Imperial Fists 2k - starting in the heresy

So jeah a few guys from a local Club are thinking about getting started in the heresy. Being a stalwart templar there Was no question who would lead my army. If I played 30k I'd want a legion contemptor and of I played fists I wanted tanks and boltguns. So with some (read: a lot) help I came up with this hypothetical list:

++ Crusade (Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Army List) [2,000pts] ++

+ HQ +

Sigismund [230pts]

+ Elites +

Contemptor Dreadnought Talon [210pts]

. Contemptor Dreadnought, Legion: Extra Armour, Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon, Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon

+ Troops +

Templar Brethren , Compulsory [600pts]: 8x Combat Shield, Nuncio-vox, 8x Templar Brethren

. Chapter Champion: Combat Shield

. Land Raider Phobos: Armoured Ceramite, Auxiliary Drive, Dozer Blade, Heavy Bolter, 2x Twin-linked Lascannon Sponsons

Veteran Tactical Squad, Legion , Compulsory [290pts]: 9x Bolt Pistol, 7x Bolter, 8x Chainsword, Heavy Bolter and Suspensor Web, Heavy Bolter and Suspensor Web, Melta Bombs, Nuncio-vox, Power Axe, 9x Veteran Space Marines, Legion

. Rhino Armoured Carrier, Legion

. Veteran Sergeant, Legion: Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Power Axe

Veteran Tactical Squad, Legion , Compulsory [290pts]: 9x Bolt Pistol, 7x Bolter, 8x Chainsword, Heavy Bolter and Suspensor Web, Heavy Bolter and Suspensor Web, Melta Bombs, Nuncio-vox, Power Axe, 9x Veteran Space Marines, Legion

. Rhino Armoured Carrier, Legion

. Veteran Sergeant, Legion: Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Power Axe

+ Heavy Support +

Sicaran Venator Tank Destroyer [190pts]

Sicaran Venator Tank Destroyer [190pts]

+ Allegiance +

Legion and Allegiance: VII: Imperial Fists, Loyalist

Rite of War: Pride of the Legion

+ Use Playtest Rules +

Use Playtest Rules: Playtest Rules Off

++ Total: [2,000pts] ++

For larger points I'd want Dorn and/or a super heavy at some point. Also 5 terminators with shields and chain fists and one assault cannon and a teleport Homer are the same price as the 10 veterans. Could se myself adding a squad or two of thosd when it gets to 3k or more.

Make that Contemptor a Contemptor Mortis and save a chunk of points.

Drop one or two Templar Brethren and get Combat Shields for the entire squad. They're fearless anyway in the company of Sigismund. Get an Apothecary for that unit.

What veteran tactics will your Vets be utilizing ? I know it's tempting to go all Bolter-y on your Fists, but I'd rather specialise them some more.

Venator is a nice piece of kit, but also quite costly. I'd potentially swap one of them for a cheaper tank, so you can afford some upgrades on both of them.

All in all a very 'Fisty' list though, which I like.

Downsides:  Only three scoring units. And when both Vet Squads die you'll be bleeding 2 VPs on top of that.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I wanted something shooty with big guns and a smidgen of melee as I just love Sigismund.

I already gave all of the templars combat shields or am I confuaing 30k terms? , so they would survive some melee.

If I drop one of them and go for the cheap er mortis Variante I should be able to fit the apothecary in pointswise no problem.

The what kind of cheaper tank would you replace one of the Sicarans with? I feel at a 190pts each they are already quite cheap and I'd have enemy AT rather focussing on them than on the landraider with Sigismund and his Posse in.

I could of course replace one Veteran squad by two normal tacticals and "loose" two heavy bolters by doing that. Would leave ne with 90 pts to spare for Upgrades on tabks. But gain two backfield objective holders.

I was going to give them machine killers for that extra ap to the heavy bolters and kill meqs reliably.

I just realiued that I left the nuncio vox on every unit but dont have any indirekt fire anymore, so maybe I should remove those and invest some more points into the Sicarans they come Stock with extra armour in battlescribe, but I'd only need 40 points to give bothe of them armoured ceramite.

Not sure about dozer blades and/or auxiliary drive when I dont really want them driving around a lot.

With the Option to turn one of the Veteran squads into more bodies in the form of tacticals.

I understand that I may step on the "fluffy-toes" suggesting to switch out the heavy bolters and meltabombs in the vet squads to pintle mounted multimeltas on the rhinos and equip the sergeants with artificier armour and power fist instead. But I suspect you will get more mileage out of those vet squads that way. Most likely your rhinos will not survive turn 2-3 (Rhinos are easy kills with priority since their content secure objectives) and you will move them out out of your deployment zone to grab objectives turn one and come closer to enemy units and threat their vehicles with multimeltas than with the meltabombs that will be useful only after disembarkation. Once your rhinos are dead and/or your vet squads havfe disembarked your sergeant will have the chance to tank small arms fire with artificier armour, and the power fist will give versatility to threat dreadnoughts and heavier infantry.

Good idea to make the contemptor a mortis one, that will give you some anti-air if you don't move it.

The question is wether the list lacking in at.

I would have thought that with 2 venators and 4 lascannons on the lr it should be pretty good to go ob that front.

The hb are meant to be cool cause fists of course, but also pull double duty vs heavier infantry as well as lighter vehicles.

As I havent played heresy yet: should I go for more scoring units? If so I could trade the veterans for tacticals. How many scoring units are a good Idea?

Also what would be a viable at Alternative to one of the venators? A predator?

The idea for the army is defense of the solar system, battle of pluto, for which I'll do bases with Tiles in black and red on them and dark brown earth as a contrast to the rather bright models. Maybe I'll add some green tufts to fit with the marines green eyes and use the same brown washes on the base and the models. I like that setting for this force because there were lots of veterans there and sigismund as well as dorn.

For 3k I'll add rogal dorn and fill the terminators up to ten and send them on their way with their primarch. Add some melta bombs to the putflanking veterans and thats 500 pts pretty quickly. Alternatively I could go for another squad of 10 tacticals or a tactical support squad or something like that and believe that 8 terminators, a primarch and an apothecary are a mean enough deathstar as is.

For 4k I am thinking about a lascannon equipped deredeo, a falchion (because yes superheavies) and then some more infantry for a few points. Or replace the deredeo with a leviathan, but the deredeo should do mean things to flyers, which I want some more of, mortis contemptor and him should be a pretty mean tag team.
