Questions at Urban Conquest Owners

Hey Fraters,

I am contemplating to buy Urban conquest since I foolhardily announced that i would run a 40k Campaign towards the End of the Year. Main Motivation behind that was to get people (myself included) to paint their Stuff.

The Setting will be the ongoing Vigilus Conflict, but none of us has been enamoured of the Scenarios and Campaign System included in the Books. Thats why I am looking at Urban Conquest.

I reckon we will have a good amount of Players, certainly more than 4, which leads to my Questions:

1) Is it possible to play the included Campaign with more than 4 Players? We could easily be 8 to 10

2) Could it be possible to sensibly divide the Playerbase into Teams (Chaos vs Imperium etc.)?

3) If so,  Is one Set enough, even with double the amount of Players?

4) Most importantly, is it fun?

I don't have the box, but from what I know about it, you could probably modify it to play with a larger group. Just go with a 2-3 player campaign, where each "player" is a team of 4-5 people. I would assume that would work, but again, I don't have the rules to say it definitely would.

If you have 8-10 it's going to be difficult to keep up with the map and points scale. Your events and actions plays are going to be limited also. So, you're going to have to modify some stuff.

You could also divide the group up into two separate campaigns to balance your campaign. Perhaps work on two different cities on the same continent or providence etc.

Its recommended to play for 6-8 weeks. In my experience, that number of 10 will dwindle to about 3-4 by the end of things. So take that as you will.

Thanks Guys, had allready given up on this Question.  Great of you to come through....I feared so much. It will have to be Teams then instead of individual Players acting, but that will probably be a clumsy approach. Hmmm, need to think this through.

Here's what I did. If its 5 or less it's fine. If it goes to 6+ I GM'd it into two separate groups, if people want to play with more than 50-100 power level. Teams can be done! Streets of death is fun for that!

The biggest problems I encounter with urban conquest is the absurd amount of terrain you need.

I did a campaign with teams (Chaos, Imperium and Xenos), it wasn't unweildy, just have the teams make the choices during the Strategic Phase. As for games they can team up if they wish. I'd suggest at least 6 turns and if your group is pretty active (ie gaming at least once a week) you should do fine.
