I've been messing around with the leaks we've had from the new book and have put this 2k list together.

Ultramarines Battalion, 1650 points:

HQ:

-Primaris Chief Librarian Tigurius

-Primaris Chaplain, Extra Warlord Trait (Codex Discipline), Relic Crozius

Troops:

-10 Intercessors, Bolt Rifles, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, Sgt with Power Sword

-10 Intercessors, Bolt Rifles, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, Sgt with Power Sword

-5 Intercessors, Bolt Rifles

Elites:

-5 Aggressors, Flamestorm Gauntlets

-Redemptor Dreadnought, Heavy Onslaught Gatling Cannon, Onslaught Gatling Cannon, Storm Bolters, Icarus Missile Pod

Heavy Support:

-Repulsor Executioner, Heave Laser Destroyer, Heavy Onslaught Gatling Cannon, Ironhail Heavy Stubber, Icarus Rocket Pod

Dedicated Transport

-Repulsor, Twin Lascannon, Las Talon, Onslaught Gatling Cannon, Ironhail Heavy, Stubber, Storm Bolters, Icarus Rocket Pod

Ultramarines Super Heavy Auxiliary Detachment, 350 points:

Lord of War:

-Roboute Guilliman, Warlord, Nobility made manifest

This is not a static gun-line but an aggressive force designed to move forward whilst firing at maximum efficiency. The Dread and the Aggressors represent a close combat/fire support element alongside the Primarch.

Here are some pics from my last game using the old codex:

And here are my Aggressors that will be a big element in the above list (Pic taken from around last Xmas lol):

Lovely looking army.

That spreadsheet document has some errors on it (the Librarian went down in points not up!) so take it with a pinch of salt of course.

It's a reasonable list. I presume the idea is semi-competitive, casual with an edge?

I think you'll do okay against most opponents. Against vehicles heavy it might be a slog since you've only got 2 units that have dedicated anti tank at range.

However, getting in close will help your army a bunch and the amount of shots should be hard to wear for most opponents.

At 1650pts maybe Guilliman isn't the best choice in this list? He will help those Repulsors of course but let's not forget he is so expensive!

I'd like to see how you go with the list. Get a battle report up!

Sorry the whole army is 2k,Guilliman is the final 350 points

I told you - the Astartes become low model count and perhaps too elite with him in the list. After some trials I might swap him out for Calgar and bring in an extra Repulsor or a bunch more infantry!

@Prot

I love the Reivers. I was actually using two squads in most of my lists prior to the new codex. The big change now is the new stratagems that benefit larger squads of Intercessors - hence two full 10 man squads. It's making it harder to find the space for Reivers... Again, if I drop Guilliman and the Chaplain I'll have a significant amount of extra points to re-enforce the infantry.

Do you intend to try out Incursors or the warsuit?

@Lemondish

I like the Incursors - namely as being cheaper infantry that can deploy all over the place, and I think their modifier ignoring guns are a good way to deal with popular units like Plague-bearers. Thumbs up from me, I just need to paint a bunch lol

I don't know about the Warsuit. I need to get my hands on the book and see if there are any specific abilities that make it work in interesting ways? I think it's reasonably priced. If I was playing White Scars I would definitely be using it as you can almost guarantee a turn 1 charge (Deploy Warsuit close to enemy if going first, bring in Libby in Pod, cast power to add +2 inches to charge).

I had a brief look at the codex today, and the supplements. Very nice upgrade over the one for sure.

I don't think you will get a Repulsor and Calgar for Guilliman but I appreciate the sentiment.

No of course not, but it allows enough extra points to re-jig the list. Dropping the Redemptor could free up the necessary points, or instead adding two squads of Las Fusil Eliminators to greatly increase the anti-tank output of the list.

Wouldn't even need Libby in Pod - looks like you can swap Obscuration for the Chapter specific option, so Vanguard Librarian would be perfect.

Looking through the spells for Ultramarines I'm not seeing any cool combos jump out for the Warsuit unfortunately :(

Yeah, I didn't even think about the excellent Vanguard Librarian.

I think the Ultras are going to be a flexible, solid army but I'm already seeing some more interesting combos in the White Scars book.

Great looking army Ishagu.

The list feels very elite and heavily focussed on the repulsor with agressors.

Are you making a theme from primaris marines or will you mix and match with regular marines?

I was just going for a high tech Primaris focused list.

I still have a large force of the classic Astartes. If I was building a more competitive list sticking to the confines of the Ultras I'll definitely be including some. They fill a few roles such as cheaper anti tank fire.

I'm looking forward to the FAQ making all FW units function properly with the new Astartes rules.

Hmmm probably Precognition, Scrier's Gaze and Psychic Shackles.

I think that sniping might become more popular as people really like the Eliminators - probably a good idea to have some additional defence.

Yeah anything that isn't a Boyz mob should be a ripe target thanks to mediocre Ld.

What's the Ld of their average vehicle?

On that basis, sniping even Marine characters is possible. Astra Millitarum have plenty of characters that are quite low in Ld. Bullgryns have what Ld?

Anyway I think we get the point.

Since powers are picked on a game by game basis, I wouldn't lean too heavily on one thing or another. I believe the change to Null Zone (for example) makes it much more tempting to use in critical situations, plus Tiggy is a bit more survivable now.

So here is a list I just made without Guilliman. I think it's more powerful and dynamic, with better board control and utility.

Ultramarines Battalion + Vanguard Detachment, 11CP, 2000 points:

HQ:

-Techmarine, Power Axe, Primarch's Wrath

-Primaris Calgar

-Primaris Lieutenant, Burning Blade

Troops:

-10 Intercessors, Bolt Rifles, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, Sgt with Power Fist

-10 Intercessors, Bolt Rifles, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, Sgt with Power Fist

-5 Intercessors, Bolt Rifles, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher, Sgt with Power Fist

Elites:

-5 Aggressors, Flamestorm Gauntlets

-5 Reivers, Grav Chutes, Bolt Carbines, Sgt with Carbine and Knife

-5 Reivers, Grav Chutes, Bolt Carbines, Sgt with Carbine and Knife

Heavy Support:

-Repulsor Executioner, Heave Laser Destroyer, Heavy Onslaught Gatling Cannon, Ironhail Heavy Stubber, Icarus Rocket Pod

-Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought, Two Twin Lascannons, Cyclone Missile Launcher

Dedicated Transport

-Repulsor, Twin Lascannon, Las Talon, Onslaught Gatling Cannon, Ironhail Heavy, Stubber, Storm Bolters, Icarus Rocket Pod

So this list has lots more bodies, lots more firepower.

I think people will realise pretty quickly that you give up too much to add Guilliman in terms of the army. You can make a 77 point Chaplain deal almost the exact same damage with relics, litanies and a strat.

*Edit* List has been altered

That looks like a fun list to try. I don't know anyone that thinks Guilliman is a must have now though. I think his own firesword tricks are done now that he can't re roll all to wound. He's going to be a tank now for wounds, and getting back up.

I'm pulling out a repulsor for a landraider and trying Grav Cents (changing from my las/grav cents) for a game tonight. Looking forward to it.
