Paladin strategies

Ive been thoerycrafting few different ways of playing my paladins recently...

One of my ideas is to run a big 10-man blob wrapping a bro-cap with FTTF to give them extended smite/ re-roll charge..etc

I tend to fight against melee focused armies quite alot (Custodes, Daemons, Death Guard, SM / BA..etc)

While looking at ways to increase their resilience i came across a rule question that i cant find an answer to anywhere:

Heed on the pallys 1st turn for a 4++, Sanctuary for a 3++, then once in combat - does the warding stave then give them a 2++ ??

or does the recent sanctuary 'nerf' faq override this?

Would be interested to hear if anyone else has other tactics for running their pallys.

I’m not sure, but I think Heed can only be applied to a character? Correct me if I’m wrong :)

But I like the way your trying to use a blob of paladins. I’m looking at doing the same thing. Saw someone had good success with them at a tournament a while back.

I was thinking of going with all storm bolters and use the psybolt ammunition stratagem combined with the new beta bolter rule.

Yea your right, heed's only on characters......bollocks.

Agreed psybolt on any 10man sqd is always great, specially if combined with astral aim against anyone in cover.

Ive combo'd it with 10man interceptors jumping forward T1 into los blocking terrain then firing 40x s5 -1 shots through a wall, works a treat.

If GW only dropped psybolt and psy onslaught to 1cp....would massively improve GK, but weve all heard that before - dont wana turn this into a rant, tryin to look for the few positives we have.

Make 10-men squad with Draigo/GM for rerolls nearby, Apothecary to heal/raise fallen models and brocap for 24" smite. You can start on table and still be in range for 40 SB shots, because of bolter discipline. If you have some spare points, give hammer to paragon and 4 psilencers to other guys. This will be extremely expensive force, but one to be reckoned withю Their main downside is low mobility, and they still will be shred to pieces with any descent shooting even with 2+/3++. It is good to give to 1-2 models stave. They would be pseudo-storm shields in close combat.

Drop a Paladin and throw in a Paladin Ancient with the Banner of Refining Flame relic for a +1A within 6" and the Ancient doing d6 damage Smite at 12" thanks to the Brother Captain.

Draigo

Brother Captain

Paladin Ancient

Apoithecary

6 Paladins

40 SB shots at 12"

4 Smite + 1 d6 damage Smite

d3 wound regen each turn for one model

2+/3++ Draigo for re-roll hits

BroCap for double distance Smite

2 HQ + 3 Elites = Vanguard detatchment.
