Hello there

With the release of Book VIII I'm finally able to play the army I've always been wanting to play, the Blood Angels. It's been a while since I've played but I built that list up. Counting on you for some help, especially about the HQs and options for troops, in order to get back in the Heresy train after all these years!

HQ
    Legion Centurion  : 130 pts
        - Centurion - Primus medicae
        - Legion Terminator Centurion :  Cataphractii pattern terminator armour

    Legion Centurion  : 125 pts
        - Jump pack, Artificer Armour
        - Centurion - Master of signal

TROOPS
    [bA] Dawnbreaker Cohort (10) : 445 pts
        - Melta-bombs
        - Dawnbreaker Champion

    Legion Assault Squad (10) : 190 pts
        - Melta-bombs
        - Sergeant :  Artificer Armour

    Legion Assault Squad (10) : 190 pts

        - Sergeant :  Artificer Armour

ELITE
    [bA] Crimson Paladins (5) : 286 pts
        - 4 [bA] Equinox power blade
        - Crimson Exemplar :  [bA] Blade of Perdition, Grenade Harness

SUPPORT
Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnought Talon  : 410 pts
        - 2 Cyclonic melta lance

LORD OF WAR
    [Warlord]
    [bA] Sanguinius  : 485 pts
        - [bA] The Spear of Telesto and Moonsilver Blade

Total : 2496 points

I've tried to maximise the effects of the Rite of War so the idea is place the whole army (if it's still possible ?) in reserve T1, let the adversary begin and hit hard with deep strike everywhere.

Sanguinius will join the Dawnbreakers to avoid scatter ; and the Master of Signal is here to avoid the Crimson Paladins to scatter as well. Not quite sure he can get the Deep Strike rule though...

I tried to give as much anti tank firepower as possible with melta bombs and the Leviathan.

What do you think about it ?

Hello there and welcome back :)

Couple of things.

HQs

First to run the Day of Revelation Rite of War (which is what I assume you're trying to do here) you need a Praetor or a Delegatus with a Jump pack. The two you have up there are support HQs, meaning even if you weren't running a rite of war, you would not be able to use them as your main HQ. And if you want to use the Master of Signals only to prevent the crimson paladins from scattering, then I'd much rather take a dreadclaw for 10 points less. Id also take a Damocles Command Rhino since that thing is absolutely amazing for Day of Revelation. The no scatter bubble makes everything so much easier. The Cataphractii Primus medicae with the Crimson Paladins is a great idea since its kinda hard to have their unit Feel no Pain go off, but with a Medicae there that should take care of that (not to mention that -1 on the enemies Strength means that Powerfists wont Instant Death them and actually allow them to take a Feel No Pain).

When it comes to the troops, the assault squads are 235 points each, not 190. Melta bombs are fantastic, but I'd also give the sgt a power axe, and preferably at least another marine one as well. Personally I'd expand the squads to 15 if you have the points to spare and hook them up with an Apothecary each, but that's just me.

The Contemptor-Incaendius is very cool, but I would leave off the assault cannons since hes going to spend the most of his time in close combat. I'd also give him one dread close combat weapon so he can use both.

Finally the Leviathan.

Definitely replace one of the melta lances with a drill. If you're going to be dropping him with a pod, you want to give him some close combat capability, otherwise your opponent can easily tie him up for the rest of the game with a basic tactical squad while he struggles to kick them to death, or hes going to get eaten by something that can damage armour in CC. I'd also give him armoured ceramite since he's going to be up close, and melta can weck anybody's day (dont forget tho, melta bombs arent actually melta so armoured ceramite wont work against it. Finally, phospex is amazing. I take it every time on my Levi and plan on taking it.

Nah, it isn't better per se, but has the potential to be better depending on the situation.

DoR is much, much more versatile.

Drop Assault Vanguard:

- DS turn 1.

- Only Snap Shots, but only counts for units within 12''.

- Gain Hit & Run (Which is huge, of course).

- Only works on Assault Squads (not Dawnbreakers etc.) !!

- The limitations are much more specific, forcing your army build into a very specialised and less flexible direction.

Day of Reckoning:

- DS turn 1.

- Gain a 5+ cover save.

- Works on all jump infantry units !

- Gain Pinning and +1 Initiative (not as good as Hit and Run, but good non the less).

- The limitations are not as narrow, allowing for a much, much broader range of possible army builds.

As it is, DoR is possibly one of the strongest RoW out there at the time being.

There, comes down to 2.410 pts.

Personally, I'd downsize the Dawnbreakers and Paladins by 1 model each, giving you back roughly 70 pts. and would then add a third scoring unit to ride in the Damocles (transport capacity six), because two scoring units in 2.500 pts. is not much at all !
