Hey guys.

I was thinking about adding Blightlord Terminators to my DG army, but I have been told Terminators in 8th are not that gr8 sould I add them to my list?. So I was thinking If I was to get them what guide lines sould I bare in mind when adding them to my list, Is there a optimal load out / squad size I sould be looking at.

Although Terminators in general are a bit pants in 8th edition, it is unambiguously the case that Blightlord Terminators are the best around. This is not only because of T5 and Disgustingly Resilient - although those are huge helps; instead, it's primarily because of the stratagem: Cloud of Flies. The problem with terminators is that they get shot off the board so easily, a problem with Cloud of Flied solves by ensuring that your enemy can't shoot at them (unless they're the closest unit)!

A famous ITC list even used 10 Blightlords to great effect as an untargetable shooting platform. It's fallen a bit out of favour, but unless you're playing hyper competitive, is shows that Blightlords are a strong unit, with the proper support.

With some psychic support they are pretty good. 5-10, take 3 combi bolters, blight launcher, 4 bubonic Axes and a flail, doubling them all for groups of 10. With blades of putrefaction and Votlw they get +2 to wound in the fight phase, so on wound rolls of 5+ they do a mortal wound and on 4+ they get -1AP. I like to drop them in second turn and save a command reroll for the charge. If you need to shave points drop the blight launcher(s) for another combi bolter. The flail in my opinion are the best 10pts melee weapon in the game. They're are not the best units in the DG codex but there's certainly worse.

They are solid and often in my lists. They’re slow but if you multicharge and make the most of pile in and consolidate they’re surprisingly mobile. Only got better with the extra attack, BLs with flails are insane.

Edit: I try to go with 10, 2 flails, 2 blight launchers, 6 bolters and all axes. Just convert the swords into axes.

As with all things play them if you want to.

Generally speaking they get expensive REALLY quickly. You can give them combi weapons to take on hard targets or hoards but they are probably good enough with just bolters and axes.

Flails are blenders. Definitely worth investing in.

Heavy weapons. There was some debate about reaper autocannon vs blight launcher. If you are using the Blightlords unsupported by anyone with Arch Contaminator there is a case for the Reaper but generally speaking the launcher will do the job. Sadly no one can find a use for the plague spewer

Quite honestly I still believe 100% Blightlords are the best Termies in the game. You just have to use them right, like any other tool they have a specific fit.

Yea they're slow as heck, but you plan where they go in advance, make sure they can get there by clearing a spot, and you have to put them right there, on an objective, and force your opponent to deal with them. Now with Hateful Assault it just helped them a little more.. that Flail is a must, but the specials are really up to what your list is looking like. If you go 5, I would keep them fairly plain. If you go 10 that's a major commitment and they should hang around a while and that's when you want to make sure they put a real dent in something.

I have used terminators in just about every game

They are probably the best terminators in the game, both varients.

BUT

They are still pretty medicore, or rather they can be a huge point sink and do nothing all game.

They are just so slow, that you are pretty much forced to deepstrike them at which point it comes down to can you roll a 9+

If you can then they are amazing, especially with all the buffs (-1 to hit, +2 to wound and 5+ causing mortal wounds, +1S&T)

However if you fail, they will do nothing.

I picked up two of the tainted cohort packs (ah Conquest!) and wondering if anyone has some good ideas for their conversion and/or use as blightlords or as the cohort? I'm reading no one sees the spewer as useful so I might try to convert them to launchers, I'm yet to convert a flail though but if it's the way to go I'll give it a try!

Blightlords are tough bully units and work well in ITC. They are there to land on an objective and fire combibolters at chaff all game, meaning they earn 1-2 points per turn by themselves at range while being effectively unkillable by their ideal targets (weak infantry). You place them so their charge is a bonus to the stuff they should accomplish by existing, not a requirement.
