How has the new codex performed for you?

Hi all. I'm new in this forum, but I have been reading this page for quite some time.

I started a crusade like two years ago, after trying several list, I focused on make one with almost all units assault based..and works much better.

Now with the options of the new codex, my win ratio grow exponentially, so im quite excited about the future rules of the Templar guys.

Chaplains are a must in my crusade, and I play with 3 of them and trying to fit a 4th on nearest future.

Company vets and vanguard are a unstoppable tide and a pain in the ass for my rivals (meteor assault in a 10 men unit is glorious). Also, my 10 terminators SS/TH with their stratagem to remove the -1 handicap of THs and the grumpy grimaldus near is something great to see.

I hope find some time to post my crusade and include pictures. Regards!

So I have a game coming up friday and I will be running grimaldus as well as a jump pack Chaplain. The latter one will get the charge Litany for my company Veterans droppoding in.

Grimaldus will be in a rhino with 9 crusaders. I am thinking the +1 to wound in melee litany will be what I go for here or rerolling misses.

I assume I wont be able to activate the rerolling litany while he is in the rhino?

Heres the list I am planning to use, yes I will consolidate three elites and an lt into a vanguard detachment, but battlescribe craps out on me doing that right now. Alternatively I could give the lt a burning blade and Imperiums sword, to give the crusaderblob some more punch. Or I give the Relic crozius to the jumping chaplain to make him more deadly.

I like the list.

Put both captains in the sword brethren detachment though, since Grimaldus gets no benefit from it.

As for an update on how the codex is doing for me, 10 games so far, 8 victories. I dropped down to using 2 pods now.

Oh jeah, you are right about that.

The sword/Bolter captain is supposed to babysit the squads with plasmas in them. Put him next to them or the Dreads with wisdom of the ancients.

What is your thinking on 2nd warlord and 2nd Relic. Can I activate a litany while in a Transport? The aura wont benefit Anyone, but it might be nice to have.

@Link: I'm surprised you decided to nix the Sternguard. Also, any chance I might be able to convince you into a squad of suppressors over one of the land speeders?

I really need to get on this Venerable dreadnought gun platform train already. I keep putting it off.

----------------

Here's the next list I want to try, let me know what you guys think!

Brigade-

HQ:

Captain, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, Teeth of Terra

Primaris Captain, Power Sword, Warlord, Vox Relic

Primaris Lt, Power Sword

Troops:

8x Incursor squad

6x Intercessor squad, Auto Bolters, Power fist

7x Intercessor squad, Stalker Bolters

Scouts, Heavy Bolter

Scouts

Scouts

Elite:

Cenobyte Servitors

2x Company Veterans, SS/CS

Invictor Warsuit, Big Flamer

Fast:

Bike Squad, Power Fist

Inceptors, Plasma

Suppressors

Heavy:

Devastators, Grav Cannons, Cherub

Eliminators, Sniper Rifles

Leviathan Dreadnought, Melta Lance, Melta Claw

Thunderfire Cannon

Drop Pod (Grav Cannons, company vets, and ToT captain go in here.)

The idea is that I alpha strike my opponent's anti tank firepower either with the grav devs if its a vehicle, in which case I turn the captain into a chapter master for a more reliable strike. Or in the case of anti tank infantry I use the incursors and Invictor to toast them.

Then my opponent has to make a choice, do they shoot the Leviathan dreadnought that will be in their face by turn 2? Or shoot the Invictor that's in their face right now?

Sword Bros with storm bolters get twice as many shots as sternguard, and also don't cost any CP to be effective.

I like the sternguard, but they never seem to be throwing enough dice for what I need. If I go back to using them I will drop the dreadnought and something else to put a pod of 10 of them back in. I also am liking the freedom of only needing enough room for 2 pods. I played tyranids last night, the heavy weapons shot up the big beasties while the storm bolters lit up the little guys. Having fewer shots would have been unfortunate.

Your list looks fun, but I don't have enough experience with primaris units to suggest any changes. Be sure to post your results with it so we can tweak it!

I have looked at suppressors, I just don't own any yet.

Did anyone run assault terminators with the new codex? And terminator characters as well?

Built a list for it: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358394-2000-points-marshals-houshold-for-fun/

Haven't tried it yet.

Also I can't seem to find supressors on the webstore, are they part of another kit?

I did. In my list always use a unit of 10 or 2 of 5. In a word: destroyers. Combine it with a chaplain with the letany of +2 to charge and +3 to pile, also grimaldus or some one to re-rolls and you get a unstoppable unit and a big problem to the enemy. Last game I declared a charge with them to a unit of 6 centurions and a repulsor positioned behind those big guys. Overwatch denied with suppressors, charge successfully, grimaldus charge too to gave that extra attack on 6s. All centurions smashed, consolidate to the repulsor and use honour the chapter to combat again, repulsor smashed. For me, terminators are a must have. And don't forget that stratagem to give them +1 and deny the hammer handicap.

About terminators characters, I was used to chaplains, but now I find more usefully chaplains with jumppad, to recite letany in first round and move to support troops.

Remember that unless you are using LC's on your TDA, they will only benefit from Grimaldus' Unmatched Zeal if you pop the Fury of the First, because the wording is on a 6+, not an unmodified 6.

I know, that's why I use fury of the first on termis and exhortation of rage on grimaldus

If you have Grimaldus's Aura, use Fury of the First, and chant the 6+ generating another attack litany, would they stack? The grimaldus aura and the litany for 2 extra attacks on a six to hit with fury of the first?

Correct!

In fact, with fury of the first active (or any other aura +1) you get 2 attacks with 6s and one with 5s..;)
