Drones vs PBC's

Drones are T7 but can move out of combat and shoot.

PBC's are T8 but can't move out of combat and shoot.

Drones have 10W and are OK in melee.

PBC's have 12W and hit on 6's in melee with only 1 damage each.

Drones start with a 10" move, then 8" and 6".

PBC's start with a 9" move, then 6" and 4".

Drones cost 158 points (dual spitter) and no other shooting.

PBC's cost 140 points (dual spitter) and have a mortar and heavy slugger.

I like the PBC's for the +1T and 2 extra wounds, but I like the Drones because they can't get tied up.

Thoughts?

PBCs all the way. You can overcome being tied up with a more careful positioning and a screen of plaguebearers or even using the Nurgle tree. T8, more wounds, more dmg, lower cost vs a bit more mobility is just a no brainer imo.

Probably stating the obvious, but PBC's are good for board control, blocking paths and giving some damage while taking some. For pure offense and hanging out with a Daemon Prince with Wings and arch contaminator drones are sweet.

I think they are similar and it's nice we have options. But If I had to have one and only one it would be drones. Drones don't need that careful positioning (situational), screen of a unit (points), or trees (points) to be as good. That makes that 140pts seem closer to 158pts to me. And the PBC's other weapons are heavy so no advancing and firing

and takes the penalty with normal movement, not to mention one can't shoot the same target as it's spitters. Not that much more damage I find. But why not take 3 of each and be that guy? 12 spitters gets stuff done!

It's 6 in one hand half a dozen in the other. I use both.

I have been wanting to get 2 PBC's so that I can try both at once. So far my tried and true is 2x FDP's protected by 3x spitter drones and then as many pox walkers as i can squeeze in there (sometimes they are supported by typhus). I would like to try out reducing my infantry portion since all my opponents bring their full anti infantry now. That'll teach em!

I'm not the tournament kind of guy but I do like my competitive games. I normally field, as was stated before, three drones with a FDP in a spearhead. And they precisely do that. Good mobility and placing 4 dangerous units in the enemy's face normally draws a lot of fire and they are not the easiest to bring down with their toughness and FNP.
I have as well three PBC but haven't used them as just yet in games as I haven't got my brushes on them yet and I like to keep my armies with as much units painted as I can.
But they are the next to go on the table to test them out.

PBC are utterly dominating when near and arch contaminator prince.

Re-rolling 1s to hit and all wound rolls makes them incredibly deadly.

Sponson weapons are up to you, the spewers aren't bad for more plague synergy and keeping would be assaulters away too.

Ultimately though I think drones and crawlers serve different roles;

+Crawlers serve as heavy firepower and unkillable bricks

+Drones are fast and used to tie up enemy units by abusing FLY.
