Help fighting bugs

Recommended Posts

This month my local game store will have a very interesting game. One player has 10,000 points of bugs. So there’s going to be a 10 v 1 game, with 10 of us bringing 1,000 points to fight his 10,000.

Some difficulty’s I see with making my list is that 10 players on a tight budget may not bring enough heavy hitting firepower that the bugs will be able to afford. So what advice can people provide for fighting nids? I’m thibking I need to start working on aggressors right away.

A match like the one you're talking about is all about fun, so my advice would be bring what you like, don't worry about it too much and have fun. You can kill anything in a 10000 point match, you could even bring down a titan with 10000 points worth of bolters.

And if the kid player brings 10000 points of bugs, there is no way his list is optimized, so it's probably best if the ten of you don't optimize your lists either.

That said, make sure you can kill lots of tiny bugs, they are annoying in tying everything up.

If at all possible, don't build your list in a vacuum. Consult your fellow players and work off of each other to both build your lists and rough out your tactics.

Even if you aren't running a Deathwatch force, the way they classify different enemy forces is instructional. Make sure you and/or some of your teammates are focused on handling one of the different kinds of units you will face - hordes, flyers, champions, etc. Ten take-all-comers will be less effective than ten intentionally-specialized forces. (c.f. Deathwatch again)

I’d echo what RandyB says. It’s going to be really difficult for 10 separate players to coordinate themselves in a game so it might help if you try and divide up jobs before. Some players agree to bring a lot of heavy firepower and go after the big stuff, some players agree to bring a lot of chaff clearance weapons and go after the gaunts and so on.

That way it’ll help you build your lists because you won’t be worrying about covering all bases. You know someone else is providing a screen for you so go big on the tanks and so on. It’ll also help you with knowing what you’ve got to do on the day.

Well it definitely won't be super balanced since you guys have to take 10x the minimum stuff for detachments like Troops and HQs while the Tyranid player can spend most of his points on fancy units.

My advice is, be in there for the fun and scenic experience. You won't see such a massive army on the board again for a long time. Don't focus too many of your points on high priority units that aren't really durable since those would then potentially face 10k points of shooting which no unit in the game can survive. Better focus on solid units and redundancy.

It's hard to give any more specific suggestions since I don't know what units you have available and which chapter you play and so on.

Personally since I'm a Primaris player I'd focus mostly on Intercessors (at last 4x5 should do great with Bolter discipline), of course a Captain and take a Repulsor because Tyranids can't deal that easily with a T8 model at range and you gonna need the Lascannons against their T8 models. A psyker would be great too. Just hope that your mates bring enough to screen your valuable stuff against Genestealers and such. :P

So basically my first draft, without knowing what kind of units you have access to, would look something like this:

Battalion

1x Gravis Captain

1x Primaris Librarian

4x5 Intercessors with Power sword

1x3 Suppressors (they can easily outrange your opponent with their 48" and bring good value for their points to the table)

1x Repulsor with full Lascannon and all the dakka in the world

Thanks for the help guys. I’m going to approach this with fun in mind, I don’t know who the other players are so I’m just going to wing it, and while I don’t have all the intercessors or any suppressors, panders list gives me something to work towards.

I imagine you all are using a narrative set up or are you using Matched Play? Hopefully the former so HQs and Detachments arent an issue.

I'd just theme my list if I was you. Counts as Ultramarines, Crimson Fist or Blood Angels all theme as Tyranid opponents. I'm one aircraft short of a Astartes Airwing I'd like to try someday ... just cause ;)

At 1k against nids? Thunder fire cannons, raiper weapons platforms- quad HB/ laser destroyer, Whirlwinds/Scorpus, storm cannon levi, HB devs, hurricane bolter cents, bulk intercessors etc. All the dakka units, plink the big stuff to death, you don't have pts for heavy guns so take lots of cheap/efficient mass firepower street sweepers instead.
