Mixing SM arms on Primaris bodies?

The arms from older kits are considerably shorter, so would likely look a bit odd proportionally. In addition, the Tacticus (i.e. Intercessor/Hellblaster) arms have a bulkier forearm owing to an additional plate. Phobos armour lacks that plate, but the upper and lower arms are still longer than the older kits.

However, the hands are very comparable, so for close combat poses, I'd suggest picking up from Reiver arms second-hand and swapping the hands at the wrists.

Ruleswise you can only really add chainswords, power swords, power fists or thunderhammers to an intercessor sergeant, if that's any concern to you.

Modelwise, I'd say only consider using mk7 arms, as they are the most visually similiar, having the same style of elbow. Some say old marine arms are a bit too short, and there is some noticeable difference on the wrists, a problem avoided if you use powerfists as they hide the normal wrist details and are longer by default. This should also apply to lighting claws if you're aiming to use those.

If the model is meant to have a "alternate" or "modified" look, other armor marks' arms could work, if you want to avoid risking it looking too short then stick to powerfists and lightning claws.

Classic marine arms on Primaris models actually look better proportionally than the primaris arms.

Pics or I don't believe you

He means they are closer in scale to the real human body in perspective. A primaris arms dangle below the natural point human arms dangle on a real body. Its common across all GW models. I will point out people react extremely negatively to realistically proportioned GW models. On IG people make shadey comments about it when people try and make artscale weapons and arms.

I've used the Power Fist from the MKIV kit (unedited) on Primaris Sergeants and it looks absolutely fine, but as noted above, Power Fists are a slight anomaly in that they are longer than most other marine arms.

I reckon arms from Deathwatch Marines would probably work, as I always felt they were a bit too long when used on normal MK7 Marines,

It depends on WHEN the non-Primaris kit was made. If it's from around the same time as the Deathwatch Kill Team, yes, there's no issue.

Indeed, Deathwatch Marine arms fit on Primaris bodies without any issues. See my response to SickSix

Heavy Thunder Hammer (now ironically good for a normal Thunder hammer for Primaris Intercessors ):

having looked at the bits in hand, they look the same proportions.  most of the changes from old marines to primaris was in the torso and legs.  pauldrons and heads stayed the same, and most arms appear to be the same, tho the old marine bolters and such look small.

i have already put several arms from the BT upgrade sprue onto interessors, and i've converted a primaris emperor's champion using the current resin EC arms and head, with the Dark angel primaris lieutenant body/legs, and a set of mk3 pauldrons from the mk3 plastic marines.

I've had no issue with my DW arms on MkX bodies.

Not only new DW pieces, but lots of older kitbash pieces too - power swords, Sternguard pieces, Dark Angels veterans and so forth.

It does make it doubly a nuisance that Deathwatch Killteams are segregated, and all the cool kitbashes end up count-as-ing in somewhat unsatisfactory ways.

old marine arms are hit and miss. I would stick with open arms that extend out rather than anything going in. 2 handed arms are iffy and require spacing somewhere due to larger chest. honestly primaris do have extended arms that you can just replace the hands as well as cutting at the bottom of the shoulder were the pad meets. elbow and hand joints where you can cut and turn. currently going through this now. trying to throw knives in the mix cause I don't want all holding bolt rifles.
