Levi's Kill Team Blog - Current team: Tau

Recommended Posts

Guess who's back?!

Hello brothers and sisters! It's been a while but I'm back in the swing of things. This time with some kill team projects!

Kill Team is absolutely fantastic for a hobby butterfly like me. Small teams with lots of conversion possibilities! I'm currently working on a Tau and Eldar kill team and already finished some Necrons. There are more ideas in the works, can't go without a Space Marine kill team and maybe some..... heretics?! :ph34r.:

No blog without pictures of course, so first off, the completed Necrons:

The flayed ones were custom made with Warriors, green stuff and Skeleton warrior swords. The highlights on the black armour are much more subdued in real life though.

On the working table Eldar and Tau:

Stay tuned for more updates and let me know what you think!

Despite my hatred for Necrons being more intense than 1000 exploding sons, the models are fantastic. The glowing blue on them really offsets and breaks up all the gun metal and green.

Really nice job on the Eldar and Tau as well. I look forward to seeing these expand.

Awesome to see you back!

The kill teams are looking great. Necrons are excellent and I also love the flayed ones. Really good work on those guys as they are suitably standby and creepy. The Eldar and Tau also look off to a fantastic start.

Thank you so much guys! It's good to be back :biggrin.:

Okay today's update is not all that exciting but the drones are on the production line so to speak.

No Tau team without a couple of drones I suppose. Ho boy, my friends are gonna hate me :biggrin.:

I'm also working on a Tau team list for Kill Team Arena and I'm debating on taking a few Breachers but heard mixed things about them. Maybe I'll give them a whirl just to see how they perform.

Anyway, enjoy!

Drones are looking great. Paint jobs are clean and crisp. I especially like the frehanded, darker blue markings and the white trim. What/how did you use to paint the white?

So! The drones are finished and working at the bases atm. While they were fun to paint, I'm glad that these guys are done so the focus can be on the specialist.

There's still one drone to do, the recon drone but will do that one later. Characters first! :D

Enjoy!

One last round of drones, now with basing! :biggrin.:

Pretty happy how these came out. The white trim is a great addition and the blue markings keep them from looking bland.

Now on to the next part of the team.; the leader. A stealth battlesuit equipped with a burstcannon. He's magnetized so I can swap the weaponry if the need arises. :biggrin.:

To make him more interesting, I was thinking of putting some camouflage on him. I'm thinking of Fenrisian grey as base and then add some blue (Caledor Sky?) and dark brown patterns.

I've already painted the armour (minus the highlights) and now it's time for the camo! :ph34r.:

After some trial and error with smaller sized patterns and different colours, I'm finally pleased with the result. My first plan was to use some blue's and browns but that didn't work with the teal/blue markings all that well. So the best bet was to go with a much darker Fenrisian Grey; the Fang. Black is a returning feature on the model and the rest of the team, so I went with that instead of brown. It makes for a more urban style camouflage which works well as I imaged them doing a campaign in a ruined Imperial city.

Now I gotta do the details and highlight the black, so this model will be done soon :)

Thanks for the comments guys!

Ok, here we go. The leader of the team is finished! Very pleased with the end result and the camo especially.

Have some pics of the finished model and we'll talk about what's next for the T'au.

It's ETL time and I'm supporting T'au this year (please forgive me my Blood Angels ). This will be the first vow (not sure what the second will be as of yet):

At this point the Breachers, Pathfinders and commander are undercoated and ready to go. I'll be painting the Pathfinders first and then work up to the breachers and the commander last, as a reward for painting troops so to speak.

Thanks Hush! I almost had sleepless nights over it. The first attempted made it look like a weird coloured panther at a distance  and the model looked very busy and was hard to read. Bigger camo patterns made it so much better and with these colours it still fits with the rest of the T’au :D Edited by Leviathus

The first ETL vow is in progress! I'm doing it in chunks for my sanity, so the Pathfinders are first.

I changed the recipe for the T'au skin to make it stand out more (for the test I used almost similar colours as the armour). This especially works better with characters without a helmet.

I've been away from this hobby for several months and I'm noticing that the paint gets a bit chalky here and there (with these photos it is more noticeable) so I really need to water down my paints better and be careful not to slap it on so thickly. Anyway, that's more a note-to-self :biggrin.:

Had fun painting these and can't wait to get started on the Breacher team!
