The unkind snip

I decided to start a thread on my on Successor that I've been developing, the Charnel Consuls AKA The Unkind. I was inspired by Paul Nortons Iron Ravens. Originally they were to be my own DIY but as Death Watch. Suddenly the new marine 'dex dropped and alongside it I saw the IR's; so vanilla they became. It is a work in progress from fluff to models.

A History of Unkindness
The Charnel Consuls are a Primaris chapter founded during the Ultima Founding. Like their ancestors, the Raven Guard, they excel in ambush and shock tactics. They favor high mobility mounted hit and run tactics using Impulsors and are experts in urban warfare.

They wear black and gold armor with company colors on the left knee pad. Their symbol is a black raven on a field of gold.

Chapter Beliefs
The Charnel Consuls hold a deep reverence for the dead, even for those they slay. They believe that death is the darkness cast by the Emperors Light and that in communing with the dead they receive guidance from their fallen brothers, friends, and enemies. To this end they collect the skulls of the dead, friend or foe, and gild them in gold to don upon their armor.

Notable Charnel Consuls
  • Chapter Master [ERROR]
  • Captain [ERROR]
  • High Chaplain [ERROR]
  • Lieutenant [ERROR]
  • Chief Librarian [ERROR]
  • Chief Apothecary [ERROR]

Thanks all.

I've been playing RG since 5e and have an entire 30k army of them. I always loved their feel and lore, they really resonate with me. I also have 3.5k or so of Raptors, mostly Vanguard, some Carcharodons, and plans for Black Guard once the Gravis wave hits. I always wanted to do my own chapter but couldn't piece it together until now.

The scheme is still developing fully. This my way of pressuring myself to commit to the project.

Great concept. The model is well-painted.

The believe that death is the darkness cast by the Emperors Light

Emphasis mine. Shouldn't it be "The believe that death is the shadow cast by the Emperors Light"?

Probably. Words are hard.

To be honest I almost did Mortifactors. I just love the GW skull kit. If the Iron Ravens article didnt exist I would have done them. They're the one UM successor I like.

Buddy of mine was going to do Mortifactors with Punisher skulls instead. I acquired all the stuff in a lot I bought from him. Might do a Kill Team of them.

The SGT is well-posed and painted. Can't help but think something belongs in his left hand, though. As you chose not to put a bolt pistol there, how about a severed head, plus bloodstains on that combat knife and both hands, to show him in the process of collecting trophies?

The CAPT looks promising. The skull hanging from his belt is a good touch. Will it be bronzed, or bare but for bloodstains (a fresh kill)?

Suggested Chapter planet: Crematoria, based on a planet in The Chronicles of Riddick. From the Riddick Wiki:

Crematoria is a harsh planet with 52 hour days, the surface of the planet is not habitable, as the temperatures are in the wild extremes; One would be incinerated if in the sunlight, or frozen solid at night. This makes it almost impossible to escape from, as there is only a buffer of about 20 minutes where travel on the surface is possible. The temperature when Toombs brought Richard B. Riddick to Crematoria were: -295ºF (-182ºC) on night side and +702ºF (372ºC) on day side. Crematoria rotates 5000 mph.

If that isn't bad enough, hellhounds stalk the underground caverns that are among Crematoria's few habitable areas:

Hellhounds are genetically engineered animals, Lupine/Reptilia hybrids, bred for speed and strength in "The Pit" on Kantor Boralis...

When enraged or attacking prey, the colors of their scales change from black to an orange/red. The eyes of the Hellhounds have properties very similar to Riddick's.

Doesn't this sound like a perfect crucible with which to forge youths worthy of induction into a Space Marine Chapter? Edited by Bjorn Firewalker

I love that Intercessor squad. I don’t know if it’s the lighting or their true colors, but they look a metallic orange and wrought iron black. Reminds me of a tiger scheme :)

Retributor is an orange gold now I think about it. I think its accentuated by the warm lighting. I like it.

I was considering a death world for the chapter. Something rich in material. I've been playing a lot of No Mans Sky recently. The Riddick world is pretty cool and I liked that series.

Maybe a combination of a death world, small graveworld, and a paradise moon. The deathworld has a lot of raw material and was ruled by Age of Darkness nobles that lay to rest on a graveworld in the system. Perfect for the chapter to liberate and establish roots.

Graveworld is haunted, obviously.
