Looks like their are some changes to Primaris weaponry

It will be interesting to see what this entails. IMHO it would be silly if we didn't get to use the new chaplain litanies and librarian psychic powers.

So with the new Stalker Bolter, how will you guys use them versus the stalker pattern bolter our vets have? Better to have more shots or having those 2 dmg shots? Imperial fist and Crimson fists will have the chance to roll additional hits on 6's...

 

We still have a pretty decent shooting platform by taking an aggressor and/or inceptor with it.

Comes down to whether you need heavy weapons to be in the same squad I suppose. The more hits is better but you are on a platform that has an extra wound. If you want just Bolters then it may be time to swap them out. I still want some missiles in my squad so I wont be changing but the day I do is getting closer.

I just saw a review video and it is 24" Assault 3 S4 AP0 DMG1.

 

It definitely does add some choice now. Although I am more interested in when Primaris replaces the old guard.

Eh between that and the buff to 3 wounds and 1 extra attack on the aggressors it could be possible for them to see use.  A squad of 4 Aggressors 1 assault bolter Inceptor and 5 auto bolt rifles clocks in around 288 points.  Brings 25 wounds that would count as t5, and you could just kill off the cheaper intercessors, in addition to a moving average of 53 boltgun shots (15 of those can use SIA), and 6 s5 ap-1 shots, that can move + advance and shoot at full bs and fall back and shoot.  Also with shock assault a cool, 18 s4 melee attacks, and 16 powerfist attacks.  Thats nothing to sneeze at though the squad would certainly be a bullet magnet.  Assuming you didn't have to move to shoot those shots become monstrous.... bringing 91 s4 shots, with 15 of those again being able to use SIA and 6 more s5 ap -1 shots.  Thats alotta Dakka, and fighting that in melee with 16 power fist attacks isn't exactly an enjoyable though, never mind it being t5 25 wounds....

I’ve been thinking the same squad. Additionally your srgt can take a power fist for 20 PF attacks. The new intercesor srgt profile also includes the option to take a thunder hammer. If DW get this you can take that instead. Light vehicles and infantry beware!

While primaris stalker looks more usable now, it's still S4 weapon kneecapped by SIA limits. I feel DW stalker is still much better, unless you face FNP or W2 infantry. It all depends on DW getting character sniping stratagem or not, though.

In DW? Not for the next 2-3 editions. DW vet line is by far too new and shiny for that.

Thunder hammer went up a lot, though, from what I hear. It might be time to go back to old humble fists to apologize :whistling:

I thought I'd share my napkin math trying to figure out what circumstances the auto comes out ahead.

 

Also to add, when talking strictly about bolt rifles outside of rapid fire range, it is always better to trigger bolter discipline with regular ammo than taking the 1 shot *except* against T5-7 (non vehicles), where it is better to take the one shot with hellfire. If you advance with the auto, it becomes worse than the rapid firing bolt rifle, but if you take an aggressor in your auto kill team, you'll negate the penalty.

So it really just comes down to range/kill team composition. Auto squads with aggressors are much more mobile and, being able to advance, cuts down on the 6" range bonus of the bolt rifles anyway.

I think bolt rifles still have a home in kill teams with hellblasters. The rapid fire plasma is your best bet, so they won't be a part of your auto/aggressor kill teams anyway.

The aforementioned SIA - use the Hellfire round to wound anything but Vehicle and Titanic units on a 2+. Edited by Lemondish

Bingo.

 

With that profile there is pretty much zero reason to ever use any other ammo type for Stalker bolt rifles.

 

And if the loophole the Blood Angels players stumbled on is indeed valid, we can also use the Target Sighted Strategem if we have at least one detachment of a Chapter that gets it.

You won't be able to. It says Intercessor squad in the stratagem. C:SM has Intercessor Squads. Deathwatch has "Intercessors."

 

Funnily enough, it might be the same thing as far as GW is concerned. SW update targets 'Reivers' when they only have 'Reiver squads'. So, who knows what is RAI.
