It’s Happening! (Transport is coming!)

Recommended Posts

I just watched the video... cool they are using music from the video game. It’s an excellent sound track.

Also as I watched the dialogue in the video I became more and more convinced ‘we’ are represented on the left and GW is on the right. By the end of the conversation I felt convinced of it. Lol.

Exciting times.

Yeah, definitely. I was laughing through the whole video as a result. Fantastic stuff.

I'm not sure which is more likely out of us getting a flier/hover vehicle or a walker. I hope it's not just a Howdah with some tiny spider legs dangling under it. Regardless of my personal impressions on what the model should look like, it's probably going to fly off the shelves. I must respect GW's approach to supporting the Adeptus Mechanicus faction. Apart from the Cyraxus situation Games Workshop have taken fairly good care of us model-wise.

I wouldn't say no to a tracked, LoS blocking brick, but any support is welcome and the triaros fits that profile anyway... If I could field it.

I really like the Triaros and the Macrocaris Explorator, I'd like to add one or the other to my Mechanicus army at some point but I've probably got more hobby backlog to get through first. I just think it's more likely we will get a flier or walker. When we get our plastic transport I will be getting that unless I really hate the model, backlog be damned. :p

They must have a deal giving them full access to the soundtrack when they sell their IP for a game.

I often hear music from various game in their trailer (the awesome Dawn of War 2 soundtrack is used quite often).

I was pretty surprised when they used the Mechanicus soundtrack for one of the AoS Goblin teasers. That didn't gel very well in my opinion. It sounded too techy. :p

The Mechanicus soundtrack is often employed while I am painting and this new transport is unlikely to be any different in this case. I hope it shows up in a few new rumour pictures if it's not going to be released soon. My curiousity must be sated! :D

I’d need to hunt for the quote but I thought Admech were getting a custodes style data sheets for the resin back catalog

Ha yes I remember this rumour.

I don't see why it wouldn't get a 40K port. Too much potential revenue not realized by having so many kits stuck in one rule set. It will happen eventually. GW accontomancers will make sure of that haha.

I do hope that the Transport release is done jointly with the Forge World Datasheets. That would be the ideal result

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Considering how long ago they first said we'd get the rules (somewhere 3 or 4 years ago), I won't hold my breath. All the time people promised FW to shower them in money the very second they released the rules, but still, nothing. I'm glad GW steps up and gets things done that FW seemingly can't.

Aye i thought that was cool too. Even from the art/the fact its only text language like in the game, it looks like they may well have just got the guys who did the game to put the whole thing together for them, which is very smart and shows they are putting more work into linking franchise elements together. Nice one GW.

But none of that matters cos...TRANSPORT!

Personally id prefer something ground based rather than a flier (but that's just down to personal taste).

A 40k version of the terrax or triaros would be fantastic.

Or they may do something similar to the sister rhino but perhaps with the chimera instead.

If it holds 12 models ill be perfectly happy. Anything above that and priests become real nasty, especially with stygies.

...sure that it will carry priests? So far, the video only calls it a skitarii transport. Skitarii and Cult were rolled into one codex, but there is still some distinction between the two, so I wouldn't take it for granted.

I really hope it does, if it doesn't it just means I don't have to buy any priests I suppose!

I do love the idea of mechanised Vanguard though, especially with a CC weapon, special pistol etc on the sergeant and 3 Plasma Calivers. Not having to hoof it means that's a GOOD amount of dakka.

Yeah, probably better to not cash out for priests while we don't know for sure.

Still, even at just skitarii...if they are reasonably cheap, and can be protected turn 1 by threat management, it means we finally get some actual footprint without dragoon spam or allied knights.

Skitarri only would be a deal breaker for me.

I’d just buy a drill. My lists use skitarii as screen so have no call for my screen to be on wheels.

Hopefully they do the smart thing and make it army wide that way those of us that were silly enough to buy 20+ priests can rejoice

For me it's the contrary - I don't have a single electro priest, I still dislike the aesthetics, and infiltrating/deep striking a single hard hitter unit has never been my style. Considering I play Raptors (RG successor) since 7th edition, I've had enough opportunities to do the latter, but still preferred not to.

But I do have (almost) enough skitarii - back in 7th, I would field 2000p mono skitarii, that was fun with Scout on everything. Now that they became so cheap, I stocked up a lot, and still have an indecent amount on sprue. They're cheap, considerably durable, hit hard and have buffs to make them quite devastating. What's not to like, except for the fact that it takes ages to paint them?

I don't care if it looks like a Jawa sandcrawler... i can always convert it, like we all do with the taurox!.

this will make me go back and finish painting the rest of my vanguard!! and actually decide on an army colour :biggrin.:

i started with mars and over time have ended up with Stygies VIII...(maybe that's cause black is cooler looking :cool.: )

Anyways, Praise the omnissiah   :laugh.: our metal feet will get some rest!!

I get what you are saying there, but im not sure we should read too much into it being a 'skitarii request' in the video. Far as I'm aware it'd be much more likely for skitarri to be petitioning for requisition of resource rather than priests etc. Im pretty sure the vid is put together by the guys who made the mechanicus game, and in that the ground troops are just always referred to as skitarri. Its also way quicker than writing 'adeptus mechanicus' every time :D

If our dexes were still seperate id be more worried, but for them to release a transport after this long/finally taking notice of requests, but then for some reason limit only half our infantry from riding in them....yeah I just dont see it atm.

What i do see is them limiting it to no allowing kataphrons to go in, similar to how the terrax does.

obviously not gonna run out and buy more priests until we know more though.... I'm already working on a squad of 12 converted from negavolt cultists and they've been happy enough footslogging the last couple games anyway. Them getting a transport without me having to shell out for the drill would be the cherry on the cake.

And, even if it was just skitarri, id still be happy, as this is still a huge boost for vanguard and to a lesser extent sicarians (ruststalkers definately).

Yeah, we'll see if they can just transport skitarii or not, there is no way to accurately speculate. E-priests are still on a size level that would make sense, otherwise the HQ priests would be useful to get them downrange. Kataphron are rather big, so those probably not - but we want them shooting anyway.

The thing that probably bugs me most about this hobby (especially in online communities) is that many people have expectations waaaay higher than GW could ever fulfill. Even when GW gives them something to work with, they complain because they expected even more, especially since the wishlist topics were so much more extensive. To quote a BT player about their new specialist detachment: "Too little, too late". So yeah, I prefer a more cautionary approach when discussing teased releases. Especially when it comes to investing into something that might become good with a nondescript unit that might come in the future - I've seen that locally quite a few times.

In the grim darkness of the near future, there is only complaints.

Haha aye totally get you on this, and always err on the side of caution with getting optimistic about exactly what a release will hold. I certianly never buy a model on the chance it MAY have certain rules!

The fact that theyve even acknowledged out lack of transport is good enough for me for now.

Ive still got 1000pts of admech to get painted in the meantime that are doing me proud without transports as it is. Once this thing drops, we'll see how that changes

If I were being picky I would hope for a transport that is cheap with a reasonable capacity like a Rhino, Trukk or Raider and then have rules for the Triaros as a durable elite transport. I am of course going to be happy with any transport unless the design is a complete disaster, but I believe GW are going to give us something good.

I'm planning on getting some Secutarii upgrade kits soon and I would like it for them to be able to request a taxi when they are finished.

For me the biggest part of this isn’t tactical but rather filling gaps we know must exist for the force narratively.

The Mechanicus needs to have ways of ferrying important troops and goods in an active war zone, needs to have ways on and off planet to their fleets, needs to have fighter craft. I like to get as much of that filled in as possible, and to build and paint it and play the narrative out.

That makes a great deal of sense. I haven't rolled dice in anger since before 8th edition dropped so the rules don't matter to me particularly. I just have a gut feeling that a transport vehicle specifically for Skitarii would be less robust than a vehicle designed to move Tech Priests of various types around. I recall the book Skitarius did mention dropships used by the Skitarii, though the only things I remember about them were that the Skitarii were packed in like sardines because personal space wasn't a priority for them and that they get shot to pieces if the Mechanicus forces don't have air superiority.

It still amuses me that the current background for the Skitarii is to just drop them on the other side of the planet and let them spend months marching toward the enemy. The Eldar would just die laughing as they hop in a Falcon and just hover outside weapons range for eternity. Besides, How do the Skitarii remain supplied while marching around like that? They would still need food/fuel to keep them in fighting condition. The sooner we get transports for our expendable assets brave soldiers the quicker that daft bit of lore can be scrubbed out. :D
