But still, it's BOLS. The way they blindly throw out rumors, I won't hold my breath for an updated codex, or for the transport to stick to this timetable.

 

The transport was already featured in the Regimental Standard. It won't be very long now...gotta do that manipulus until then...and remaining skitarii...and servitors...

While it should be a great opportunity to boost both the sales and in game efficiency of admech army for GW, I don't see them update the codex any time soon as it opens the doors of people complaining about all other underwhelming codice.

My guess: we'll just have the dual kit transport and the associated datasheets and points.

Two new units, once the Manipulus gets a separate release. Still nothing compared to the chaos release wave - Shadowspear, havocs/termies/disco guy/Abby/HQs/tacs and a campaign book.

 

Unless a similarly huge release wave were on its way (which I don't believe for a second), a new codex makes no sense at all. But that's Bols - their rumors have the accuracy of a drunk ork falling off a cliff trying to snipe a servo skull with a shotgun from a mile away. Still, chaos set the precedence of an updated/expanded codex, just mentioning new codices in rumors gets people excited...

We lack some substance for a new codex.

If we compare with the CSM codex 2.0, there was no real rule change to speak of, but there was a dozen or so changed/modified datasheets + the Dark Prayers and the Malefic Discipline.

Unless they actually revamp the army, what we have is like 2 two new datasheets? Not enough to justify a 2.0 version.

 

That said, I hope that they actually improve the army and release new units, the Mechanicus has been really lacking in 8th edition.

Yep, though it could have been worse. At least we've been getting a unit here and there, unlike most niche armies that didn't get anything for this entire edition. 2 specialist detachments, manipulus, transport, knights smaller and bigger (if you count them as AdMech too) and termite come to mind. Unlike let's say the local guys playing DE, GK, harlies amongst others, where I can't even say when they last got new stuff...

Just give us rules for FW units and be done with it I say :biggrin.:

Maybe next decade...they said for several years that it will be out in March, but never said which year's March. At least GW gives us some stuff every once in a while...

Atleast with all the slow releases we know we have someone in our corner at GW, we may not be the flashy new thing but we are not yet forgotten.

 

A new codex though? I think that would be a mistake, people are already weary of new codexes that are simple copy and paste. The Chaos one was the bare minimum needed for them to update without an outcry so if they tried that with us and two(maybe three with that single model from that unreleased game) new models, I do not think it would go down well at all.

 

I also agree with some people that say give us 30k but do not fill out our army with it. 40k is not 30k but 30k models are beautiful, please release them as relics like FW does now. I want 30k to be one or two centerpieces.

Well it would warrant an updated codex if we get hepheston (heavy skitarii) dual kit (the weapon sketches mentioned them) and say an extra character. 

 

Edit: also worth pointing out the digital codexes get updated for free (my chaos codex got updated to the new one when it was released and I didn't have to pay a penny).

Also, there are new models in Combat Arena game, some small character and servitor with grav cannon and hydraulic claw

So there could be AdMech specific plastic servitors (current servitors is our single codex entry with oldsculpt finecast/metal models, even borrowed from SM army complete with SM-related guns) coming?

I'm crossing my mechadendrites for the heavy Skitarii and some new improved servitors, but on the other hand I don't really want to wait long for the Skorpius. I'm quite conflicted about this now.

I agree with a lot of what’s been said above. Unless we get more new units than a HQ and transport, I can’t see us getting a new codex. We don’t even have the fact that it was an early one and needs the relics etc looking at, like the CSM one did.

While a new codex right now might seem very implausible, and I agree, remember that GW is done rebooting the entire range of codex now and the CSM Mk.II update shows that they're completely ready to start updating the range of books. What I'm getting at is that it might not be immediate but it's only a matter of time now, and given the new'ish-and-growing nature of the AdMech faction I can see the update being very robust since the selection in the current codex is still quite thin compared to many other factions. It might still be a while, but I can't wait for it to really happen, and with the fact that we keep getting drip-fed updates maybe it will be sooner than expected. GW does keep blindsiding the community with rather unexpected releases lately.

I've just had a moment of Fridge Logic about the new vehicle we are expecting. The Adeptus Mechanicus would be shipping their armed forces anywhere to serve their own interests, but it seems to me that the vehicle would only work on planets with a relatively thick atmosphere. Would they even have worked on Mars considering the state of that planet's atmosphere? I recall Mars was terraformed once but would that have made any difference to the performance of a hovercraft?

 

I suppose what I'm getting at is before the tech priests send their forces off to fight to defend some airless asteroid mining base, would the design even have worked on the planet where the design most likely came from?

I think it's meant to be a 'hover craft' in silhouette and general function only, but not in the actual mechanism that creates the lift. It's actually how I picture many of the technologies utilized by the AdMech; form does not always follow function (a craft that looks like a low-tech hover craft that's actually utilizing rather advanced tech) and sometimes it literally does but in an esoteric way (a set of mundane keys that don't use the mechanical key shape to operate a lock, but encryption technology built into the key form does unlock certain barriers that may-or-may-not even resemble an actual lock).

Obviously it uses arecheotech artificial atmosphere thickener or thinner depending on atmospheric conditions. Either at a macro scale, I.e terraform the planet prior to invasion... the real admech way of solving small problems. Or at a micro scale between the skirt and the craft. Even better these craft are actually age of technology repurposed atmospheric terraform engines (the fans) being accidentally misused in an archaic hovercraft design with the terraform setting set to the perfect atmospheric conditions for hovercraft by sheer coincidence. Unfortunately they emit deadly pollutants that slowly make planets uninhabitable over prolonged use.

 

Man I love this faction.

The omnissiah wills it to work. As such it is so. Any techpriests refuting this logic should report to their nearest magos for.....reassurance.

This is clearly the best subforum based on those last few posts. :D I agree that the Adeptus Mechanicus have a tendency to massively over complicate things that should be relatively straightforward. It's why I like the faction in the first place.

 

I suppose it's something that affects almost all aircraft in 40k too. They all look like atmospheric jet fighters but I think that only the Forge World ones like the Thunderbolt mention using rocket engines to get into orbit. It's not exactly a problem, I can easily imagine Eldar fliers switch to void propulsion when they need to but it just show a bias we Earth-dwellers have in this setting. 

 

In short I think I'm just letting my mind wander while I wait for the ETL to start. :p

Should we start a separate thread for discussing the updated codex rumours?

 

One thing I’d expect from a codex update would be a Mechanicus Noctilith terrain piece now that Chaos have one. Something to nudge the Forgebane plot arc forward and a possible anti-psyker defence.

 

I also hope we will get a dedicated flyer though two big vehicle kits in one release seems less likely, so we might end up waiting an edition for our flyer.

Perhaps some kind of servitor-piloted gunship with a large Data Tether bubble to support ground units? I'd expect the aircraft to be used to maintain links to the controlling Tech Priests after all. An air-to-air interceptor would be a nice dual-build. I'm not sure if you'd agree with such ideas but I think they would probably be the most fitting for our faction considering the old Doctrina Imprative background I think an aircraft that reinforces such links would be appropriate.

Yeah, I'd love a VIP/comand and control flyer. Some sort of dune copter type thing that can transport a Dominus (extending his aura) and covered in scanners data tethers and canticle broadcasters. Something that has as much of a day to day use as a military one: transport between forges, prospecting, delivery to archeotech dig sites that sort of thing. 

 

I'm really hopping the next releases ramp up the Archeotech/explorator/data gathering aspect of the admech (eg: lots of stratagems around objectives, mission information gathering). I'd love to see our units get more efficient over the course of a game as they gather more data about their opponents. First time you shoot an enemy unit you don't have any modifiers, but after each interaction you get bonuses, that sort of thing. Or defensively each time your opponent shoots you you get more modifiers as you analyse their tactics. The Mechanics game did an awesome job at capturing this part of the admech theme mechanically.
