IF you happen to roll it, yeah. Marines have much less attacks than lets say Orks have shots so it happens less often that you actually roll a 6 and trigger that ability. It's awesome if it happens and if it's with a model that actually has a good weapon. Most of the time however it just doesn't happen or happens on a model without a good weapon. :P

every unmodified hit roll of 6 meaning 2 hits is potentially huge, yeah. imagine that on a thunderhammer!!

Are you sure on that? Like, did you read the card or found a readable version or is it speculation?

Just wanted to make sure since people in my 40k chat are going ape :cuss

Did you manage to get a copy of the LE and chapter tactics? They're pretty good!

If Rathamanti ordered around the same time as I did, he should be getting it soonish, as I got the confirmation email that it was shipping last night at 9:50 pm (Eastern Standard Time).

Iirc, Charlo was the one who started the thread about the Spears' Chapter tactic, and could only make out "each unmodified hit roll of a 6 in the fight phase, counts as 2 hits for units with this chapter tactic"

I'll confirm what the tactic is when I get it myself.... Unless someone else posts it first

Yep, that's correct:

That's not my own picture though, since I wasn't able to get my hands on a copy. Bummer.

Kind of a necro post.

Halfway through Spear of the Emperor and I'm loving it! They are about to become my most favorite UM successor and to kick the Iron Snakes from the throne.

Eager to see more stuff abour them: second novel, more minis, whatever! :D

I finished the book, and wow! Loved it. I finished it over a weekend. Just could not put it down. Was absolutely fantastic. It did leave me with a few questions though. I saw Rathamanti's list of questions, and A D-B's answers. I hope there is no objection to another list of questions?

I have started to read through the Wrath & Glory rules and thought it would be fun to run a Emperor's Spears RPG Campaign. So... have these questions:

1. I don't remember from the book any information on a Fortress/Monastery, or whatever the Spears would call it. Did I miss that? Is it on the Hex? Or?
2. Are the character names Gaelic?
3. Do the Spears have scouts? I don't remember any mention of them.

4. Where the heck is Elara's Veil? I can't find it on any 40K Galaxy map? Anyone manage to find it?

5. Anyone near Baltimore, Maryland interested shoot me a PM.

Also, Rathamanti your Army is an inspiration. Just amazing, and clean work. I love seeing models like those.

Edited for grammar.

Yup, Ultramarines. It's stated in both the Index that came with the Limited Edition and, iirc, inside the novel itself.

Remember: Geneseed does NOT equal culture. ADB has made that very clear in the Emperor's Spears thread in the Liber

They look like smurfwoofs.

Only because the mentality for so long has been "no, Ultramarines successors can't be space-Celtic barbarians! Only the Space Wolves can do that, Ultramarines successors must be space-Grecoroman!"

I’m thinking Mortifactors.

Too add to this, minor descriptive spoiler from the novel:

There are huge ruins of buidings and cities on the Islands of Nemeton, made of white marble, that is not native to the planet.

So it seems like - and the narrator assumes exactly this - the Ultramarines tried to bring the prosperity and civilized ways of the 500 worlds to Nemeton. They even hauled all the materials they needed to build exact copied of Ultramar's Cities to Nemeton.

But the tribes of Nemeton did not live in these cities for long. Over time they reverted to their old (or reimagined old) ways, as Nature reclaimed those cities.

We need more Chapters like this, understanding the fact that Successors aren't just the founding Chapter painted a different colour.

agreed. Just like our own experiences we are a product of our genes and our environment.

I like to think its the people that lend the geneseed the "strength" it has. For example, geneseed could come from robby or horus (none chaotic tainted obviously) but if were applied to a culture say the likes of the unsullied or dhalthraki the ferocity would come from the customs of said culture.

In one of the "flash-forward" prologues, Anuradha mentions her new home being deep under the oceans of Nemeton (when she reflects on how absolute the darkness would be if the lights went out). I can't remember if she's specifically in the fortress-monastery or equivalent, but even if not it makes sense that the monastery would be down there, too.

This might sound like an odd question but I’m still only a few chapters in but is the mentor marine an old pattern or primaris marine?

It's mentioned that Amadeus is one of the Firstborn very early on, when Anuradha mentions that all of the Emperor's Spears they've met are Primaris.

Cheers, Is that firstborn primaris or firstborn of the “new” chapter 888. Sorry for such a basic question but I must be completely blind and missed it.
