W.I.P Ashen Lords

Idea: Moloch is a god the Chapter planet's inhabitants worship; the Ministorum ID'ed Moloch as an aspect of the Emperor when the Imperium reclaimed it on [insert date]. When your Chapter claimed the planet, the Chaplains forcibly organize the local religion, claiming the positions of High Priests, so the planet's inhabitants may not carry out sacrifices at times, places, or methods the Chapter doesn't approve of; this is to prevent the Word Bearers and Alpha Legion from ID'ing Moloch as a Chaos God, strengthening the Great Enemy or summoning Daemons on the Chapter planet.

Sacrifices consist of having the children walk through "sacred flames" (hololithic illusions or psychic glamours); those the Chapter wants as recruits and Chapter serfs, will be claimed then, as the "sacred flames" prevent those outside from seeing what happens to the children.

Got a few ideas rolling.

Chapter is sent to a system to defend it, upon arrival the sistem was burned to the ground, everyone is gone/dead.

They name the chapter Ashen Lords, due to the fact that they are now lords of the ash.

Have a few ideas on the backburner.

Need to sort out how they get recruits, supply, and the new settlement of the sistem etc.

It's a good baseline to build on here, just need to be careful and clear on how Moloch is another name for the Emperor and thus no need for our friends in the Ecclesiarchy/=][=/Adeptus Ministorum stopping by with some quiet words involving a lot of cleansing firepower. ;)

The idea of child sacrifices could definitely be an interpretation of submitting the populations' children through the sacred flames to begin their life's service to Moloch and his warriors that guard their home and the galaxy from the myriad of enemies that seek to destroy them.

The Ashen Lords is a fun idea on how their name originated, you could possibly tie in the ideas of rebirth and renewal as from ashes, new life can grow if nurtured appropriately. This could mirror the rebirth of the Imperium after the Cicatrix Maledictum tore across the galaxy and the return of Primarch Guilliman etc. It could also be a view of the Astartes themselves that when they ascend to become fully fledged members of the Ashen Lords, they have been reborn out of the ashes of their previous existence?

Any ideas of geneseed? Salamanders would be a possible choice if they are Primaris?

Moloch is just baseline for inspiration, wont actually use it as an entity on the fluff.

Child sacrifice, in this case the population "sacrificing" their sons to the Astartes.

A tunnel of fire, or a rite of passage, the first initiation to the chapter.

This will be a full primaris chapter, I was not going for salamanders, despite the name, and will use a drake as a symbol, but there is another progenitor that used the rebirth as a motive.

But nothing decided yet.

Little bit of world building.

Chapter world will be in Ghotic Sector, south of of the World Dimammar, and west of the Storm of the Emperors Wrath.

Chapter Monastery is a damaged strike cruiser landed near the sea, into a mountain side facing inland, with a city being built around it.

Due to the difficulty of reaching the planet several ships in the fleet were lost, the chapter is undermanned, and undersupplied.

Hundreds of chapter serfs were freed from their duties to repopulate the world.

Emphasis mine. Is the Ghotic Sector related to the Gothic Sector in any way?

Chapter Monastery is a damaged strike cruiser landed near the sea, into a mountain side facing inland, with a city being built around it.

I'm reminded of Macross City, built around the crashed Alien Starship-1 (later redesignated "Super Dimension Fortress-1"), from Super Dimension Fortress Macross. How long did it take to build the city? What's its current population? What fortifications does it have to counter ground, naval, air and space attacks (including orbital bombardment from enemy starships)?

Due to the difficulty of reaching the planet several ships in the fleet were lost, the chapter is undermanned, and undersupplied.

Hundreds of chapter serfs were freed from their duties to repopulate the world.

Interesting ideas. Hope the planet's human inhabitants weren't Chaos-tainted (worshiping Moloch as a Chaos God) or xeno-tainted (worshiping Moloch as an Eldar god, a Tau Ethereal, or the Tyranid Hive Mind). It will SUCK if the Chapter has to devote time, effort, and resources purging its own Chapter planet of Chaos worshipers and xeno collaborators, when these time, efforts, and resources are better spent fighting enemies offworld.

Yep typo.

Fort defenses:

Ship void shields, generators installed by the surviving admech support ships within the mountain to "buff" it.

Ship Weapons and strike craft.

1 battle barge 2 strike cruisers and several escort ships currently holding orbit over the planet. (Remaining fleet)

Extra fortifications under construction.

City was already present, just being rebuilt, current population extinct.

"Present" timeline. Efforts underway.

City was already present, just being rebuilt, current population extinct.

That means the name "Moloch" had nothing to do with the Chapter planet's original inhabitants (whoever they are), and everything to do with the Chapter fleet's ships' crews- those serfs now ordered to repopulate the planet. That means details on the Chapter's progenitor, and the culture(s) of the planet(s) the ships' crews were originally recruited/conscripted from, will be much in demand- not only by your readers, but by the Inquisition and other Space Marine Chapters, as I STRONGLY doubt these in-universe groups would tolerate a possible Word Bearers warband setting up shop there.

Maybe claim the Ashen Lords are a Blood Angels successor? Sanguinius' sons do use names similar to demons in folklore, e.g., compare "Astorath" to "Astaroth".

Moloch was just baseline inspiration for the aspirants initiation, did not intend to use it as an entity per se in the fluff.

Chapter is a Primaris one, so their culture will be a blank canvas, and since they were part of the Indomitus crusade we can assume the crew and serfs were from Terra, so they will at least be faithful in the God Emperor.

Moloch was another name for Ba'al aswell if im not wrong, but I have not decided yet on gene seed.

Some good extra building blocks there, I'm warming a lot to the idea of them originating from the Blood Angels' line. It would befit the ascension into Primaris from the ashes of their existence, thus the name possibly? Hints a lot at how the Blood Angels' recruits themselves from Baal ascended if I recall correctly.
