So, SoB will shine in glorious newness! What about Guard?

Do you think the Guard will have their day? When the common men and women will stand with renewed vigor in glorious new sculpts besides the Adepta Sororitas, the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Adeptus Astartes and the Talons of the Emperor?

New Guardsmen, new Heavy Weapon Teams, new Sentinels, new Rough Riders, new Wyrdvane Psykers, new Ratling squads, new Chimeras with variants, new Snipers, new aesthetics, new trenchcoat options, new gasmask options, new backpack options.

If could see Steel Legion kits happening when we inevitably get to Armageddon. I doubt we'll see anymore than an Infantry/Command/HWS, but that's all that is really needed. Yarrick seems ripe for a miniature alongside them, most likely as part of a Guard vs Ghaz box.

Creed's still out there somewhere, so he'll be popping up at some point.

I've said it before and stand by it: be careful what we wish for. The proliferation of 3rd party guard parts out there that are completely in the clear because every guard regiment (except possibly Cadians) are such generic history mashups makes it clear that if we get a revamp of guardsmen in plastic they will not be any of the historical regiments we know and love. Tanks I can see, abhumans I could maybe see (though ratlings fall prey to the same generic fantasy problem that a lot of WHFB did), but actual guardsmen will either be a brand new regiment that GW can claim full protections on or a similar wildly different visual rework of an existing regiment.

That said, I feel like with the fall of Cadia it's only a matter of time until we get a new regiment to be the POV regiment in GW fluff. Since it does only need 3 kits, I could see it coming at any lull in the production schedule.

to be honest, I couldnt care less if it is a wierd sci fi re imagining, by biggest worry is they go the way of necromunda models, with the key joint connections rather than flat connections. the sheer quanitity of the same kits you need for guard mean if it becomes difficult to convert/reposition models it will put me right off.

What the ........

That's my entire army theme man!

I think the opposite - the simplest way to upgrade guard as an army is to do 'gang boxes' for the codex supported regiments, a 'troops' box and a 'support' box. THe Necromunda sprues have 5 poses and lots of arm/head combos so are quite varied. Also lots of weapon options.

I agree that new Guard models don't feel soon, unfortunately. I've long said that it'd be so easy for GW to release an entirely new regiment - three boxes is all that's required (Command, Infantry, Heavy Weapons Squad) - so they could release an entirely new model range whenever and not necessarily as part of a new codex. Especially as the vehicle kits are solid so don't need anything. Sadly GW seems to have not realised this..? :tongue.:

The age of the Guard infantry kits is showing now, Command Squad boxes aside, hopefully we'll see the current plastic range revamped as the priority followed by the metals. I'd love to see a new regiment, but not at the expense of an existing one. It'd be fantastic if we got them in the same modular format as the current plastics so we could go wild kit bashing custom regiments, but we'll need to wait and see as always.

I would prefer not getting anything to be honest...we seriously have a beautiful range of models that don't need updating. We also have enough 3rd party support for me not to care about GW re hashing lines. I'm all for new units or something though.

Perfectly content here

Agreed. Just Catachan infantry squads are in need of some update, but the rest is beautiful enough in comparison to the newer models of GW. i feel the pain of metal range guard commanders and wish they get their regiment kits in plastic. But looking at what's happening to space marines i'd be reeeeeally careful at wanting changes, because I personally do not want to play 'Cyberpunk 41000'.

I'd like to see them take the Tempestus Scions aesthetic and use it to make a new, uniform look for the Astra Militarum, sort of a Tempestus-Lite version. I'm tired of WW2 in space, it doesn't fit the aesthetic of the Imperium anymore. Astra Militarum are just so archaeic looking that they don't belong along side the Mechanicus, the Astartes or the Sororitas. The Tempestus Scions do.

I'd be worried about the scale, GW can't seem to help themselves making everything bigger... I want my Guard dwarfed by Marines, not the size of some of the Necromunda gangs who are enormous.

I'm happy with what we have really, options to play any playstyle and mostly good looking sculpts still. Some new toys are always fun but what would we even get at this point? What's missing?

The one thing I'd like is a Special Character per regiment, much like the Primaris characters. If they came out alongside a new codex I'd be a happy Guardsman

Then you just don't get the 40000-ish flavour of the Guard. Variety is the only constant in the Guard. And it's only Valhallans that are really looking like soldiers of WWII. Catachan = 'Nam; DKoK, Tallarn, and Armageddon = WWI; Mordian = Any army in mess dress; Elysian = 70-90's spec ops; Cadian = 50-00's rank and file army; Vostroya = russian regular army of 16-18th centuries. And a regiment that is going to war in medieval armor mounted on lizards and armed with heirloom grenade launchers and power axes is not really an unusual thing in Emperium. The 'Toy boys' are specially brought up and trained spec ops soldiers, so they must be equipped with the best gear the Humanity can get for a human with one heart. The rest are getting the best equipment their homeworld can provide, which is sometimes a sharp knife, warm furs and a traditional kick in the butt.

We will probably get some sort of 'build your own regiment' rules before we get new models. Unless we get both at once, but the former is more likely imho.

Also, while they would not require extra sprues to be designed, I'd like the start collecting and defense force boxes to be updated with new models too.

Not long ago I wanted new plastic kits but less concerned now with the abundance and quality of 3rd party

Plus I have more metal Mordians that I can admit to wanting to paint

I do want this weeks rumour engine to be a plastic bomber kit for us though :D

Maybe a 2/3 sized Marauder variant :tu:

Next GW survey, I'm asking for plastic Kasrkin.

Started already on the FB page.

The longer I look at scions the more i dislike them.

Personally I cant stand them either. No personality or charm whatsoever.

Scions were a serious missed opportunity imo. I don't 100% dislike them...but I'm not the biggest fan either. They just feel so separate from IG compared to what they used to be pre scions Kaskrin/Storm Troopers were awesome.

I agree they are too round and with too much flourish in the armour.

Kasrkin had that sleek look with power packs for hotshot lasgun, with proper armour covering the legs not just the knees, and without the camping gear on the back.

GW should use scions for Inquisition stormtroopers and just make plastic kasrkin and a new cadian infantry range.

Unfortunately for me I have to like armies that are ill supported by GW.

I wouldn't be concerned about losing the Guard aesthetic with new models. SoB and the new Eldar kits have changed nothing. I sold my Cadians, the old plastic kit is stopping me from starting again. New revamped Cadian / Catachan / Steel Legion infantry squads would be fantastic. GW have the cash to do so now as well, so I wouldn't be surprised.

This is exactly what ive wanted to do with my Catachans. How did you do it and where did you get all the weapons?
