BT Warlord Traits

It seems that when it comes to assault warlords (which our Marshals and Chaplains are most certainly are), the most popular choice of warlord trait is The Imperiums Sword for ovoiuos reasons, but, granted that we already have half of this triat as Chapter Tactics. is the other half worth taking this trait over others? As far as I see, other options are Sword Brether traits and Chapion of Humanity... And i'm not quite sold on CoH one

There aren't that many good warlord traits for SM, maybe that will change in a supplement, so if you are making a beat stick then Imperium's Sword and Master Swordsman are your best choices in my opinion +1S/A is pretty good you can get another +1S from Helbrecht and with something like a power fist or thunderhammer those +2S suddenly become +4 and you are at S12. 

 

As for overall best Warlord Traits I think the Vanguard traits are very useful, maybe not for a beat stick but for a force multiplier and it can be really useful for Jump Infantry or Deep Striking elements, +1" to movement and charges coupled with our Chapter Tactic means you need to be really unlucky to fail that charge and +1 To Hit can also be good for a Devastator squad in a Drop Pod and you can get another +1 To Hit with a Chaplain and then there's Lord of Deceit which means you can essentially counter deploy.

Wait, I thought that Stratagem Master offers to hit re-rool as well, I read that wrong?

How I saw this - named MAster have base CM statline, reroll all buf and some assitional power like HElbrechts +1S. Stratagem gives one the aura effet (not even the extra wound). So it's all wrong then?

I took Champion of Humanity on a power fist and plasma pistol primaris captain for a 3 game tournament on saturday and its well worth it, with a proper thunder hammer captain probably even more so.

 

Against regular tanks it does nothing but against Hive Tyrants or character knights its like being a world eater, a space wolf and a blood angel all at once.

Currently Helbrecht doesn't have the updated Chapter Master rule, he rerolls failed hit rolls, as of the update PDF.

 

Presumably this will change once BT come in (which one would assume would be in the Imperial Fists supplement).

 

So, currently, Helbrecht has a worse Chapter Master rule than a Chapter Master Stratagem Chapter Master does, but then he also does pay CP for it.

Worth doesn't equal neccessary. It's one thing if Helbrecht is one of the optins with his pros and cons and the other if e's the only viable warlord in competitive play.

So far I see the former opinion - he has his uses, but inferior Chapter Master rule (inferior how?) so getting a captain is an option as well

Its a subtle difference in wording.

 

Helbrect lets anything within 6 inches re-roll misses

Chapter masters let them re-roll hits.

 

A miss is whenever you roll below your characteristic on an attack, without modifiers, so if you swing a thunderhammer and roll a 3, its not technically a miss even though the -1 penalty to thunder hammers would prevent the attack from connecting. This is because re-rolls happen before modifiers in 8th edition.

 

On the other hand "Re-roll hits" just means you can re-roll any attack dice you don't like, so it is way more powerful since as it lets you get around this order of operations a bit. To use the thunder hammer example, you roll a 3 which isn't technically a miss but you know that once modifiers are applied it WILL be a miss, so you reroll it anyway, getting a 4.

 

In this example because the chapter master can reroll attacks that "hit" he is much better at mitigating negative modifiers.

Helbrecht is still great IMO.  The +1S is awesome and the failed vs all re-rolls only matters on PF and TH. However, if you take Helbrecht as your Warlord he will likely be locked into Oathkeeper, though he currently is not due to the PDF.  I say that it is likely that he will be locked into it because the UM and WS characters are via their supplements. 

 

 

TBH its still worth taking Helbrect though, especially if you are using pods.

Watching an enemy assault fall apart because they were counter charged by str 5 devestators never gets old.

Right now I am taking grav cannons in some units and multi meltas in others. I had a lot of success with plasma cannons too, but I am trying out other things at the moment.

 

All the sarges are combi-plasma+power sword because 3 str 5 re-rolling power sword attacks due to shock assault is no joke, especially when the enemy was expecting an easy kill.

Just so you know, the new codex nerfed all of the Vanguard warlord traits to affecting PHOBOS units only
