Are Assassins obsolete now?

So now that we know that if you take assassins either in a detachment or using the strat, the you can't get combat doctrines, does that make taking assassins completely obsolete? Or are their situations when an assassin/s are preferable to the combat doctrine bonuses?

 

I bought assassin models a while back and haven't taken them out of the packaging. If they're not worth it I might as well sell and buy something that it!!

It might depend. For instance, against an army like Salamanders, AP-1 is useless anyway, so the doctrines have less value. Was it the Culexus by any chance? Edited September 9, 2019 by Brother Adelard

Yep, I picked up a cullexus and an eversor as they seemed to fit with Templars theme the best!

They are still useful, Having 4 assassins in a list for instance might be more useful than -1 AP. If you aren't using combat doctrines you are probably getting some extra CP too by bringing allied formations.

Its just another trade-off you have to consider.

For me personally its a no-brainer to collect assassins as I have a lot of imperial armies. I am thinking about running Imperial Guard with a Vanguard detachment of Templar for melee support. Yeah they won't get combat doctrines, but with the other stuff in the list I may not need them.
