So after a joke about 3 stormwolves I started toying around with a primarily flyer list and came up with two ideas. One with 4 stormwolves, and one with 2 stormwolves and 2 fire raptors. I like the later more than the former, so I present it here for your comments and criticism:

++ Air Wing Detachment +1CP (Imperium - Space Wolves) [70 PL, 1,514pts] ++

+ Flyer +

Fire Raptor Assault Gunship [19 PL, 432pts]
. Two quad heavy bolters: 2x Quad heavy bolter
. Two twin lascannons: 2x Twin lascannon

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Space Wolves) [32 PL, 485pts] ++

+ HQ +

Iron Priest on Bike [6 PL, 88pts]: Boltgun, The Armour of Russ, Thunder hammer
. Bike: Twin boltgun

Wolf Guard Battle Leader on Bike [6 PL, 118pts]: Saga of the Beastslayer, Storm shield, Thunder hammer, Warlord
. Bike: Twin boltgun

+ Troops +

Grey Hunters [6 PL, 83pts]: 4x Chainsword
. Grey Hunter Pack Leader: Chainsword
. 4x Grey Hunter w/Bolt Pistol
. Wolf Guard Pack Leader: Chainsword, Storm shield

Cyberwolves [1 PL, 15pts]: Cyberwolf

Cyberwolves [1 PL, 15pts]: Cyberwolf

++ Total: [102 PL, 1,999pts] ++

I’m aware of the weaknesses inherent in a list with so few and fragile ground troops, but otherwise, the idea is to hold my backfield objectives and then aggressively fly forward and focus fire down anything threatening.

The stormwolves combined firepower for hard targets, and the fire raptors for clearing hordes.

Thoughts?

It would almost HAVE to be ITC to have the best chance of not getting boots'd. Would be funny though. Preferably against eldar, own medicine being what it is...

you need a tough as nails ground unit to avoid boots rule

at least a 5 man unit of WGTDA with SS

turn 2 teleport into a ruin or something then just stay alive

downgrade 1 fire raptor to a stormwolf and ditch the GH upgrades and cyber wolves.

Maybe forget battalion altogether bc you dont need cp for flyers.

Consider a phobos WL instead of IP

advancing and proper flying combined with priority target trait is a BS2 rerolling flyer

the phobos omni scrambler will also keep you from being picked off too easy

My thinking was that the GH and cyber wolves would hide in the first floor of ruins near home objectives so only weapons that can ignore LOS could target them. If you think I could do without the 5cp from the Battalion, I could probably drop the GH and cyber wolves for 2 packs of wolf guard terminators with storm shields and storm bolters, and let them hide in the ruins instead.

With my main force being vehicles I’d be nervous to give up the iron priest. Would the Phobos WL be able to keep up with the flyers?

This version has 3 packs of stormshield/stormbolter terminators with a footslogging WGBL for a cheap HQ. the TDAWG hunker down in the first floor of ruins or behind LOS blocking terrain while the Air Force does its thing.

More durable?

I'm definitely not in general a fan of min/max lists like this but this at least looks so weird it would be fun. biggrin.png

the phobos WL trick is designed for turn 1

he can forward deploy or simply run and still be in bubble range if you plan ahead

turn 1 alpha strike rerolling 1s and a single flyer has bs2. that gives synergy your list needs

after that it depends on youbas a general

flyers have to fly but storm wolf can always hover if you want to stay near WL

Thanks for the feedback guys. Now I just need to play test it a few times to get a feel for whether or not I like it.

oh the phobos WL trick can also makes the terminator storm bolters hit on rerollable 2s if that wasn't clear

shred hard targets with flyers and hordes with storm bolters (20 shots for 5 man squad)

one of my theory craft lists was a 10 man terminator unit teleport in and surprise! then they hunker down and hold an objective
