Fallen for Kill Team

I would like to build a Kill Team themed around Fallen, which can be used as a legal unit in 40K as well. This means:

  • up to ten models of CSM
  • any model is per default armed with boltgun, bolt pistol, frag and krak grenades
  • any boltgun can be replaced by a chainsword
  • one model (i.e. the champion) can replace boltgun and/or bolt pistol with any two choices from: bolt pistol, chainaxe, chainsword, lightning claw, plasma pistol, power axe/fist/maul/sword, boltgun, combi-bolter/flamer/melta/plasma
  • up to four models can choose any one choice of the following: replace bolt pistol with plasma pistol OR replace boltgun with combi-bolter/flamer/melta/plasma or flamer/meltagun/plasmagun OR replace boltgun and bolt pistol with two lightning claws OR take one of either chainaxe, chainsword, lightning claw, power axe/fist/maul/sword, thunder hammer
  • one additional model can replace its boltgun with any one choice from: flamer, meltagun, plasmagun, autocannon, heavy bolter, lascannon, missile launcher
  • no cultists

The KT should be reasonably effective, but not "hardcore competetive". The effectiveness of the unit in 40K terms is of no concern to me, it just needs to be legal.

I have no experience with plaing Kill Team so far, and I have borrowed my rulebook to my brother for the time being - so please help me out with a list. Thanks in advance. :smile.:

There are not really any veteran squads in kill team(yet), so your best bet is to use either the space marine, or chaos marines kill team rules and use them as a space marine, or chaos space marine squad. You won't get the wealth of options however.

You'll get basically one heavy weapon, one special weapon, and the sergeant can have a power fist, or power sword. The rest will be bolter marines.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the basic CSM list is what should be used for the KT.

Fair enough. If those are the constraints, that will be it.

As I mentioned in the OP: I have a KT book, just not with me for the time being. I also lack any actual gaming experience - hence me asking for a reasonaby effective list.

TL/DR: I don't have the book right now, but want to build models, with the list provided by a friendly soul here.

I don't think you would be able to get a 10 man kill team at the standard 100 pts. I play heretic astartes currently and at 100 pts I have 5 marines and 3 cultists. 1 Aspiring Champion power first and plasma pistol combat specialist, 1 Gunner Heavy Bolter heavy specialist 1 Gunner plasma gun sniper, 1 cultist champion leader specialist, 2 cultist gunners with flamers, and 2 chaos marines with bolt pistol and chainswords. 1 of the bolt pistol chainsword marines carries an icon of wrath as everyone has the mark of Khorne. That is 100 pts on the nose.

I am only just getting started on Kill Team, but trying a similar thing to get a legal unit for my Alpha Legion. The choices are so few the unit almost picks itself:

Aspiring Champion - probably plasma pistol and power sword because Fallen were dark angels right? So swords and plasma?

Gunner with heavy bolter

Gunner with flamer/melta/plasma - same points so whichever you like

2 marines with bolters

2 marines with bolt pistols and chainswords

96 points? - sorry didn’t max out. Won’t work for my Alpha Legion because sergeant options. Might just ask my opponent to be lenient and permit something else for sensible points.

If you can model it, why not add Icon of Vengeance to take to 97?

Sorry, can I just check Fallen in 40k can only have one of heavy bolter/ flamer or both? If only one then it’s a pain. Converting one to a bolter dude in Kill Team saves 4 points. Not enough for another marine without losing more special weapons / sergeant options and ending up with a rather boring squad.

Aspiring champion power sword,

Icon of vengeance

7 marines (bolter or chainsword)

100 points

Maybe magnets could be your friend or ask opponent for combi-weapon to count as’ special.

That sounds like a plan, thank you! Do grenades cost points?

One heavy bolter and another special weapon is fine, so the list above could work.

Grenades do not cost points - you either get them for free or you don't, depending on whether the specific datasheet gets them (generally, Killteam datasheets have the same grenades as their 40K equivalents).

Usually, the only things that cost points (other than models) are wargear upgrades like special & heavy weapons and squad leader upgrades, though there are some exceptions (for harlequins, I think, most of their squad options cost points).  Point costs are typically less than they would be in 40K, while model costs (at least for non-Elite, non-Character models) are usually the same or be pretty similar to those for their 40K equivalents.

I left the house without the book, but I suspect you could swap the power sword for power fist on the sergeant in the 96/97 point list. But I always think plasma pistol AND powerfist is just not classy on sergeants, it seems almost greedy. (Needless to say, that’s how my regular opponent has equipped both of his for 40k/Calth).

Yeah, knowing if the powerfist fits into that list instead of the sword would be good to know - thanks in advance.

I know the sword/pistol looks iconic for DA/Fallen, but I want to use parts of the Mk.III and Mk.IV Marine kits, and the Mk.III powerfist is just awesome:

Could be a lightning claw, true. Does it matter though if I call it a powerfist? I don't think so.

Thanks for all the advice, I think I found everthing I was looking for! I will keep you updated with the team once it is built and painted. :smile.:

Yeah, you do have a point. And converting a bunch of khornate Fallen would be a cool thing... not that I am starved for ideas for my main army. :laugh.:

Also: go on, tempt me to spend even more money. GW is really bad at it... ...

If you are still tinkering, will this help?

Doesn’t seem to have Elites but I made your squad 99 points. Played my first game with T’au today. Got pummelled. I see another GW ploy - after the game I immediately wanted to buy pathfinders for rail rifles and the Elites book for Crisis suits. I need some AP against Rubric marines with their 2+ save!? Must not listen to the voices, must not, point of Kill Team was to make what I have playable, not make me buy more ...

I didn't know this existed, thank you very much for making me aware of it!

If you do bring Fallen to the table, these guys will find you, and they will kill you :biggrin.:

They are far to pretty to do any serious damage.
