The_Bloody's Unforgiven

I've been playing and collecting Dark Angels for a decade (I started them in 2009, so I'm receiving my service stud this year!), but in the last five years or so I've been playing mainly the Horus Heresy. This left my quite vast collection of Unforgiven in various states of unpaintedness... well, things are about to change, and my group is starting to dip its toes in 8th edition.

Over the years, I have stored a full classic marine company, 30+ terminators, and at least 1x of all the Ravenwing units, although the latter has never been my focus.

I don't know if I'll ever paint all of this stuff, but for the moment, I'm going to put together a 50 PL army for open war/narrative gaming. This starting force is going to be a combined arms detachment, and I plan to include greenwing, Deathwing and Ravenwing all together.

I also have some primaris incoming, but I'm not sure if I want to integrate them in my "classic" (is it classic now?) Dark Angels army or if I'd rather keep them separate.

To test the waters for this second solution, I painted a Guardian of the Covenant:

My Heresy era Dark Angels were originally posted here, but they may as well be finding a new home in this topic when I'll get around to take some updated photos.

Cheers! :smile.:

He looks awesome! :)

My only comment would be (since this is a test mini and I assume you're looking to finalise the scheme) to add some more red in the details. Right now he looks very monochromatic.

Maybe it's the picture that does not allow the chest eagle or the wings in the right leg to pop, but as primaries lack robes, and entire force of them might look more akin to Grey Knights (visually) than Unforgiven.

A suggestion would be to go red on the helmet sword, the eye lenses, possibly the shoulder shield or even the casing of the bolt pistol...

Technique-wise it's great and the base looks the part! :tu:

why not using the 30k models for 40k?

Well, because I have a lot of unpainted 40k minis, and putting them to use is kind of the point! :D

Thank you!

I tried to give him some interesting details, but I agree that he needs some more pop. Red robes would help a lot, I'm sure, but I still can't see them on my Primaris. I don't trust them enough

Good call on the helm, shield and the bolter casing! Those would be easy fixes, although I would be somewhat reluctant to change the latter, since black is an awesome background for scribbiling.

if i were to start anew, i would mainly use 30k models (mk3) because the classic models are a bit boring to me (after seeing 30k stuff). but thats just my experience so go ahed!

as for your test mini. i would add more coloured details (head / backpack) to brake up the silver. nontheless it looks really good.
