Cadorn's Knights of Dorn

Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster to B&C!

I wanted to join up and represent the Astartes for ETL VII, so I figured I should also share my homebrew chapter as well!

These are my Knights of Dorn, a splinter of a Black Templar Crusading fleet which eventually became its own crusading chapter.

"... blessed with a vision from The Emperor himself, these few Templar have set out on a quest to find the Praetorian of Terra and return with him to the Imperium. They believe that Dorn will reveal himself to them only once they have proven themselves to perfectly exemplify the knightly values of the Imperium. Defend the masses of the Imperium, uphold the honor of the Knights of Dorn and the Imperium at any cost, destroy oathbreakers at any cost, these are just a few of the traits which the Knights of Dorn strive towards..."

I was strongly inspired by the black and yellow color scheme of some pre-heresy fists, but wanted to incorporate the feel of more classical tales of knights. I'm hoping to invoke feelings of the quest for the holy grail with these marines.

Here are some of my first takes on the scheme. I feel like I've progressed a ton since these, but they are fun to look back on. These are built entirely out of the Betrayal at Calth tactical marines sprue, which blew my mind at the time.

Here's some pictures of the Captain I am planning on vowing for ETL. HIs base will probably change between now and when he's finished, but he was great fun to kitbash.

I have a bunch more photos I'll upload soon and am looking forward to using this to track hobby progress and to motivate me to practice writing with the chapter's fluff. Thanks for taking a look!

While I mainly play Dark Angels, the Fists and Dorn always hold a place in my heart. I quite like these guys, the colour scheme is unique, and the fluff you have is interesting.

MOAR!

Thanks for the replies!

Really nice metallic yellow, how did you achieve that?

It's Retributor Armor with a couple coats of Reikland Flesh shade, which really warms up and deepens the color. I like to let the first coat just tint the entire gold section. Then I highlight up with more Retributor Armor, Liberator Gold, and some Stormfang Silver.

The Angels also have a place in my heart as one of my first Space Marine loves. I draw some amount of parallels in my Knights of Dorn's quest to find Dorn and the Dark Angel's quest to track down the Fallen. I was worried for a bit that they would be too similar.

Here's some more close ups of my dreadnought. He's the first model I painted that I was really happy with, even though I'd never attempted something his size before and learned a whole bunch as I went. His arms are completely magnetized and are swappable out with a few other WIP dreadnoughts I have sitting on my shelf.

There's some heraldry on this dreadnought, on his lower left leg and tilt shield. At the time of painting him I imagined each Knight getting their own heraldry pattern, and this basic four-square pattern would be his. I haven't really followed up on this idea too much, and I think I should probably revisit it but maybe at a squad-level patterns. I also like to imagine his sword was attached to his sarcophagus when he was interned, as a Knight without his sword is unthinkable.

Thank you!

After pledging to ETL and having a clear goal to work towards, I did what I expect many other hobbyists do: become distracted by something I've ignored on my desk for a year.

I started work on this chaplain again, who got a first go at edge highlighting forever ago and then abandoned until I felt more comfortable with it. A lot of the highlights are pretty messy, especially on the jump pack, so I will have to go back and clean those up  more. His jump pack is magnetized so he can be more flexible.

Some WIP pictures follow, C&C welcome!

The smash captain for ETL, and some dreadnoughts I had sitting around, also got primed when we finally had some nice weather. I expect to start work on him shortly.
