@stratokhan - that's right. I tried to create diamonds by using masking tape but I had bad bleed through. The stencils I used were a lot easier and gave better results.

 

@bjorn - thanks buddy. The jetbikes were relatively simple compared to freehand. Even after painting 51 players I still haven't totally nailed it!

So, its been a while since my last update. What's happened, obvs Xmas with two little ones was hectic. Especially with lockdown. I've managed to move house yey, although this did cut hobby time down quite significantly. I did, however, manage to stick to my goal of completing a full army. My harlequins are done.

Pretty pleased with how these have come out. Although free handing diamonds is a nightmare, they do look good once done.

New year new army? Well alright then. This year I plan to complete my Shadow Haunters force, 6th company Raven Guard successor, (mainly the contents of shadowspear). I also plan to start a 3rd company Imperial Fists force too. I have an airbrush station set up in my mancave to assist with this.

My plan for these is to practice faces, weathering and battle damage.

Both forces have some kitbashing and use upgrade frames.

I also plan to get the Lion painted and, if time allows, some other 30k Dark Angels goodness.

Lets see if 2021 can be as productive.

So for january i managed to get 9 Infiltrators done as well as creating an airbrush station.

A shot with the helix adept i did last year.

I'll be basing and weathering these all together with the rest of the force.

Managed to do an imperial fists test scheme too....

Next up is 10 incursers and 9 assault Intersessors

So for feb I've managed to complete 10 incursers for the Shadow Haunters and 9 assault Intersessors for the Imperial Fists 3rd company.

I've even had a go at a face.

I'm going to try and get a few more imperial fists done for the dorn event. 11 days left with that.

More fists done! Quite enjoying painting yellow. These are definitely not my best work as some have been overpainted others stripped to varying degrees of success. I also had a bit of a mare with decals on some. Still need to put down a matt coat, so they're a tad bit shiny at the moment.

So, instead of finishing more fists, i thought I'd start on the Lion. There is a sense of irony with this as I'm likely going to spend more time painting 5 night lords than i would my regular dark angels. Especially when 4 are dead.

Anyways i have minimal experience with night lords. Ive painted the trims silver but looking at the box art should they be gold? What would peoples advice be?

I have made further progress on the Lion in that the base is done, weathering powder aside. Not sure about the hot coal effect though.

More fists then I'll probably be on with his cloak.

Had a read through the last few pages and it was a joy. Really impressed with your Eldar, and the Shadow Haunters makes a grim yet striking sight. You've managed a clean yellow on the Fists, a challenge in of itself as it is often said. I notice the small bit of heraldry on the knee of the marines, will that denote something in particular? Squad markings?

Do you mean the markings on the knees of the fists? That represents the 3rd company.

The markings on the shadow haunters represent the 6th company on the left knee and combat squad designation on the right. Characters have their individual honours onnthe left knee too.

I have completed a veteran squad (or two depending on how i want to run them).

More work on the Lion will be next along with some of the same. SHs and fists.

More shadow haunters done. This time 10 reivers. Got some more work done on the Lion too. I'll show him once i have a bit more done i think.

I did a little side project this week. I entered a local geedubs comp which involved a lucky dip of 3 paints which have to be included on a mini you paint. I got dryad bark, averland sunset and Caliban green. Here is my entry, Mad Dog Mono.

Really rather enjoyed painting him. Nice little break from power armour.

It has been a while since i updated this log. I have had a pretty intense couple of months with various illnesses in the house and with work getting quite a bit busier. I'm hoping were through this now so i can get back on with hobbying.

I managed to get a palatine enforcer painted in a test scheme. Not sure if i like it as yet...

I've also managed to add to my Shadow Haunters force. Nearly finished with these (for now), just a libby, capt and eliminators to go. That will also conclude the imperial half of shadow spear. After this it will be more IFs to complete the imperial half of indomitus (apart from the bikes, they will be part of another force).

Another slow month, but i have some completions. Managed to do the chaplain and the judicar. Nearly finished the other Shadow Haunters. Hopefully they will be done in the next few days.

Managed to finish the last of my Shadow Haunters. 3 eliminators a libby and a captain. I'm going to aim to base them all this month i think.

I felt pretty good with my output so i decided to get the DKoK kill team painted up from Octarius.

I'm pretty happy with the bases. They are a home brew consisting of sawdust, sand, cork, brown paint and PVA. They've them been dry brushed 2 lighter browns and have Nuln Oil gloss wash.

Next up is a kitbashed DKoK Commissar, some objective markers and some necromunda i think. I've grown weary of power armour for this month at least!

No basing this month but I did manage to convert a DKoK commissar and Betti Banshee (House Escher bount hunter), as well as some objective markers.

I've got more House Escher gangers in the pipeline.

I used a spare gas mask and backpack from the octarius kit and a cheap commissar bought off t'interweb. I had to slice part of the head off to get to the visor part of the hat. I green stuffed around the gaps and where the pipe goes into the coat. A bit rough and ready but overall ok.

I should have positioned the head up more which is frustrating and my green stuff needs some work i think.

5 Escher gangers up for viewing. My favourite is the original metal Juve in the middle. Got to practice faces and skin tone. I think I'm getting better but the contrasts are still quite stark.

Great conversion on Betty. I prefer the colour scheme on the gangers, though, red and yellow looking ace.
