The Spectre Syndicate - My First Delaque Gang

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just getting into Necromunda after having the latest rulebook and gangs of the underhive book for months! I was instantly drawn to Delaque after seeing the models and bought the box, dice and cards as soon as they came out. This thread will be a sort of journey and work in progress of my gang as I play games and paint and model them. I don't have individual names and a background story yet but I've settled on the gang name being The Spectre Syndicate.

So far I've built my leader, champions and some gangers and just finished their bases last night. I just completely went with rule of cool over optimal weapon load outs as we intend to play for the fun and narrative! Colour scheme wise I'm planning to go for incubi darkness robes and cold colour metals and blue steels etc.

Anyway here is where I am so far:

Leader - Flechette pistol, Power Stave

Champion - Grav gun, web gauntlet, pistol (las or auto)

Champion - Long rifle, auto pistol

Ganger Specialist - Long rifle, 2 x stub guns

Ganger 1 - Shotgun

Ganger 2 - Autogun

Ganger 3 - Autogun

Ganger 4 - 2 x laspistols

Welcome to the Underhive, great to have you around.

I can not comment on the list, for I have yet to play my first game - but the bases are looking awesome already! I wonder if I will ever get over how comically oversized the Delaque guns and silencers are...

Have you thought about sending the Syndicate to Sludge City?

Thanks, I'm might send some to sludge City that looks like good motivation! Before that though I need some wise painters eyes to help me. I did a test ganger last night but something just feels off. I think it's the armour plating clashing with the other colours but I'm not sure what to do to fix it. Maybe black armour plates with the orange stripes here and there on them instead? The coat is incubi darkness which I really like.

To me he looks great, I would not change a single thing.

Also: you did that in one night?

Hmm maybe I've been looking at him too long, I might try with black armour plates on another model and see how that looks and compare.

I'd probably say it took me 2 nights to be honest. I did all of the bases over 2 nights for all of the gangers. Then for this test ganger one night was spent basecoating and washing the coat, and then the next night was doing everything else. He's probably taken about 8 hours total, I plan to push the highlights further though.

I think I’ve seen these guys floating around on Facebook? I have to agree with Darnok. That guy looks great.

Keep up the good work.

Dallo

Not me I'm afraid, I did post up on reddit though so maybe there?

I think he looks awesome mate.

I'm not sure if you tried it intentionally but he is rocking and insectoid kinda look. It's really cool.

It wasn't intentional but I see what you mean now haha.

Okay so I was brave (and kinda lazy) and decided to just do the black armour plates on this guy instead. Pushed the highlights abit further in various places and added metal chipping to the black plates and also added some spot colours of the stripes like you can see on the normal Delaque colour scheme. I think I'm settled on this being my final colour scheme now. Expect to see more gangers soon!

hm, tbh i prefer the first iteration overall; although I can see what you mean. Perhaps some of the green plating done a shade or two darker, maybe inked?

Although part of the reason the scheme looks so excellently legit is because of that very cyberpunk, kinda Infinity-esque neon-ness to it.

Looking good Midnight.

I tend to agree with your initial assessment about the colour of the armour plates - the blacked-out (plus red detailing) version with the accentuated highlights to the cloth areas works much better IMHO

Funnily enough I used to play Infinity ALOT and had an Imperial Service force painted up in a similar scheme. I think I did it subconciously by accident.

I like both of them.

The neon-esque look is very striking but perhaps the toned down version is more appropriate for the skulking, sneaky, back-stabbing Delaques

Thanks! Yes I think you are right and that is what made it feel 'off' even if the colour wasn't exactly clashing. It just felt to bright and cyberpunky for the grimdark of 40k and Necromunda, and it sort went against the whole stealthy skulking nature of the house Delaque like you say.

I basecoated and recess washed all of the coats for the rest of the gang over the weekend so I hope to share more soon over the coming weeks as I paint the gang members one by one.
