Zero Gravity Rules for 8th

Recommended Posts

I was thinking, and we don't have an easy way to do zero-gravity environments for 40k, just yet, do we? Those pack exhausts have to do SOMETHING, right? So I decided to come up with a ruleset.

1. All INFANTRY models that do not have the FLY keyword on their datasheet by default (unless they have the Void Maneuvering ability) have their movement, advance and charge rolls halved, and gain the FLY keyword.

2. All INFANTRY models that do not have the FLY keyword on their datasheet by default, if they have the keyword ADEPTUS ASTARTES (aside from SCOUT and SERVITOR models), ADEPTA SORORITAS (aside from any Dialogus, Hospitaller or Imagifier models), FALLEN, HERETIC ASTARTES (aside from models with the TZAANGOR, CHAOS CULTIST or POXWALKER keywords), ADEPTUS CUSTODES, GENESTEALER, ELYSIAN DROP TROOPS, MILITARUM TEMPESTUS or HARLEQUINS keywords gain the following ability:

Void Maneuvering: This unit does not halve their movement, nor do they halve their advance and charge rolls, in a zero-gravity scenario. At the beginning of the movement phase, any unit with this rule may choose to either float or stand. If a model chooses to stand, they use their normal movement speed and lose the FLY keyword for the remainder of the turn. If a model with this ability chooses to float, their movement speed is doubled for the remainder of the turn. Any model with the TERMINATOR or GENESTEALER keyword may not choose to float, and must always stand.

Does this sound good to anyone? Maybe Void Maneuvering is too broken? I figure it's fluffy, but I'd like to hear people's opinions.

Edit: Added in a provision to prevent models that can already fly from gaining Void Maneuvering. Jump pack units with double speed would be even scarier than I'd wanted. ^^'

What are the thoughts on the keywords which gain Void Maneuvering? Does giving it to Elysians, Tempestus and Harleys make sense?

So, the idea is they can either grav-lock to the deck/ground, or can make bounding leaps using their exhausts? And all other unit/armies gain the ability to "float" over obstacles, but at halved movement?

That's what I'm picturing from what you've got down, and it's certainly thematic. It's also a super narrative/unbalanced rule. I suppose it would mean focusing on vehicles/monsters/bikers/Fly infantry for such scenarios, which I guess makes sense to me.

My original thought was actually to combine it with Zone Mortalis and run mostly units with Void Maneuvering.

The old Forge World Imperial Armour Blood in the Void rules might provide a solid starting point. I just can't remember where they are (I'm looking).

Much appreciated! I'll try and find it myself as well.
