Black Cog Project: Soulsteel Brotherhood - Demiurg/Primaris

Recommended Posts

Hello,

For the past year, I've planned a very large Imperial Soup army named the Black Cog. With 50+ pages of fluff already written, they have quite a complex backstory, but to give you the short version, they are an old-Mechanicum loyalist nomad fleet, at war with both the Imperium and its close-minded Adeptus Mechanicus, as well as with the Dark Mechanicus and its reckless use of Warp technologies.

The Black Cog has (relatively) recently allied with some Demiurg Brotherhoods, the most important of which is the Soulsteel Brotherhood. After an especially daring raid on an Adeptus Mechanicus ForgeWorld, they captured the blueprints for Primaris equipment. Hence an elite corps of Demiurgs were born, the Quicksilver Orbital Paladins.

Most of the Quicksilver infantry fight inside battlesuits variants of the Astartes Mark X armor.
The crew of the vehicles, however, still use standard full armor.

If allowed, this topic will be devoted to this Primaris / Kharadron conversion project.

Indeed the shields are from the Ironbreakers box ! Good eye.

The heads, however, come from the Grundstok Thunderers box. So, by the way, is the body of the pilot of the Dreadnought and the tank commander.

I'm actually glad there is a club of 40k Dwarves enthusiasts. Your Mechanicus Dwarves look great! Hopefully mine can keep up :-)

Ah, I see, from the pictures the heads, especially the beards, looked to organic to me to be from the Kharadron line. But as I have not really handled the new dwarfs (Kharadron or Fyreslayer) as they feel to different from the Fantasy in body shape (bigger, fatter, limb proportioned on the freyslayers and so on) I am not that familiar with them

I would not say that there is anything as organized as a club per say, but I have seen some others doing such conversions from time to time.

There is this thread by Hensarita that you might want to look at:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355351-the-deathwatch-squat-project/

As for my Dwarf, I did actually start painting them shortly after I took the pictures I haven’t preceded much further then the undercoat and first colour. The completed test models look great up close (by my standards) but from a distance on the table it all rather merged into a general blur. As such they have lain unused since mid 7th edition (roughly).

That said the new Mech tank previewed is likely to stir me back into working on them.

Any, enough of my ramblings, good luck with your project and keep us updated.

Cause it's awesome

@Trokair Thanks, I'll be sure to post the rest here !
These DeathWatch Dwarves look also great. He had a good idea on how to close the cockpit better, wish I saw his pics earlier ahah.
Looking forward to see your Dwarf Hovercraft! I'll personnaly convert it with Dunecrawler legs in order to go with my Mechanicum army.

@Triszin Unfortunately no, the double gatling is not legal ! I just thought it would look good. Thanks for the compliment!
I'll use it as a dread with both Onslaught gatling (large and small) and an Icarus pod.

The main Demiurg force is well underway. I'll keep the huge Astraeus conversion for later, and might add some Centurions down the line. Here is what will be in the first battalion:

"Basic" conversions:
Gravis Captain w/ Kharadron head
2 Primaris Lieutenants w/ Kharadron heads
15 Intercessors w/ Kharadron heads
10 Hellblasters w/ Kharadron heads
3 bolter Inceptors w/ Kharadron heads
Primaris Ancient w/ Kharadron head and Demiurg flag

"Large" conversions:
6 Aggressors w/ KO heads, special gatling wrist weapons, and special lascanon/gatling shoulder weapons
3 Inceptors w/ KO heads, Sequitor shields and runic Space Wolves hammers, count as captain terminators
Vanguard Librarian w/ Grungsson's head, lots of work on this one
Custodes Shieldcaptain w/ KO head on jetbike with Grungsson's 'jetpack' at the back of the bike

"Very large" conversions:
Redemptor Dreadnought with Kharadron pilot, double gatling, dereodo rocket pod, dunecrawler legs, ironbreakers shields
Redemptor tank with Astraeus turret, Cogsmith as a tank commander, ironbreaker shields, lots of dwarven bits
Infiltrator sergeant w/ KO heads, talking to an helmetless Demiurg commander through holocomm (commander's head is a Cogsmith's)

More news !

Two little explanations:

1) The Librarian will have another, better fitting head. Spoiler: it'll be a hat-tipper.

2) The infiltrator sergeant (count as lieutenant) is in holographic communication with the tactical commander. While all Demiurgs are in full armor, ready to fight in the vacuum of space, this holographic commander will be the only one without a helmet. This is to show the fact that he gives order from his ship in orbit.

Thank you good sir!

Very excited to see this 18 months project conclude. There have been quite some delay, but it has allowed to create a deep fluffy background, and to prepare conversions for every single model of this 6000+ points imperial soup :-)

Hopefully the whole army will look great on the tabletop!

Excellent work on the Siege Walker. Is it meant to be a Space Marine Dreadnought (the Redemptor's torso and arms are still recognizable), a vehicle (as the Centurion warsuit is classified), or a war robot?

Thank you Bjorn !

Rulewise I will use it as a Redemptor Dreadnought to go along my other converted Primaris.

Fluffwise it is a vehicle, and more specifically a battlesuit, just as the T'au mechs.

Basically, they are one-pilot combat vehicles, so I guess you could call it a warsuit, just as the Centurion.

However, since it is T'au technology that has been applied, I prefer to call them battlesuits.

There are five other battlesuits in production for my soup army:

- Two "count-as Las Mortis Contemptors" : Kastelans with a Grundstok pilot inside, and twin contemptor lascannons

- One "count-as Storm Cannon Leviathan" : Leviathan body with a Grundstok pilot inside, and Telemon Arachnus storm cannon

- Two "count-as Armiger Knights" : Heavy conversion between an Armiger, a Dreadknight, an Imperial Sentinel and a Ghostkeel. Both Armigers are magnetized to be either Helverins (with twin heavy gatling) or Armigers (with Dreadknight sword and Ghostkeel ion accelerator). Note that the Armigers are piloted by Mechanicum Secutarii, so they are not part of the Steelsoul Brotherhood, though they are still part of the Black Cog.

There will be more Imperial Knights, but they are entirely piloted by an autonomous unshackled Machine Spirit, so they don't count as battlesuits.

Primaris Squats, so basically big squats ?!? :biggrin.:

Hahahah pretty much ! Though they are not Squats but Demiurgs... So basically Fulliurgs ?

Hello guys !

After a long pause this summer, this project is back on track and at full speed.

My original painter, for personal reasons, kinda abandoned this very large project. While I try to find a way to get my finished miniatures, I now work with a second painter to progress on other things in the meantime.

Here are some heroes (some old but reworked, some entirely new), as well as a work-in-progress on few count-as Contemptors, as well as a count-as Leviathan.

Do note that the Contemptors are still at a very early stage, as we try to find a good balance between Dwarf style (heavy platforms, heavier guns) and Primaris aesthetics, so it is still easy to recognize what these mechs are.

Right now, this is the plan for the army:

"Basic" conversions:

Gravis Captain w/ Kharadron head

Phobos captain w/ Kharadron head

2 Primaris Lieutenants w/ Kharadron heads

35 Intercessors w/ Kharadron heads (15 bolt rifles, 20 stalkers)

10 Hellblasters w/ Kharadron heads

3 bolter Inceptors w/ Kharadron heads

Primaris Ancient w/ Kharadron head and Demiurg flag

Infiltrator sergeant w/ KO heads, talking to an helmetless Demiurg commander through holocomm (commander's head is a Cogsmith's)

3 Tarantula turrets with Kharadron crew

"Large" conversions:

6 Aggressors w/ KO heads, special gatling wrist weapons, and special lascanon/gatling shoulder weapons

3 Grundstok Gunhaulers with antigrav reactor (or other propulsion means, work-in-progress), count-as assault bikes (or Land Speeder?)

3 Inceptors w/ KO heads, Sequitor shields and runic Space Wolves hammers, count-as captain terminators

Leviathan Dreadnought with Kharadron pilot, Necron Triarch legs, Arkanaut Ironclad turret, lots of dwarven bits everywhere, two Irondrakes on the base

Invictor Warsuit with Kharadron pilot, Galatus sword&shield, Ghostkeel reactor and bits

2 Kastellan with [weapons to be defined, test in progress], count-as Venerable Dreadnought / Contemptor Dreadnought

2 Galatus with Contemptor-class twin lascannons, Kharadron bits for the turret, count-as Mortis Contemptor

2 Telemon with Kharadron pilot, Deredeo-class autocannons and plasma cannonade, count-as Deredeo

Repulsor tank with Astraeus turret, Cogsmith as a tank commander, ironbreaker shields, lots of dwarven bits

Repulsor tank with the upper body of a Deredeo, plus four Deredeo-class lascannons

Astraeus tank with Ta'unar body, two Ta'unar railgun, Hydra AA battery, many turrets, full Kharadron crew, and overall just a beast

Hello guys!

After quite a break, here are some news on the army. It has progressed quite a bit, despite some delay.

I've recently taken some pictures, hope you like them.

1 Knight Gallant (Cuirassier G.O.L.E.M.) PNG

2 Redemptor (Avalanche Siege Walker) PNG

3 Leviathan (Torrent Heavy Siege Walker) PNG lowres

4 Repulsor (Ironcloud Droptank) PNG

5 Invictor (Crystalstreamer Light Skirmisher Walker) PNG lowres

6 Landspeeders (Snowblind Escort Fighters) PNG

7 Mortis Contemptor (Landslider Artillery Walker) PNG lowres

8 Command Echelon PNG lowres

9 Intercessors (Peakguards) PNG lowres

Right now, this is about 60% of the total force. Still have three more dreadnoughts, a dozen of robot-drones (30k mechanicum conversions), some more artillery and heavy infantry, and of course the massive Astraeus conversion.

Thanks in advance for telling me what you think!

PS: Since the quality of the images through hosting them here is not so good, here is a link to see an online album with higher resolution: https://www.flickr.com/photos/186077473@N07/49860102472/in/album-72157714180815287/
