Kratos tank and Stegodon transport references?

Recommended Posts

They do this from time to time. I think there's a reference in one of the other books to a Hephaestus-Pattern Spartan Transport or something like that. It's just the writers sowing seeds of potential future releases while world building etc.

Cool, but this is rather overt Kratos was not mentioned in Fear to Tread, well I can't remember, but is everywhere in Malevolence.

Anyway more tanks is good, but give me a model for the original stormbird in Horus Rising, not a bastardized thunderhawk.

The thing is, Fear to Tread was released in 2012 and Malevolence just a few months ago. So, things change and stuff always gets added in some way to add to the background fluff of the setting (notice that prior to Malevolence, Crimson Paladins and Dawnbreakers didnt exist in BA fluff up to this point).

For the Stormbird, it comes down to a few things, one being that of practicality.

A Warlord titan is huge but its footprint is rather small due to it being bipedal. A Sokar-Pattern Stormbird or Tau manta, on the other hand, almost take up the entirety of a 2'x2' tile on their own despite being smaller models.

Also, currently, all the Black Books contain mentions to things that have no, or will never get, a model. So this isn't anything new.

Not the first time writers include new names for fluff's sake, there was once a turtigon transport mentioned in one book.

If you look at the malevolence display it's a microcosm of the campaign map with the high ground to the right qnd the forests to the left

The rules allowing you to take Baal Predators, despite the STC not existing in the fluff at this point, just reflect the greater willingness of the pre-Heresy Imperium to actually develop technology and design variants IMO

On a tangent, but pretty sure they get a mention in No Know Fear?

Yeah, but no FW model yet.

Just noticed them in the custodes list.  So give me Stormbird rules.

I’m kind of sad there is no mention of the Baal Predator

I don't think it exists yet as an STC.

However the rules let you make it anyway.

Indeed, Baal Pattern features the Lucifer engines combo'd with the assault cannon turret, with the STC for the former recovered shortly post heresy, I believe.

I find it strange that FW can/does mention stuff that doesn't have a model yet, while GW as a whole cannot/will not due to the Chapterhouse case.

I do like that they add some things that we just don't know about - world building indeed.

Oh. Kratos/Spartan just clicked. Derp.

40k is stupid sometimes why do the need an stc for putting different guns ine a turret. Its not as if they are an esoteric weapon from the dark age.

Because they do not invent new things and are obsessed with making things exactly as they were designed during the DAoT, is the lore excuse. Real world it is a means to prevent balancing a game.

You need an STC for it precisely because 40k is stupid. Like people that insist on sticking with physical format music, the mechanicum are paranoid, reverential and backward thinking. They're custodians of technology they don't understand and cannot replicate.

Seeing vehicles referenced in the Black Books that have no corresponding model/art isn't unprecedented. The example that stands out to me the most is the Mauler tank.

That said, I was surprised to see how big of a role the Kratos tank had in Malevolence. It sounded like it was one of the few unambiguously successful parts of the BA's plan. I wonder if the FW design team have some sketches of it banging around in a drawer somewhere.

I love it when they do this kind of stuff, it definitely gets my imagination going. Is there a list anywhere of vehicles FW has mentioned without any corresponding miniature or art? I've had an idea rolling around in my head for an almost super heavy legion assault tank (something akin to a Legion style Malcador) and would like to base it in one of these obscure lore references. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears!

Oh, for whatever I reason I thought it was discovered preheresy. It was uncovered while fighting an arch-techno-heretic in the early days of the crusade.

Yup, just looked again. It was discovered in the early great crusade.

Which source states this? Also, mistakes, unreliable records and narrators, as well as FW being willing to change up most things that aren't fundamental, and ignore other parts of the lore, there's no real correct answer to this, other than whatever the source you have to hand tells you is correct, only in the context of this source, subject to newer narratives usually superceding older sources.

I can think of another, a Knight-Aucteller mentioned in Book 4.

I'm not completely sure, but I think the Aucteller is a rank in a knight household, rather than a knight chassis (it might be one of the ranks you can give in the knight list to change their org chart status). Edited by Elzender
