But disco Lemartes is I think my favourite individual bad 40k model.

That Dark Eldar revamp couldn't have happened soon enough. I think as a model range goes it's one of the better ones now. They certainly had some teething problems in the early days.

This is the only paintjob I've seen for this model that stops it just looking like a stripper. https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Kruellagh

I could never keep a straight face whenever I saw Chaplain Xavier. The pose seemed weird, I could never tell what he was trying to do. Dancing? About to bring his hammer down onto his other weapon? Speaking of which, the hammer - something about the flat and squat design reminded me of a griddle pan. And then there was the mask, the mouth piece always made me think he looked like a startled bird.

Regarding the old Dark Eldar stuff - I may be completely misremembering this, but I'm sure I saw somewhere that the sculptor wasn't terribly satisfied with them because he said he felt like he'd been rushed to get it done. I'm sure it was on Warseer, a few years back someone claimed that he'd been given the task of sculpting the majority of the range in something absurd like 7 weeks. Can anyone confirm that?

Captain Cortez was terrible.  The paintjob didn't help, because it gave him an oversized boxing glove.

Kruellagh the Vile looked like she was sculpted with one hand.

The slaves on Vect's skimmer looked like they were sculpted by Febby Petrulio.

Xavier is sub par with a lot of the same problems as Cortez in that he doesn't fit what was to become a very standardized marine proportions but no where near as bad.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dark Eldar range was rushed, the metal portion of the Tyranid range was rushed at around the same time.

I actually quite liked that Lemartes :smile.:

I had heard that the DE very nearly got squatted - decision was made to revamp them after how ever many years it was following their initial release.

The Dark Eldar re-release took ages because the work took ages due to it being the first mostly CAD range.

That's a kit I never had any love for. There was one picture that made them look good (they were fighting some Striking Scorpions) but apart from that they were a goofy-headed buck-toothed mess of a model. While there were relatively few 3rd edition era models I really liked the updated Tyranid warriors were a huge step forward in my opinion. I think they have aged pretty well after that.

Those Tyranid warriors are plastic and were from Advanced Space Crusade so are a weird case but unlike the original Space Crusade they are GW figures not Milton Bradley ones. There was an older metal 'Tyranid' that was too big to be a termagant/'hunter slayer' and went along with rules where the basic tyranids were called 'warriors' (and had 2 wounds as was normal for warriors until 5th ed) so its dubious if the plastics are the 'original' ones.

Distinct from the wider released 'hunter slayers' that got rebranded as termagants at the start of 2nd ed.

Did you know that back in the day Tyranids had slave races? Welcome to the Zoat.

Tyranids still have genetically modified servant species, they just refined how they're described.

Chaos space marine horsemen are probably the weirdest rogue trader thing to me.

The OG juggernaut is also hilariously lame, while the steeds of slaanesh are actually half decent.

It's the scared guy in the back that doesn't for me. He's seen some...

Even the context of it being a dressing room doesn't help it obviously being a "throne".

Those two slave girls from the old DE were really badly proportioned and sculpted. Its like someone never interacted with an actual woman to do those. :teehee:

Oh god those things! What's extra hilarious is that they were sculpted (and briefly released) with no tops and ironically looked less awkward. Then someone obviously had a complaint and they got given bra. I don't even object to the "sexy slave girls" thing, but if you're going to put scantily clad women in pewter form for sale at least make them not look like Nurglings in makeup!

The old metal Cadian lieutenant with the shotgun and beer belly always made me laugh.

Don't you dare insult my Fat Lt! He has been my warlord for over 5 years and only dies occasionally, often shotgunning something in the face before he dies as well. Such a lovely iconic model.
