super mega terrain discussion

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the right location for this but here it is.

We all know how much a great looking table really adds to the game so I though this would be a great place to share, discuss, and otherwise critique terrain.

I am specifically looking at terrain that can be bought- complete or un-assembled, unpainted, finished etc... I already know lots of people go with DIY terrain but I am looking at products that are already available.

To start off I have a few manufacturers that I have seen their websites but have no experience with them so feedback would be great.

The unknowns-

.death ray designs-these guys have the dawn of war marine buildings for 28mm gameplay

https://deathraydesigns.com/product-category/terrain

.blueforge terrain-these guys have some complete boards and a stunning array of pieces much of it looks like wood or resin.

http://www.blueforgeterrain.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html

.warsenal-I've got some of their custom bases the terrain likes like laser cut wood

https://warsen.al/collections/terrain

.secret weapon miniatures

another site that has fantastic custom bases (I own some) with a few very nice terrain items

http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=52

The known

.micro art studios-

https://shop.microartstudio.com/en/159-scenery

cannot say enough great things about these guys I love the custom bases but I also grabbed some of their terrain. they do laser cut but also they do hardfoam as well as resin and they have fantastic stuff for tau, elder, necrons, and chaos including buildings army specific defense walls etc....

.ESLO hobby

http://onlineshop.gelaendestuecke.de/index.php?cat=c4_News---Offers-.html

I have to admit I am addicted to these guys. a german company that does finished hand painted terrain. it is a bit spendy but the quality is worth it.

for US residents noble knight games keeps them in stock with fast shipping at affordable rates(usually within 3 days basic shipping anywhere in the US mainland)

https://www.nobleknight.com/Publisher/ESLO-Hobby

-For those of you who dabble in small scale like epic 4Ok, battletech or any other game in 6mm

.novus design studo has a limited line of buildings and ruins

https://www.novusdesign.net/6mm-Terrain-Scenics_c_11.html

.brigade models

http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/SmallScaleScenery/index.html

These guys have a bit of everything, naval, airfields, forts, desert, tech, midevil

there is even more items in the 6mm section as well. reasonably priced to boot.

.vanguard miniatures who supply large parts of the epic 40K line also work in cooperation with gregsters lab for some great 40k gothic style buildings

https://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/product-category/terrain/gregsters-lab-terrain/

here is some recent images-

ESLO terrain except the tree templates/trees, small ruin and lake(gale force 9/flames of war)

a mix of novus, brigade, gregsters, monster apocalypse, gale force 9 (star wars)and old(sadly out of business) JR miniature terrain for small scale.

P.S.-side note of gale force 9 terrain-lovely but they keep discontinuing it after short production runs.

Hello there.

Since this is a mega thread I thought I'd chip in with something slightly different- https://miniart-models.com/catalogue/categories/building-and-accessories-1-35/ -buildings in 1:35. They can definitely fit the scale, but will require some effort- they're vacuum-formed so every opening and outline has to be cut and then the halves glued with plastic strip in-between. Whether or not that's worth the effort is up for debate:

Inside view with flooring and I-beam structure added with GW terrain pieces for comparison:

Also- this soviet airfield kit https://www.amazon.com/ICM-Models-Soviet-Airfield-Building/dp/B008ZDQLKC will make some nice gantries etc, despite being something different originally:

I have the 3 tower promethium refinery from Death Ray Designs. I bought it during a Christmas sale and I am very pleased with the product. Solid construction, easy to follow directions and painted up easy following their advice.

I believe Micro Art Studio does some very good terrain, including some inexpensive (for the scale) Tyranid biostructures made from foam. I've handled them in person and they've got very nice crisp detail, especially for the material.

Not sure if someone already mentioned this site and I just happened to miss it, but I recently discovered PWorkWargames.com from a Winters SEO video. Haven't gotten anything from them yet, but I'm very tempted to give them a try.

i have one of their maps but I am not sure about their terrain.

If it wasn't for the shipping, I'd have already ordered some of their stuff. But even then their prices seem reasonable. And they offer a lot of bundles on their site, something I really wish GW would consider as a general business practice.
