Once again I find myself returning from a bit of a sabbatical from 40K as 30K consumed me once more. Haven't really played any games in 8th edition, so I'm pretty unfamiliar with the meta and how competitive lists look these days. I've heard a little about multi-detachment lists being more successful, but I started with what I knew and hoped my fellow Wolves would show me just how bad the error of my ways were if I'm way off-base.

Arjac is my favorite character, so I'd really like to keep him in the list in some capacity, but other than that I'm not overly attached to anything and would like to be at least moderately competitive. Thanks in advance!

People are more taking detachments from different factions within an army rather than just multi-detachments. For example taking mostly wolves but then a battalion of guard for cheap objective holders and more CP. All united by the "imperium" keyword.  In terms of multi-detachment put staying pure space wolves, if you added one more HQ you could add it to your three elite choices to make a Vanguard detachment which would get you 1 more CP. Rune Priests are quite good, so that might be a good option for you.

Do you know that your Grey Hunters can have Boltgun, Pistol and Chainsword all for no additional cost?
