Anyone use index librarians? SS + stave combo?

I don't see anyone using them these days.

I can see why you wouldn't use them simply because of the single use powers this edition.

 

But using the index data sheet, can still take a storm shield and warding stave can't he? Meaning a 2++ combat tank? Or did the faq change this too?

This also leaves me to question another scenario.

 

If a model with a native 4++ has a stave, he only gets the 3++ in combat. So say I use sanctuary before combat, giving me a 3++, then the stave kicks in after giving me the 2++.

But this then cannot be done again once actually IN combat because the stave is now working and sanctuary doesn't improve beyond 3++.

Being 2++ alone doesn't give much by itself. Librarian will still be weak in close combat with only 3 attacks, susceptible to mortal wounds and won't be giving anything to an army of psykers.

 

And it will almost certainly be FAQed by GW, when they notice a staff can still give 2++.
