Returning Hobbyist

Recommended Posts

Hi, returning to being a GW hobbyist after a 5+ year break, first started playing 40k in 2000 although have also since played some 2nd edition games too, since I love that era so much.

Spent most of the last five years playing games by other companies like Bolt Action, Konflikt 47 & Saga but the brilliant models and nostalgia releases have got me back in to the GW family.

I sold my three previous armies due to not having the storage space when I moved house during that period I fell out of love with GW, so now planning to collect a couple of new armies.

One I have already started and have played a few games of 8th with, that army being Death Guard/Nurgle Daemons since they got such an amazing model update plus they always seemed to be my second choice every time I started a new army in the past.

Still trying to decide which army to collect to oppose them.

Thanks for the welcome.

I would like to collect two armies for variety during my hobby time but also so I have two armies to introduce new people to the game, so I am trying to settle on an army that feels and looks different to Death Guard/Nurgle Daemons.

I am leaning towards Tau at the moment, as I really like the infantry kits and the clean smooth lines would be a very different feel to the Nurgle models, just not so convinced by the Tau battlesuit minis.

Thanks for the welcome, Necrons is a good suggestion, nice models, elite army and I just got done reading the little background blurb in the codex about the DG managing to infect them so they are a thematic choice too.

I have a week to decide on my second army, as not planning to buy anything until next Saturday, can focus on building more of my Nurgle boys for now.

Focusing on the DG is a good idea why you decide. I think Necrons are a good idea also especially if you're not big on the Tau suits, but maybe it's worth having a good look over all the ranges to see what might take your fancy?

Thanks, I have been browsing the model range as so many new kits have been released during my break from GW, every time I look on their site I seem to find something new.

I would like it to be a Xenos army, so been working my way through them.

Craftworld Eldar would likely have been top of the list if we had plastic aspect warriors, as a Biel-tan army has always appealed to me.

Dark Eldar I used to play before, so not really interested in collecting them again.

Tyranids, great model range but I would prefer a more humanoid army.

So that leaves Tau, Necrons or Orks.

I do like the conversion potential of Orks as I used to build a few kits for a mates army.

So many nice kits now, so hard to choose but a fun choice to make.

The new contrast paints have made me more open to the idea of a horde army, so Orks are a serious possibility when you throw in how fun they are to build and convert.

Look into childrens' toys and consider paying a visit to a recycling station to pick up some junked electronics (old cassette recorders or video tape recorders, things with moving parts inside). These will house tonnes of bits and components that are great for ork convershuns.
