A Single Unit Fix for Adeptus Mechanicus

Prot

As some of you know I've been trying to get back into my AdMech but I always hit a wall. I started really thinking about my Mars army, and what's missing.....

One thing I do know and I find this really ironic, but as time has passed since the AdMech codex release, I find it very hard for me to justify or get full use out of Wrath of Mars. I know that sounds crazy, because what the heck am I playing Mars for then, right?

I guess it's just the fluff nut in me that loves Cawl. I always use him even though I think he's probably less useful today than he's ever been with the amazing host of utilitarian characters to surround your armies with.

I feel like there needs to be something more that fits ALL of AdMech. 'Staple' units have become stale.

The Dakka Bots (imo) are probably also at an all time low. The whole way they function, and requiring a buff character or strat (which of course penalizes you with a game long lock down.,) needs revisitng.

I'm almost more a fan of punch bots, but then I realized... the actual answer to a LOT of my personal problems (that don't involve a trip to the nuerosphere!)

Just here me out here, and this came from my long time use of Ultramarines, and the new Space Marines, but I came to the conclusion that the Invictus Warsuit would be a MASSIVE help for a lot of my issues without being over the top.

And the reasons I like this idea:

1. Infiltrating unit for ANY Mars Forgeworld (This solves movement issues. This solves (some) massive board control issues. This solves some pushback on infiltration/deepstrike issues.

2. Close combat capability, on a non-degrading profile (potentially). Our CC  (generally) sucks. And it's always on a unit that does nothing else. This unit would be capable of shooting medium to  low strength in respectable quantities. WHILE retaining a CC capability beyond a paper bag.

3. Survivable (respectable). Oh to have a 13 wound, 3+ unit that doesn't hit a 4 or penalized to a 5 when moving.

4. Economic. We have SOME units that do some of this stuff, but Infiltrators are too pricey for one hit wonders.  I'd have the Modified AdMech Warsuit come in at 110-120 pts.

5. Speed. Having something deep strike/infiltrate is one thing, but having a 10" move on top of it would be very valuable.

6. Shooting (respectable). No one would claim the Warsuit is amazing at shooting, but considering the total package I would likely port over the main weapon options. IE: dual Heavy Flamer at 12" and/or a score of Stubber type weapons, and/or S7 -1 2D Autocannons.

Without creating an over the top unit, I think maybe this would help a lot, but I really feel like on paper we need this to plug a lot of holes. We don't have fly, we can't retreat and shoot, we don't have cheap chaff, and our CC is usually specialized in expensive, or at least non-survivable units.

This is the one unit I can think of that exists and would check that many boxes off.... AND also not break the rest of your army list.

Do you guys agree or disagree? If you had access to this, and it worked with repair, strats, and Canticles, would you include it? (For the record I see it has received mediocre reception as time has passed since its release for marine players. I think it would have a higher value for AdMech.)

Well with the mention today of Eldar getting the same treatment as Space Marines we should be inline at some point for the same upgrades.

I wonder if we had a plastic drill would that fit into your settings here? It has deepstrike, is quite scary close up and has some decent suitability and a few guns. Biggest draw back is it is 70+ to buy, while not over the top expensive like a knight it is still a huge investment that you may not always be able to play due to the Forgeworld bans around. If they made it GW and plastic would that work?

I'd love a drill not sure it's a fix. I'd like more crazy robots or other stuff, along with a fix of our current robots making them more dynamic. Maybe move and fire heavy weap on ns as a start with no penalty.

Some giant ogryn type servitors with high tough used to soak damage and tarpit.

Things like that would have helped me.

Your giant ogryn type Servitors are Breachers! Park them on objectives with Aquisition at any cost and you'll find out :D

I’ve got 6 and they get melted pretty quick. Maybe I need to spring for another pack. They’re usually toast before they get to do real work. I also run a couple fist bots that die first.

Still the idea of some large cyborg with better attacks and no ranged wading into the fray seemed awesome.

An enduring jack of all trades, eh?

I'd be happy to see several of these met by the Ambots.

1-3 are easy: assuming similarity to the ambull datasheets.

4 just depends on it being well priced for its capabilities.

5- speed is perhaps more challenging, but as a robot it could have 8" without people being too unhappy - the bots look like they've skipped fewer leg days than the bull.

6- a few of them would pack flamers, missiles and grav guns... I'm not convinced it'd be that useful. But as single units might be of many robots, maybe it's back to good again...

Less likely to blow over in a stiff breeze than the Infiltrators!

From what I saw in the 40k mecha units there is no fast and agile unit, think for example of something similar to an Ironman esosceletro, only bigger, let's say about ten meters. It would be useful in infiltration missions to hit pivotal targets, and then escape quickly. Also on the battlefield it would be useful as infantry and diversion, difficult to hit, and if it were armed with a warp missile it could inflict serious damage even to large units.

I run two packs of 6 using the servitor maniple, and run stygies. The combo of the -1 to hit on first turn (maybe 2nd too) and then using prepared positions/shroudsalm makes them pretty resilient for a troops choice.

I tend not to spend CP on the invun save these days cos if you can get them to a 2+, most weapons arent taking them past a 5+ save anyway, but it is useful being able to bring them back, and the +1 BS strat works a treat.

Although I get why people go in for mars (and cudos for sticking with it when youve made that decision prot), I honestly think stygies is the better choice due to the -1 to hit and pregame move options - maybe thats just the way i play though.

I only run 2 dakkabots these days and they're there more as a distraction carnifex than anything else, my breachers/neutron onagers do a lot of my heavy lifting.

Would love to see some more big robot options though.
