2 assassins

Recommended Posts

Is there a clear way to add 2 assassins to an army? You can add an assassin to a vanguard detachment; the way i read that is i can add one to my vanguard with a few vets, then requisition another with cp (though i lose the cp benefit of the vanguard attachment). Is that correct, or should i report to my local commissar for retraining?

So you can't just add assassins to any given detachment as simply sharing "imperium" keyword isn't enough to make it valid.  If you want 2 and no more you would need to run 2 aux for 1 cp ea, or an aux for 1 and pick-a-ssassin for 2.  You can add 3 via a vanguard detachment w/ no hq though but it doesn't give any CP, just doesn't take anything from you either, and of course you can run 1 of each of the 4 in a vanguard/execution force that does give you 1 cp.  They are quite awkward to run honestly its one of the 2 reasons the pick-a-ssassin strat was so good, most of them are good but you don't usually want more than 1-2, and it was hard to fit them into an army.  The strat made that easier, at least for bringing one.  Now its probably 1, 3 or 4 if you want to run them.

You can take one as an auxiliary detachment for 1 CP and another for 2 CP. One is good enough.

I think the FAQ stopped this, pretty sure the strat now specifies you can only use it if you don't already have any Assassins in your army

This is the case I believe

Unfortunately you're stuck with either 1 assassin with the strat (or aux detachment) or 3+ with the vanguard detachment

Which is a pain because I also think 2 is the optimal number

Where does it say you can’t take one in an Auxiliary detachment I could not find anything.

The wording is "as long as your warlord has the imperium keyword, you can include this unit in your army as part of a vanguard detachment even if this detachment contains no HQ units.

Not sure where it states that the detachment you are adding it to can only contain assassins. In this case, taking 2 and say a veteran unit with a couple company commanders would be legal right? I'd just lose the command point for the det?

The newly FAQ'd strategem reads:

You can only use this Stratagem if your Warlord has the Imperium Faction keyword (excluding Fallen) and your army does not contain any Officio Assassinorum units.

So you can't take an Aux assassin (1CP) + Operative Sanctioned (2CP) for 2 assassins as you already have an assassin unit.

You could however take

2x Aux detachments for 2 Assassins at 2 CP (you would burn 2 detachments though)

or

a Vanguard detachment as mentioned

However if youre running the vanguard you only have 2 options

Run 3 assassins for no CP cost

or

If your opponent doesn't hold you to the Battle Brothers requirement (ie you can mix IMPERIUM keywords) then you can take 1 HQ and 3 elites

You only ignore the HQ requirement if you take 3 assassins.

nop = nope

Taking Assassins in match play  101 =

Single Assassin in an Aux Det(s) at -1 CP per Detachment (Main Rule Book Detachment rules & limits - updated in CA/FAQ for tournament play)

Single Assassin via strat at 2 CP for match play (errated cost - https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/warhammer_40000_update_April_2019_en.pdf pg 11) - ONCE PER FORCE may not have any other assassins

3 -6 Assassins in a Vanguard, any type for 0 CP, no HQ required.  (WD list)

4 Assassins, one of each type for +1 CP  (WD List)

My understanding is there is no restriction on number of auxiliary detachments you can take so you can take 2 of them as 2 detachments for 2 CP

Unless the Assassins WD rules say otherwise?

thats correct

The only restrictions to the amount of Aux. Detachments are the limit(s) put in place by the points limit.... ie 3 Detachments at 2k...

I've updated my 101 post to make it a bit clearer... please let me know if it has :p
