Heresy plastic rhino doors

I went to order a set of rhino doors for my storm eagle and noticed that they dont show up on the website. I also checked thousand sons and they are gone as well. Did fw do away with the standard rhino doors for horus heresy?

The Deimos pattern are all still there, but they did away with some of the Mars pattern rhino doors a while ago.

Some are still here, some are gone.

Too bad if those players also want to use fancy doors on their MkIIB Land Raiders or the afore-mentioned Storm Eagles though. It's within the realms of the possible that FW are moving towards some kind of general (plastic?) upgrade kits for each Legion, thus the removal of torsos, brass etch, icons and a load of vehicle doors, but it's been so long since they started taking stuff away with no replacements in sight that I just don't hold a lot of hope for that any more.

i would not count on that.

there are several reasons discussed for discontinued products and of course there is never only one reason, but always a set of conditions that lead to the removal of an item: 30k is in a clear decline after 8th edition and lots of new plastic models by GW, 30k is expensive and sells slowly, shelf space is expensive, molds for resin wear out over time.

Take Mk II for example. Many people love the design (including me), but were not willing to buy a whole army of Mk II for monetary reasons once BaC and/or BoP were out. So while FW was able to sell more tanks and flyers and special units, Mk II and the extra bits sold badly I assume and so did the bits. for design reasons (sharp edges, overlapping armor plates, small studs and lines on the shoulder pad trim) the molds wear out earlier than for other designs (same is true for EC Palatines). At some point FW probably send out two sets of M II assault marine packages for each order, because many came out of the mold with bad details and they send a replacement. Hell, some 'ebay-sellers from russia' sold stuff that was in a better state.

Hence we have reason to assume that for many smaller items like the doors it just was not worth it to replace molds/safe shelf space, especially as there also were alternative products like the transfers and the brass.

But, BUT, I'd love to have full plastic heresy. i just won't believe it till i see it...

Oh, hi FW, where's that EC transfers sheet?

It's surprisingly easy to etch your own brass, if you are up for a bit of learning curve and have a free afternoon. I haven't done it for models yet, but I've done other things. Doesn't take long, and you can etch anything 2d very easily, with a little practice.
