The Bolter & Chainsword was created in April of 1999. At that time, during the 3rd edition of Warhammer 40,000, players of the various Space Marine factions didn’t have a place to discuss their armies without getting a lot of flak.

Over time, the site’s coverage has expanded, first with the addition of Chaos Space Marines, then the Adepta Sororitas (who will be making a triumphant return to the game soon), and eventually to include all factions and games set within the Warhammer 40,000 game universe, including the eras of the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. The B&C turned 20 in April of this year, and we have some plans for some nifty stuff later this year and early next year in celebration of that milestone.

Ultimately, the B&C exists for you and because of you. Our goal way back in 1999 was to give back to the community, and in the 20 years since its creation, this community has grown and developed into one of the best on the internet for WH40K. The site’s members generate content here that people love to read, from discussions of rules, showcases of brilliantly converted and painted miniatures, tutorials, battle reports, game lore, to products such as game fiction and files that hobbyists can download for use in the hobby. There are even a variety of special projects being conducted to explore various niche ideas. And all of this supports the basic mission of the site, to help each other to better understand and enjoy the hobby.

Nothing comes without cost, though. Obviously, the time and effort that you put into the hobby and the site are invaluable. In addition, our great team of moderators work hard to enforce the rules and keep things on an even keel, volunteering their time and effort without any compensation because they love the site and want to help the community. More tangibly, our yearly costs as they currently stand are $3,000 USD for site hosting and upkeep (roughly $250 a month).

HOW CAN YOU HELP THE B&C?

THE SOFTWARE UPDATE

Many of you will recall that we raised over $6,000
during last year’s donation drive. $3,000 of that
went into our annual hosting fee and the other
$3,000 is earmarked for the software update. We
continue to (slowly) clean the database in
preparation for the software update. We have some
additions to the site planned as part of the
software update, some of which will happen
concurrent with the update and some of which will
take place later.

We are asking for your donations to help keep the site running. Over the course of a month, we have over 1,000 unique users participating at the site. If each person simply gave $3 for the year, we would easily meet our goal. If you can donate, any amount that you can donate is appreciated, however. Any time we have held a donation drive in the past, the members of our community have stepped up above and beyond.

Your donations will help ensure that we can continue to provide you with a platform for the quality content and community that you have helped to build.

You, the Brothers and Sisters of this site are why it is the community it is today. Let's keep that going for another 20 years!!!!

Normally we start our yearly donation drive in the summer with a September deadline in order to pay our entire annual fee up front in early October. We dropped the ball this year. We’re unlikely to raise the full $3,000 up front, so we’ll cover as many months as we can in October, then pay the rest once we’ve collected the full amount. Any funds raised over the $3,000 goal will go into the emergency fund and for future site maintenance.

There are several ways to donate:

gallery_2_3712_4431.png
First is to use the Donation Tracker on the right side of your screen (you will not be able to see this if you are using the mobile skin).

Second you can donate directly via PayPal to: bardreason@hotmail.com (that’s to David Johnston/Brother Argos, owner of the B&C). Note that you don’t have to have a PayPal account in order to send a payment over PayPal.

!!!IMPORTANT!!!

Some of you have noticed that the PayPal account has
changed from previous years. Previously, we used Kurgan
the Lurker's PayPal account as he honchoed this effort.
This year, though, he is extremely busy with real world
stuff that is far more important. If you have an
ongoing subscription to support the site, please change
it to the new account (bardreason@hotmail.com).

If those options do not appeal to you and you would prefer to send a check/money order you can contact @Brother Tyler and he can give you details about North American and European locations that you can mail those to.

We will endeavor to provide regular updates on funds collected.

This site is great because of you, so please help us in helping you have to a place on the internet to enjoy this great hobby.

Thank you to all.

If you have some money to spare that you are willing to donate to the B&C it is appreciated, no matter how small :smile.: As the ancient Terran warlord Tes'co said: "every little helps" :tongue.::wink: Together we can ensure the B&C continues for another year, and I'm sure I'm not the only one excited about what the update will bring :laugh.:

Guys 'n' Gals,

New or old (me). Sane or crazy (me). Loyalist (me), Xenos, Heretic (me).... I can't tell you how much we appreciate your donation of any size.

I think it's challenging in this era where you have many choices for conversation through social media, but we always want to provide this as a place to talk about any/all facets of our favourite hobby.

I have personally donated 1 Billion dollars... Canadian. Which apparently works out to 40 USD... but hey, it's what I can afford! Any amount helps keep the lights on.

Thank you.

I was away on a break away from gaming and recently came back. I thought I missed the donation drive and was sad. Even while on a break B&C is one  of my favorite internet spots and Is worthy of  receiving some cash from me to keep it running.
