"Apocalypse" using Titanicus models?

Recommended Posts

Right, so, I had an interesting idea on the way home from the dollar store today. I was thinking one could scale down the 40k Titan and Knight rules for use on Titanicus models, to reduce costs on Titan/Knight Apocalypse games to something borderline... dare I say it... affordable. It'd just require reducing ranges and movement distances to match the scale of the models, which would require a unified reference point. I figure it'd work for practically any part of any model, but I figure a weapon on a Knight, say, a Reaper Chainsword, would suffice. Thoughts?

Yeah, rules for Titanicus are great. Rules for 40k beyond a singular infantry company are bleh. Playing AT will be more satisfactory.

But just as an idea, sure. As the miniatures are roughly 1/4 in scale, you could just use centimeters instead of inches for all ranges (or first halve everything and use that value in cm to get 1/5 conversion factor) and go with that. Using 6'x4' tables would actually mean something for maneuver then. I'd still recommend dumping the IGOUGO turn structure and using some variation of AAs for that clash, because that's the part that breaks 40k the most, especially in bigger games with bigger toys. I favour something like Bolt Action's blind draw system, it's very easy to implement to 40k and makes the playing experience just flat out better.

Also, houserule something for Void Shields because they just need a rewrite in 8th edition. Just make them ablative wounds for the enemy to chew through or at least something like Disgusting Resilience, now they are just a sad joke that bears no resemblance to their fluff.

I know, I just made myself giggle.

Seriously though if you search there's a TON of 40k models out there you can 3d print at roughly 20% scale to work with AT then cut all the ranges by about 1/4.  Since most ranges tend to be multiples of 6 you might cut them by about 1/3.

  • 2 weeks later...

There are multiple groups working house rules for infantry, tanks, super heavies etc for AT.  The reddit group has at least 3 solid versions and I think the facebook group has one as well.

If anything, using AT Titan rules for the god engines in 40k is a better idea.  I brought my Warlord to AdeptiCon and there was a 40k scale Adeptus Titanicus game one evening and it was AWESOME.  I'm not sure the right conversion from AT strength/damage to 40k but seriously, if a titan is killing enemy infantry and not enemy titans it is doing it wrong... and visa versa... so having a titan battle raging with infantry fighting under / around them sounds great.

Maybe make all the "missed" titan shots act like the orbital bombardment type stratagems on units under the templates?
