".....6 hours ?"

"Since the last contact. Yes. Too long."

"Any reasoning behind this ?"

"Unsure. I have the system analysing their last known movements. It should enlighten us of the situation."

"As the analysis states, unknown. I concur with it's findings, but......."

"SIR ! Reports of heavy fighting, southeast sector ! Three patrols under fire...."

It's not my first tango KS, and I don't know how busy the Tyranid section will be - a lot quieter than siding with either side of the Long War for sure. I've been there so I wanted to try something diferent, and in a shocking revelation - GSC are my one true love, moreso than either the WE or WS. Hell, you can blame Derek Schubert for that:

http://i.imgur.com/sUawCXa.jpg

http://demonwinner.free.fr/usa/1992/golden_demon_winner.php?categorie=3

This picture in the original run WD147(?) started my love affair all those years ago, and with the Great Lead Sale around that time, GSC were my first 'true' army during 2nd/3rd Ed when I actually played. If I remember, Derek's scheme was based off the original GW army at the time, and I've fond memories of my own purple/tan Brood Brothers in turn.

Managed to finish work early, so I've cracked on with the pics this evening, so here's the first vow:

I, oldschoosoviet, hereby pledge to complete the following units for E TENEBRAE LUX by Sept 1st, 2019, or be consumed as bio-matter by the nearest Hive Fleet.

1x Magus

1x Primus

4 x Locus

4 x Sanctus (2 rifle, 2 bio-dagger)

1 x Nexos

1x Kellermorph (sawnoffs are cooler)

6 x Acolyte Hybrids (hand flamers + H.Rock Drill)

6 x Acolyte Hybrids (+ H. Rock Saw)

for a total of 793pts. May the blessings of the four-armed God bring me fortune.

http://i.imgur.com/INHfvpE.jpg

Pretty standard to start with, the classic Magus having a head swap with the Nexos (slightly bigger, vein-ier) and the Primus getting some new arms. I'll save the Patriarchs for later when I get to the 'Stealers themselves. It's only delving into the characters where things get more interesting.....

http://i.imgur.com/NHTjxmX.jpg

The Nexos replaces his missing head with one from the BB upgrade sprue, and a quick autopistol addition. I've saved the ops table for a seperate base, so it can be used for an objective seperately. The sawn-off toting Kellermorph was my first conversion for this GSC, an idea that popped into my head as soon as I saw the appropriate arms in the Jackal bike box. His third arm holds some extra shells, ready to be loaded into the open gun, and a shotgun shell holster from the Space Marine Scouts hangs from his belt. I'll get some better shots upon completion.

As for the four moody looking types, they'll be my Locus conversions. I didn't feel much with the official figure, and I certainly didn't want to splash out on several with that static pose, so I've tried to convey the spirit as best as I could. Lower bodies are Delaque coats, and I've some thin purity seals to ape the official cloak, along with the dual blades and a couple of neurotraumal rods. I've gone for so many just as a nice rounded bodyguard for the Magus, although I wonder if I should add some GS hoods.......? Thoughts welcome.

http://i.imgur.com/VULyUJ1.jpg

I love these guys. Everybody loves assassins. The official model again didn't really hit the spot, and I wanted some unique looking fellows. So I've ended up with the shady, silent guy who skulks in the shadow, and the young upstart flinging himself with gusto.

With the rifle guys, I liked the idea of one moving, and one static, so the former having removed his weapon's scope and carrying it, (a Delaque hand) then using the Neophyte autogun bandolier arm as a base and fitting the rifle in situ. The latter being a typical "down the sight" pose and extra cutting to give him new arms, and a GS butstock. The heads have had added lenses (SM Scout NVG bits) to keep to the "triple scope" style. Did I tell you how much I love these guys ? :)

Well, here goes nothing......

Now he has some friends ! I think the various characters of the GSC relaunch have to one of the best things about it. All these wonderful stand out personalities amongst the throng of the horde.

(It's why I've kept them to a relatively sneaky subdued scheme too)

Vow 1 50% complete burning the midnight oil:

Sanctimonious Sanctus.

Primus, Locus and Kellermorph.

The gang all together.

Time to try out the mass production with the two squads of Acolytes. Chaos are wisely avoiding the Cultist pitfall this year, but I've not much option but to vow acolytes/neophytes.

Not unless I've heavier support in the wings......hmmmm ? :)

Well, finished the two small squads, and although the first 6 took a while, the second lot were so much quicker.

http://i.imgur.com/2qcXWkt.jpg

So, with that, my first vow is complete.

http://i.imgur.com/RchraTL.jpg

Lots of HQ, a couple of squads, hmmmm, time for the big stuff:

http://i.imgur.com/18IhdCn.jpg

Jackals, a Russ, and some fun conversions for Wolfquads and Armoured Sentinels. Wasn't a great fan of the Wolfquad (although it might be good for SM scouts, wink) so I set about a more 'industrial' look. I had intended to use the Kata tracks as a weapon battery or something, but after rewatching the Girl's Last Tour anime, boom ! Kettenkrad.

http://i.imgur.com/NvgjFoN.jpg

So, front of a Jackal bike, married to the tracks. Figured it's similar to current day RC explosive/demo robots etc, and I could see the arm having a claw or mining laser, hastily replaced with a stubber. Although rules wise I'd need more bikes to include them, eh, I'm building for fun. Guess a nice opponent could let you run them as is, or Scout Sentinels.....

Talking of Sentinels, here's the story. For Christmas past, I'd jokingly mentioned to my parents to get me something actually useful for a change, instead of the usual sweets/smellies/tat etc. "Buy anything from thon Warhammer shop...." I said,

".....I'll be able to use it."

First Warhammer Xmas present in 20+ years. They got a box of Killa Kans.

What's the phrase, "necessity is the mother of invention" or something ? Cue a brainwave to de-Orkify them, and make them closer to Imperial mining tech for the GSC. Praise be for the Ambot kit releasing too, replacing the legs I was never comfortable with extras from them. I'm happy enough with how they've turned out, and hoping some paint will 'jus' them up.

http://i.imgur.com/KLj8e39.jpg

Chief scouty one, with a big searchlight instead of a mining arm, and a crewman that fitted together brillantly, using the heavy weapon arms that just rest on the turret.

http://i.imgur.com/SZxim8P.jpg

And a the second one, with a little extra present.

A lot of fun converting these, and I'm hoping to lavish some detail on the Russ too. Might continue the "...hit it with my sword meme" !

Thanks for looking, comments welcome, and you could even support your local cult vowing in the ETL......

Welp, why pay £13 for an Alphus when you can convert one with bits:

RmAoIXA.jpg

The addition of a holstered sniper rifle and mini computer from the Delaque sprues kicking around, along with an aerial and binos from SM scout sprues, and it's a lot more fun coming up with your own too. Might try another using other 'sniper' bits post-ETL (I'm thinking IG HQ squad) to see what else I could create.

The bikes are pretty much straightforward, not too much changed at all:

m1Ir48r.jpg

But lurking in the background are theses 'beauts, and I'm really happy how they turned out:

kgDLvsj.jpg

Stuck with a plain drab industrial grey, nothing flashy and subdued, and a really fun kitbash. The gun mounts use the bottom 'plug' of the Kataphron body, filled in with the arm mount and copious amounts of poly cement, topped off with the arms from the original Wolfquads on two, and a chopped up Kan arm on the third. Speaking of Kans.....

4YbQgX6.jpg

I think they've "cleaned up" as not-Ork despite being dirty as hell, and still identifiable as Sentinels to a typical player despite being a tad short - my excuse is that the mining rigs need to be to fit in tunnels *cough*. Bit of fun with the crew too, and an extra lil' package for someone !

So, just the Russ to complete for Vow 2, working on that now over the weekend, but here's the mobile part of the force together:

MvrDM3j.jpg

Still, I may have been tinkering away on something extra. With only 4 Aberrants available from the Overkill box, and a codex unit requiring 5 as a minimum, I needed something to fill that slot. Looked at converting an Aberrant itself, but didn't really have the bits, so I struck upon the idea of some herder figure, a shepard to guide the poor brutes.

Started with this, a Cawdor body, lab coat from the Rotbringers(?) and a gs'd Biophagus head - keeping that identifiable collar:

Jvkjj2i.jpg

And after a few days while waiting for washes to dry, I've ended up with this:

qPem2l3.jpg

And the back:

csI2zrp.jpg

Holes in his back for 'stealer spine cut off an old model, but yeah, because it's the first time I've really tried sculpting on this scale, rebuilding the cowl, merging the cloak parts etc it was a learning process. I'm certainly no BCK but I'm gaining confidence.

Comments and questions most welcome, thanks for looking ! Gotta get back to that Russ........

Well, finally got around to the Russ:

0La06dM.jpg

And yes, I even added a cheeky wee driver !

ooSCuWL.jpg

So, that's vow 2 done and dusted, very dusted with how dirty they are:

muB6C0o.jpg

And time to move onto some actual bugs for Vow 3:

dmoIMIo.jpg

Dr Counts-as is in with his Aberrants, and I'm thinking of a psychotropic mushroom theme. Lots of little greenstuff mushrooms pre-prepared, replaced the Alchemical Familiars' vial for one, and replaced the missing Biophagus' staff with a needler. The mushroom idea is just to get some matching green bits to tie in with the goggles etc elsewhere, so here goes nothing.

Well, really forgot to update this thread......

ETL has ended, a forum champion accolade, and a good time as always. It's always fun having the pressure of unknown random internet people breathing down your neck...... Anyway, some pictures from the final few vows.

kXHlcLD.jpg

i5JMgNd.jpg

JQ4IbhQ.jpg

The mad mushroom muscle mob, fueled by psychotropic compounds or suchlike from my 3rd vow. Tied in the mushroom green as featured on the lamps elsewhere, and I think it works. I'm always a sucker for a bit of silliness around my minis, and it brings a bit of colour and fun in. I could probably have done a better job with the half-hybrid Doc, but he was a last-minute idea, and he's worked out okay.

Vow 4, and the dreaded mobs.

nUvXUAy.jpg

Low point horde armies are not conducive to the ETL, and I didn't want to vow too many for fear of getting bogged down, but a few squads were necessary in my mind. Tried to throw in as many upgrades as possible, and a couple of characters in the form of the stock Kellermorph and a kitbash Iconward. Converting a lot of the grunts to have a bit of character helps too.....

y8CPdId.jpg

vh4Mgb5.jpg

NrTgckc.jpg

M79 grenade laucher in the middle is one of my faves, open cocked, with a shell in hand ready to load, and a missing round on the corresponding ammo belt on his back. The H.Stubber another example of using Skitarii cloaks which fit really well after a few cuts.

Vow 5 was a last splurge of points, and an excuse to finally paint up the Space Hulk 'stealers I've had lying around.

E4bnz0a.jpg

And yet another Kellermorph, thanks to the Palanite sourced revolvers that arrived in time.

uOgVi2Y.jpg

All in all, after 3 months of the ETL, an army appears:

XYBY6j2.jpg

mqWRlv3.jpg

T862Kqe.jpg

Post-ETL I'm looking to finish off this Cult, with the remaining mob squads of converted Hybrids. Full squads of autogun and shotgun equipped Acolytes that are non-compliant, but so fluffy and fun, and a host of random Neophytes with cqc loadouts to add more flavour.

After that, I suppose I'll use this thread for smaller projects in future - there's a whole host of killteam ideas languishing in poly bags here and there, and more awaiting creation with the release of these new Warcry boxes. Down the rabbit hole once more.....

Whew. Haven't really touched anything 40k since last ETL, and developed a slight DayZ addiction in the meanwhile. Was prepping for this year as usual, but events covid-wise have put that to bed....

Soooo I figured I'd jump back in with something fun, dust the cobwebs off, reafirm my ZEAL for converting.....

cVHNGmF.jpg

I dunno much about Templars, but fancied a shot at some Sigmarines. Squad Bethinal, a nice lil' killteam, comprised of these lads. Lots of chopping, sculpting the feet/greaves piece by piece..... can I still paint ? That's yet to be answered. :D

Some individual shots:

C&C welcome, and especially any tips on 'warm' highlighting black. Going for autumnal bases (cream stone, orange/brown) so I should be mixing browns/fleshtones in rather than 'cool' greys ? Helpful pointers welcome !
