Kill Team as a good place to play Deathwing

So, I know KILL TEAM has its own subforum, but since this pertains directly to the Deathwing, I figure it can be discussed here as well.

In that spirit, have you gyus given a look at how the Deathwing can fit inside of a Kill Team? Because, even if points don't really look that they allow a full squad of 5 terminators at once (which is a shame) unless you go into Commander-level points for a list, they still seem like they can be used to great effect in this format.

I already plan on adding one (and only one, saddly) Deathwing Terminator to my "Tactical Team", as a heavy gunner. With an assault cannon, to replace my heavy bolter gunner, as a way of dealing with hordes. High armor, high rate of fire, and high strength. Looks like he will be a good addition.

In fact, even Veterans might have their place now, with Kill Team making pretty good use of them! They allow us to bring in Plasma Cannons, and make some pretty good melee combatants, without needing to dip into Primaris units.

What are your thoughts?

The Kill Team lists for elties are at either 125 points for regular lists, or 200 points for lists that include commanders as well, all depending on the scenario you play.

As it stands, with terminators costing 31 points a piece on average, its hard to fit more than one or two along other units, or at most 4 with barebones gear if you go full Deathwing. But, still, it is a pretty good thing to be able to use them in a format that can actually make good use of them.

The problem about DW in KT Is that they are not DW

No DW special rules, no DW wargear but the plasma cannon

You cannot have DW champion with halberd, no DW apothecary, no DW ancient, CML DW cannot have TH/SS or 2xLC

They are regular Termies with greenwing rules and added plasma cannon as Heavy weapon

Very dissapointing

I wouldn't call this dissapointing. With rerolls 1s to hit (basically, sniper specialist for everyone) they are better than most termies, and lack of DW characters isn't a big deal. IIRC Blood Angels didn't get Sanguinary Guard or Death Company, and vanilla marines can't take Honor Guard, so I can't say that DA are in such a bad spot in KT tbh.

At least I have an excuse to take plasma cannon termnator now :D

I've been tinkering a lot with the kill team units.

I have found it hard to fit that many terminators, and I do think they might be kind of less than useful if they are just going in with fists and storm bolters. But, veterans have a lot of promise I think. For 98 points you could fit 4 combi plasmas and a plasma cannon, with a team of 5 veterans; and you'd still have 27-102 points free for more units.

Now, the thing is, with this new units, you can open up a really heavy hitting team at 125 points. If you want to go full heavy damage, I mean.

Picture this: For a 125 points, you could lead up with an intercessor with an Auspex, and add a Sniper Veteran with a Plasma Cannon, a Heavy Terminator with an Assault Cannon, Comms Gunner with a Missile Launcher, a Scout with a Heavy Bolter, and another Scout but with a Missile Launcher. That is a total of 5 heavy weapons, with auspex and comms to buff them, in a single team

Going with terminators, I think you could at most fit a couple, and keep the team numerous and mobile enough to not get overrun by your enemy. Still, a heavy weapons terminator and a guy with hammer and shield, could work really well. You could even use a DW Knight model to represent the melee terminator, and it would look amazing on the board.

So, lets see how veterands and terminators go into this new set of rules. I'll try these guys against some Heretics later today. I think the DW and the Veterans can finally be dusted off and brought down from the shelf, to see some serious action.

So, I tried this team against a DG one, which was led by a Blightlord Terminator, and was composed of 6 additional Plague Marines. Mostly geared for melee, with some blight launchers for good meassure.

We locked in combat turn 1, with my Veteran Sgt and my Combat Terminator charging in the cluster of melee specialist heretics; while my plasma and assault cannon handled the blight launchers.

We spent 3 rounds locked in combat, with my storm shields being well worth their cost. In the end, all but two of his team were left standing, and all I had was a couple of flesh wounds.

Turn four ended with board control on my side, and a swift victory.

It was a GOOD day.
