas, try finishing more of the boyz with or without contrast paints, and also there's the pile of grots (actually the biggest unfinished aspect of my orks)... bah. I wish one could vow for multiple factions :tongue.:
